Perhaps the elephant in the room so many meath posters seem to ignore (similar proplem with co board maybe?) is their underage. Page 4 of a forum talking about the future of meath football ands its hardly mentioned. An unlucky minor team this year that 5% extra effort probly would have them a leinster title but their under 21 record is brutal this last 10 yrs, meekly giving up home advantage and the like is a disgracful way to treat your up and coming.. An agressive, bull by the horns approach at underage would provide alot more optimisim than an appointment at senior with lack of young talent coming through. Meath leinster u21 titles... 89, 90, 91, 93, 96, 97, Now thats a proper foundation for success and well utilised.. underage 1st and foremost senior 2nd... You dont become a force because your successful at underage but you certainly wont if your not..."

From what I've seen and heard there certainly seems to be an improvement at underage, the next challenge is to hold on to as many underage players as possible and to improve our club championships.

Things slowly moving in the right direction it seems, let's hope we continue to make positive moves.

Ollie yes Brian still on panel & came on as a sub on Sunday , he is Mr Reliable , week in week out he's at training Conlon is consistantly scoring for us which I would call productive !

A big problem with the Meath system is that a few rounds get played early, around the start of April and another at the start of May. You lose those your season is pretty much over just as it starts.

The CB were looking to change this year but it got voted down in the end. A number of clubs were worried about a change in their status hitting playing numbers.

I think Meath clubs are ahead of Dublin at intermediate and Junior, although until last season we weren't really winning too many of those Leinster titles.

Kerry's system of having few clubs in each grade and divisional teams seems to make their competitions very competitive.

I would agree with that. The main problem seems to be at senior level, even over past few years, meaths better players were from inter or junior, I'm thinking about burke, Keogan, Reilly , Wallace etc.

Meath Junior clubs have won 10 out 18 Leinster Junior clubs titles since the competition was started (according to Wikipedia). The thing about Meath is the senior clubs traditionally did not do that well in Leinster club championship as rarely have 2 or 3 Senior clubs dominated the inter county team (as happens in some counties) and many of the county's better players are scattered around a lot of clubs (going back a long way famously the 1967 All Ireland had 15 clubs represented in the starting line-up). In Meath I have come to think it would be great for players from lower ranked clubs to be able to play in the senior county championship with a divisional team as happens in Kerry championship. It would make the senior championship much more competitive.
