Andy McEntee - New Meath Manager

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tonny1975 (Mayo- You are again getting carried away with your own opinion and thinking it is fact. You cannot compare a new appointment with managers such as Harte and Boylan. I do think that that Andy is a very good choice and it will not be too difficult to improve from what we have but please stop posting bull.

Replying To ziggy32001:  "I honestly believe this is Meaths best appointment by far since the days of Boylan.Cracking management team too, which includes Donal Curtis and his brother Gerry. They have the capacity to make Meath at least competitve and play with true heart and desire along with belief."
It looks like an Impressive management side, bringing a lot of experience and prior success to the team.

Hopefully he can revive Meath, and bring them back to the high levels we all know they are capable of playing at.

Totally agree, it will take time to reach the heights we hope, and indeed he will not come under any pressure.
Just a side note, it shows the mans credentials that he insisted to remain as bodens manager as he didn't want them to be left in the lurch, loyalty at its highest form, he expects same from players, class act.

Ballyboden St Endas tweet he's continuing to manage them in their defense of the All Ireland.
So what happen if Boden win Dublin, Leinster and then go all the way to St Patricks day again? Thats right in the middle of an NFL campaign.

Do Meath have the quality of players to compete with the Dubs and other counties?

Best of luck to him

Meath should be far more competitive than they currently are

They do have the players to get out of Div 2

They do have the players to get back as the 2nd best team in Leinster

That should be their 2017 goal

Good Question and it remains to be seen, in my opinion Meath do have quality players.

Jim McGuinness, Malachy O'Rourke, Pete McGrath, James Horan, Sean Boylan these are all managers who proved how vital a good management team is to a squad who are "lacking" quality. I'd imagine Andy will be looking to emulate these men.

That wont happen. I have been calling for the previous manager to step aside, since it became very evident he wasn't capable.
Every Meath poster on here will testify I was not in favour of mod been appointed, however I naturally rowed in behind him when he was appointed, but he should never have been reappointed last year, . Andy McEntee is the best manager in Ireland not managing a county with the exception of McGuinness. What we achieve under Andy will be the best we can achieve, now it will take a year to get to that level, so I don't expect success ( last 4, division 1, ) prior to 18 .
However everyone will see a different Meath, and to answer one question, yes we have the players to be competitive with dubs.

I'm not so sure you will be challenging for honours in two years. I watched you against Fermanagh this year and you were shocking. Maybe there is a crop of youngsters coming through but a lot of your key players are getting on. What age is Reilly?

Is there a need for this thread the main forum? It might be a good idea for Ziggy and RD to swap numbers and talk about McEntee till the cows come home as already they have been going on about him been appointed as the new Meath manager the last two years!!

Not sure bit we will soon find out. They are certainly capable of better that is for sure.In the past few years the fight, heart and desire has not been there. At least we should see that back. For four years tactically we have been all over the place too. These things can be improved with better management..

yeah small steps. You need to see improvements and I think we will see that.the question will be how much? At the very least we should see a team going till the end and not giving up when the going gets tough.Gerry for a start won't allow that!!!! Mental toughness in the biggest thing that needs work on.

Mayo were rubbish before Horan came in.They were beaten by Wicklow in the championship!

I hope there's a big improvement in Meath football from this, it'd be good to have a proper Leinster championship again.

I'm not even convinced we do have to players to get out of division 2, perhaps if it's a poor year we may push for it, but staying in Div1 would be a big ask, but it should be our target.

McEntee has the ability and mental steel to sort out a few of our problems but the elephant in the room for me still remains our uncompetitive club championship. I know I sound like a stuck record here but it really is a major problem. There's a lack of intensity and urgency to win in our club championships because of the format and it's very hard to make up for those 2 things.

Still, I am delighted McEntee got the job, only time will tell whether it works out or not, but we went with the best candidate and done it quickly, that's a plus.

Is there a need to talk about the Cavan job on the main forum? Or should threads on the main forum be reserved for Dublin and Kerry?
