Mayo v Tyrone

Replying To ta32:  "The trend is increasing sadly for reasons only we can guess as to why many Donegal fans want Tyrone beaten . I for one stood in the jimmy camp when Donegal were getting slated left right and centre , after this latest trend . Will I be in that camp again . I doubt it . Find it quite sad to be honest"
We didn't beat them they themselves and the refs beat them and Rory Gallagher beat them and a woman who waved a Tyrone flag at their bus coming into Clones wrong beat them and sledging beat them and cynical fouling beat them

Basically any known entity on the planet beat Donegal except the Tyrone team that actually beat them

Replying To Seansy48:  "Well i can't argue with any of that I have to say!

Well actually one thing I would say is that Donegal's defending, when they defend like they did in the Ulster final not how they defended against Cork they're as good as anyone still, it's just not as impressive because they're less sure of themselves when they have the ball these days. Just my opinion but as you said yourself time will tell.

Frankly I'm shitting myself, we laid eggs at this stage in the past and you're correct to show the disparity in leadership between Donegal and Tyrone when you compare the leaders on the current team to the team of 03-08 there's a marked difference but I have to say a lot of things change for a player when they get that All Ireland medal in their hand, the media think of them differently, they seem to even think of themselves differently.

Brian Dooher to me has to be the greatest example of that i've ever seen. He went from being a good player on a great team to the talisman and captain on an even better team. Critics had their field day with him in 2002-03, Colm O Rourke must feel good going to look at his All Ireland medals and realising he has one less than the man he said would stop a team winning any"
Good points made in fairness.
Looking forward to the game now. It'll be the first game to light up the championship either way I think

It has. It's totally surreal in fairness. I remember seeing Declan Browne go through a couple of years without a win even in Div 4 and that's not a lifetime ago either.
The county board have to take credit for their vision of aiming for a senior title by 2020. That probably still seems ridiculous but shows major ambition.
Liam Cahills approach with the minors this year was disgusting in that he wouldn't allow any of his panel play football...so that problem still exists and was a new low from that point of view. The county board must stand in for next year and sort that out.

The tide has turned today and most people are tipping mayo. I suppose they have the firepower and much more experience as they've been there many times before.

Agree with the point about a good fair ref is need. Tyrone were badly stung by the ref last year against kerry.

I do think that there is a fear in the gaa management of Tyrone winning an all Ireland while the team are not speaking to rte. It would be a PR nightmare for them.

We will find out tomorrow if this is a step closer to becoming a reality.

Cant see Mayo beating Tyrone they just have too much pace and power all around the field. Andy Moran wont get a ball inside. We will see how good Stephen Rochford is with his tactics tomorrow!!

If Rochford is worth his salt he'll have Mayo setup quite defensively

I would expect Tyrone to win this unless Mayo build up a big half time lead like Westmeath game.

But Westmeath were asleep for 35 minutes I cant see Tyrone doing this

This is absolutely true and I hope officials in the association do not let the strained relations between Tyrone Gaa and the a**holes at RTE influence our games.

Mayo team named and one change from Westmeath came with Diarmuid O Connor coming in for Jason Doherty.

I have absolutely no idea why Connor McAliskey and Ronan O'Neill have been named in this Tyrone side. These two players have consistently underperformed against the better sides!

Puzzled!

COME ON TYRONE!

On the other hand we don't want RTE to be any more upset than they are. So really in the overall interest and for the sake of peace and harmony and to avoid adding more fuel to the fire, it might be more beneficial all round if Mayo won. I'm only saying like!!!

Not 100% sure why they are getting the nod either although they have both shown promise at times and they must be performing in training. O'neills goal in the first game against Cavan was a thing of beauty and I guess Mickey sees more to come, same with mc alliskey,at times he's good and less so other times. It really is a team effort with Tyrone though so I'm not so fazed by the idea that we don't have marquee forwards. I couldn't care less as long as scores come through good ,smart and committed attacking play which we are very good at in an overall sense. Just a side question to any Tyrone fans that's kind of related, what has become of lee Brennan this year? Is it just too soon for him given his age? Thought he was goin well earlier in the season.

Mayo lost to Galway and have wins over Fermanagh, Kildare and Westmeath. In horse racing terms that form would not add up. Yet a lot of pundits expect Mayo to improve on facing their toughest opposition to date. Mayo's attempts to tighten the defence just does not impress and Tyrone's running off the shoulder game in Croke Park will cause them plenty of problems. This year smacks a lot like 2003 when a lot of people did not rate them. Tyrone came of age against Donegal and I think they will show today that they are the most likely team to take on Dublin in the near future.

Tyrone have improved on last year. Mayo obviously had a bad day against Galway but that can happen in championship. It's better to learn the lesson in provincial championship. Another reason Ulster qualifiers should have an advantage, they are learning lessons in a competitive province.

It's a hard game to call. I've has a suspicion that Mayo and Donegal might yet have a decent championship. I don't doubt Tyrone but I think Mayo might shade it.

Its a Mayo win all the way for me..............If tyrone are going to win they will have to win well. The Gaa would dearly love Mayo to win the all ireland. Mayo arguably the best supported Football county at the moment. The Gaa are no fools. fully expect Mayo to get all the 50/50 decisions and plenty soft frees. Like i said for tyrone to win they will have to beat the officials today i feel.
