The manager knows that as well-you cannot beat experience in a tight game and Tyrone is a good example of that with some of their young forwards taking incorrect decisions"
I don't think he was ever Mayo's best forward. Cavanman47s workmate has it right.

Replying To GreenandRed:  "Was that this year he said that ? It was a fair statement the past few years, it looks like Andy's career was coming to a close, only good enough to be a sub. But Rochford is getting more out of him than could be expected."
He said it just a few weeks ago - just before the Kildare game I think. . .but it was in reference to his opinion of Mayo over the last 3 or 4 years

The moment that sticks in my mind when we talk about this particular Mayo Maestro, Is when he scored a goal against the Dubs in the 2013 All Ireland final and gave it socks infront of the hill. Unfortunately for him he wasn't giving it much socks after the game when Dublin went up the steps of the Hogan to lift Sam and poor Andy's run of losing finals continued........... :)

Nah in all seriousness. Very good player having a decent run this year so far.

He does like banging goals into the hill in fairness. Remember 2006? :P

I think Andy is well liked in Mayo for his attitude and drive for the team. You can never say he does not give 100% for the team. The youngsters in Mayo adore him and he really is a model for younger player's to keep at it, give it your all.

A bit of unfair criticism coming from cavan I feel. The guy is playing well, it isn't untoward for him to get some praise for that. Nobody is claiming him to be the best ff of all time or anything.

Fair play to him. He has battled back from a terrible injury and is back playing at the level he was at 3/4 years ago before the injury.

He is obviously mentally strong and showing badly needed leadership for Mayo.

Work colleague isn't from Cavan - he's a stonethrower, sure what would you expect? ;)

Replying To GreenandRed:  "No. You're right there. He's had a good season for me though based on the fact that I thought he would be retired by now. But we definitely benefit from his experience and cuteness.. Lee Keegan is the only Mayo player, for me, that's been very good this season."
What about Colm Boyle? I think he has been the real leader for ye this year. Keegan has been good but against Fermanagh when things weren't going to plan it was Boyle who was trying to take the responsibility and lead, remember the point he scored to lift everyone around him? I think he is a class act, wish we had someone to show his fight and heart this year!!

Colm has been class alright. I love his aggression and he's not afraid to show for a ball and take it on when team-mates might be getting shot-shy. But needlessly picked up a black card against Kildare. I think if he picks up a black card v Tipp he would miss the All Ireland Final if we get that far?

Another shortcoming in the way the qualifiers are implemented. Teams playing more games are going to pick up more cards. There should be a clean slate from the quarter finals on, bar straight red cards.

Another great game from Andy Moran yesterday, his movement is unreal. What I love most about this guy is that he is proving that you can play a direct ball into the full forward line against a blanket defence. Even against Tyrone he won the ball a lot inside by his great movement and then showed great intelligence when he got the ball. The key here is that the Mayo players trust him to get when the kick long to him. Although physically strong, he is not a giant or blessed with great speed but what a football brain. I hope he can get his All-Ireland winners medal this year as he richly deserves one.

Andy is a brilliant footballer I love watching him play, it's hard to believe he used to play wingback for mayo years ago.

Yep, Andy's only made the move to the forwards in the past five years or so.

He was brilliant yesterday in the first half in particular.

The timing on his runs, dictating where he wanted the passed, which were also top drawer.

Mayo should have scored way more in the first 20 minutes off the ball Moran was getting and laying off.

Thought he was MOTM in Tyrone game also - seems to get better with age. I remember speaking to a Mayo man in a bar in Dublin 4-5 years ago and he didn't rate him - actually said he was yellow, haven't seen much evidence of that in past few years - he for one is a guy who I'd like see get an AI medal.

A class act. As my dad used to say to me towards the end of my GAA 'career' - 'Do your damage early while you have the legs' - and Andy Moran certainly did that yesterday.

He has maybe lost that pace but hasn't lost the football brain as Spillane said on Sunday, will always know where the posts are and is still worth some points to Mayo and maybe a crucial goal too.
