He is our "smartest" forward by far. When a forward is on the ball I look to see that he is looking up....looking for the runner or potential gap...too many Mayo forwards down the years, go head down and end up in the corner flag or bundled up in the tackle Andy looks up and the other side of a forward is making runs and making space. Good forwards always seem to have space and time when in fact they are using their football brain to be in the right place at the right time. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11232 - 23/08/2016 09:50:32 1904751 Link 0 |
You were speaking to a Mayo man in the pub, that was the first warning sign right there!

What on earth is going on with Andy Moran. He's better at 33 than he probably was at 23.For me he has been Mayo's best and most consistent player this year.I think he had one avergae game against Fermanagh but the rest he played well in .Aidan has had maybe two decent games (the last two) apart from that he had been a bit poor,Cillian O connor had one or two good games, not great yesterday.Who would of thought Mayo's star player this year would be Andy.If mayo somehow win the All-Ireland he will probably be half the reason in the final, strange thing to say about but if he doesn't show up Mayo will have huge problems .The Dubs wont even have to worry about Cillian O connor , this lad is their danger man based on performances GameOfTyrones (Tyrone) - Posts: 469 - 23/08/2016 11:42:29 1904806 Link 0 |
I have never thought much of him, like a lot of Mayo forwards down the years he has choked when it matters, I think Mayo might have been better going out to Tyrone rather than getting hockeyed again in another final, TirChonaillabu2 (Donegal) - Posts: 344 - 23/08/2016 13:30:57 1904856 Link 0 |
Not his biggest fan but saw him sharing his drink with his Tipp marker on Sunday. Something I never would have done. Hope this nice guy doesn't finish last. liner (Mayo) - Posts: 756 - 23/08/2016 13:46:03 1904862 Link 0 |
Relax, Donegal will be back again in another twenty years.

You're seriously bitter about Mayo.

No I'd actualy like to see Mayo win it, my point is that they have less of a chance this year than in the last few finals they've been in, time will tell but I think Mayo have regressed whilst Dublin and Kerry have marched on out of sight of everyone else, the standard of football has dropped as well in general, as I say in my opinion next Sunday's semi is the real final, and I think the Dubs are almost unstoppable, only for us beating them in 2014 they'd be going for 4 in a row now I have no doubt. I can't see any buzz around this year's final, it's going to be a turkey shoot as someone said in another thread. TirChonaillabu2 (Donegal) - Posts: 344 - 23/08/2016 18:02:44 1905006 Link 0 |
I didn't realise you could actually construct a few well thought out sentences, good man.

Very harsh saying he always chokes. He scored 1-2 in the 2013 final against Dublin. He got the crucial goal, as a sub, in our 06 comeback win against the Dubs. Even as far back as the 04 final he came off the bench and scored a point.

Andy Moran does not choke . That is rubbish . TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 24/08/2016 00:18:48 1905140 Link 0 |
Yeah he's more impressive than I can ever remember him being.Kind of dropped out on the limelight for a few years them back with a bang this year.If mayo could duplicate him all over the full forward line they would be wrecking havoc on defences , just really not impressed with Cillian OConnor this year , not sure if it is to do with Mayos new game plan or what but even his free taking is off lately apart from one maybe two 6/10 games, Andy is by far the most impressive forward for them at the minute , a little worrying maybe.

Andy was converted to halfback for a couple of years, but the cruciate injury was a real killer and despite being 33, this is the first year since that he's really flying. Been doing the same for his club too. Mayo aren't as big into the vintage players as the likes of Kerry tend to be, but both Andy and Alan Dillon are showing that if the fitness is still there there's no substitute for class and intelligence. 2011 Semi 0-2 2013 Final 1-2 v Dublin 2014 Semi (Sub) 0-2 v Kerry 2014 Semi Replay 1-1 v Kerry 2015 Semi (Sub) 0-2 v Dublin 20015 Semi Replay (Sub) 0-1 v Dublin 2016 Semi 0-4 v Tipp Total 2-14 Average 2.85 points per game If choking is averaging nearly 3 points from play in semis and finals since 2011 having not started in 3 of the 7 games then a lot of forwards around Ireland would love to choke i'd imagine. Also note all bar one game against Kerry and Dublin. BuffyBoffy (Mayo) - Posts: 244 - 24/08/2016 15:29:16 1905385 Link 0 |

Agree and I had to buy - no surprise there :-) presume that's what you meant? Think he was from same club as OConnor lads - anyhow it's not my opinion of him, think he's a fine footballer.

nothing to do with his football ability. Just wish he would stick to doing his talking ON the pitch.

He does far less talking then a lot of our boys off the pitch.
