McFadden retirement - Tyrone response

Replying To Soma:  "Adrian Sweeney was another, a gifted footballer similar in style to McFadden who gave everything for Donegal but never even got a provincial title. I was told that he was still playing well in club football a couple of seasons ago."
Soma I haven't seen for myself but I heard he is still playing senior for his club and still playing deadly.

Aye big Eddie is still at it and scoring for Dungloe. Some boy! One of my fondest memories of him is before throw in, in one of the Ulster finals against Armagh. Bellew and Mallon I think it was were trying to rough him up a bit. He left both of them on their arses with a couple of shoulders! As good as it got for us that day if I remember rightly!

Great to hear of lads like that, hopefully club watchers in Donegal will get to enjoy McFadden for years to come as well.

My favourite memory of Eddie is definitely his fisted point against the Dubs in '02 into the hill - some man!

Classy from Tyrone, things have been a bit sour between the counties in recent years so hopefully this is a sign of better off field relations while maintaining the rivalry on the pitch

I thought that Donegal side of the early 00s were a very decent side .

Sweeney , Devenney , McGuinness , Brian Roper , Michael Hegarty , Kevin Cassidy and guys like Damien Diver - all classy footballers .

Sadly a lot of guys enjoyed their pints too much .

They played against Tyrone and Armagh and those sides were too smart for us . Thought they were every bit as talented as the 2012 side if not better .

Yeah I think talent wise the team from that era might have been better but the application was nowhere near the same.

Replying To IrishGael3:  "In an era of massive rivalry and sometimes bordering on vicious - I have to take my hat off to Tyrone GAA for recognising McFaddens retirement - a man who's has caused so much pain to Tyrone and who's won everything in the game. When everyone is sticking the knives in the Red Hands let's recognise this recognition to a great Donegal player - Ulster football as tough as it is, is all the better for this type of recognition."
I agree . It was a very classy gesture .

IT'S BEEN 4 YEARS!!!!!!!

There's literally nothing else Tyrone fans can do to appease Monaghan, bit of a lash out has to be expected

I have to say Managhan people are a class act - McManus is young to be recognised but I bet Mickey would love to have him on the roster.

Undoubtedly IrishGael, on all accounts there!

When McManus comes out after the incident and says he'd have done the same should that not be it at that point?

Sometimes it feels like Monaghan are a bad ex, they've beaten us and we've beaten them in the championship since that game

It's nice from them and fair play .

McFadden was always a class footballer but most down south wouldn't admit it as he plays for a county in the north west ."
Load of paranoid crap.
Anyone who knows anything about gaelic football knows that he was a top footballer, wherever theyre from.

It is a big enough thing though considering the 2 counties are rivals!

Also considering Tyrone seem to have been the only county to actually congratulate the man on his career (apart from his own) your point on everyone knowing he's a quality footballer is a bit broken....or are you trying to say it goes without saying?

I think it's important to say these things with all the cynicism surrounding the game, why not state something positive that's arguably of more value than yet another complaint about the sport

Oh no man I acknowledge Tyrones gesture. No disagreement there.
I take issue with your mans claim that us Southerners dont want to acknowledge Mcfaddens ability because hes from Ulster.
Total rubbish. he's a top player.

Ahh fair fair!

Sure what would a comment on the internet about gaelic football if it weren't for a thinly veiled ulterior message alongside

Seans don't bite - joncarter usually ends his posts with "and I'm not being anti-Tyrone" when in fact he actually was and is - it's like saying "no disrespect" and then going on to totally disrespect.
