Absolutely ridiculous from the Tyrone CB. Makes absolutely no sense....Tyrone have a young team and talent there. Any county would want Micky there to guide them. This is a new chairwoman in Tyrone and this isn't the first time her and the committee have made decisions that simply baffles the Gaels if Tyrone. It shows no faith in Micky Harte and it wouldn't surprise me if he pulled the plug and he would be in his right too. I just can't get my head around it. I will wait to see if the CB release a statement clarifying why they have done this.....I just can't see the sense. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2089 - 07/09/2016 08:23:48 1911058 Link 0 |
I think its very surprising . Won the ulster and were unfortunate to lose to Mayo who are now finalists . He has next year to prove himself more . GameOfTyrones (Tyrone) - Posts: 469 - 07/09/2016 08:29:25 1911061 Link 0 |
Its not a big surprise, there were a few groans in certain corners of Tyrone when he got the extra two years and some say he was lucky to get that two yr extension, most expected just the one. So when he gathers the team together after defeat and says he's got all these big plans for the future then goes to the county board looking the extra year he normally wins out. But not this time, I'd say the current negative style of play does not sit well in certain quarters, and the lack of a decent free taker. Also he made some strange decisions against Mayo like keeping Sean Cavanagh on the field and him not getting a touch and on yellow card as well as continuely sending up a non confident goal keeper to miss frees wasn't good. cacsmckilly (Tyrone) - Posts: 1294 - 07/09/2016 08:29:56 1911062 Link 0 |
Hopefully he takes the news badly, storms out immediately and takes the Cavan job ;) cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5029 - 07/09/2016 08:36:08 1911068 Link 0 |
Your words are very true. He got a two year extension which was to be reviewed at the end of 2017. If he delivered the big one in 2017 I can well imagine there would be an automatic extension. I think he was trying to get earlier assurance of another extension and no county Board could do that at this stage as it sets out a precedent that could come back to haunt them a little bit further down the line with some other management set up. I don't see him running away anywhere or soon.

The time to do the talking for 2018 would be in 2017. As much as I respect what Mickey Harte has done for Tyrone, there were more questions than answers created after this season. The major flaws of the current team haven't improved since this time last year, even if they did win Ulster. If 2017 shows an improvement I would give him the time that he wants but like every other intercounty manager, it should be earned and not handed out for free. I think that MH feels that their is an all Ireland in this squad and that it might take more than the one year he has left to win it. Would you trust him over someone else to deliver it, I know I would. He would not just ask for an extension far the sake of it ffs considering age, health etc etc. Unless there is internal politics at play or some bullsh*t, its seems very strange mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1045 - 07/09/2016 09:31:48 1911090 Link 1 |
Cavanman, Border Gael & Safforndon have summed up the situation perfectly, no need for anymore discussion on it. benched (Tyrone) - Posts: 534 - 07/09/2016 09:52:32 1911102 Link 0 |
Don't let Royal Dunne hear you saying that.

Not an easy life being a manager in the GAA. Tyrone had a very good year, winning division 2 and the ulster title. The quarter final poor show against mayo kind of eclipsed these achievements. I think that Harte may have deserved another year, but in fairness, when does another year ever end? There are others waiting to jump in now and you would have to expect that this would bring out the best in the Tyrone team with new ideas. I would fear for our own set up for this very reason. The GAA's motivation is money at county board level. Whilst you would have to support the stance on RTE by Tyrone, I suspect there is an element of the county board who would rather there be a compromise. Unfairly I suspect this is why MH is being pushed out gradually, the county board cannot be seen to push a legend out, but are making it difficult for him to stay. But like history shows when a county loses a top manager, the end result can be years in the doldrums. Tyrone CB and Tyrone people should be careful what they wish for. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 07/09/2016 10:32:57 1911132 Link 0 |
If he doesn't get his extension surely it's the end for Mickey Harte? clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 07/09/2016 10:43:10 1911138 Link 0 |
Depending on who you talk to in Tyrone - the demand for Harte to get another term is in and around 50/50 I'd say. There are certain players who don't/won't play for country for various reasons. I will not name anyone on a public forum that probably should be in the county set up though but I think most people will acknowledge there are certain issues. Would I be right in saying the county board (chairwomen in particular), the sponsors and Mickey Harte don't see eye to eye over the RTE situation? gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 07/09/2016 11:00:22 1911161 Link 0 |
He is building a team at Tyrone and I think it would be a disaster of you didn't continue.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 07/09/2016 11:08:42 1911168 Link 0 |
Spoke to a few Tyrone lads and the jury is split - there's no doubt his pedigree is keeping him there with a new team coming through helps but on the pitch the big concern is their lack of free scoring forwards and a free taker that hasn't been solved for 3 years now. Being knocked out past 2 years because of their failure to score when there are other options on panel and not on panel not great. Sponsors also have a lot of influence and they on the most part seem to want a change. If this team doesn't contend for an All Ireland next year it could taint Mickeys record big time forever and that's the view of hardcore Tyrone lads.

I think he is the man for the job. But if he can't solve the attacking issue and freetaker issue and we have a similar or worse year then I think its probably time to try something fresh. I still think he is the man for the job but this should be decided next summer not now! redhanddefender (Tyrone) - Posts: 913 - 07/09/2016 11:47:04 1911198 Link 0 |
