Mayo v Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Very hard to call, Mayo haven't been near the Mayo of the last 4 years honestly don't know if they have the extra gears anymore for Tyrone , but I still don't know how good this Tyrone team is , did they beat a great Donegal team or an old team that's on the downward spiral I honestly don't know. Mayo need Diarmud O Conor back big time he's there main man , I can't see Andy Moran or Regan getting a kick against Tyrone so O Conor is huge. Really looking forward to getting in early for this one.

No the Final, but next Saturdays are the 'De facto' AI semi finals so essentially you are correct

Mayo's Mcloughlin/Sweeper experiment has failed miserably so far against weaker teams. It must be abandoned forthwith.

No disrespect to Galway and Tipp, whoever comes out of this will have one foot in the final. A tight game to call, you could maybe fancy Tyrone on form. However this Mayo team are battle hardened, and still have a great mix of youth and experience. Over the past two years they got mighty close to Dublin and Kerry, the previous 2 champions. I think maybe they have been preparing for August throughout the year and we are yet to see the best of them. This will be Mayos best performance in a few years, and whilst Tyrone are improving I suspect they will not quite be ready for the increase in standard. Mayo by 2 for me.

That's a good summary Clondalkin. There a lot of issues that are not clear in relation to this match . Are Tyrone as good as the hype suggests ? Can Mayo play to their full potential? Like you I am really looking forward to this . I think if Mayo play to their full potential they will be too strong for Tyrone . But that is a very big if . Bring it on !!!

Yewtree not so.

On the Dublin Side I see Kerry having a very good chance of pipping Dublin. Dublin are the better team but in a one off match considering the last match I give Kerry the advantage.

On the Mayo Side, Mayo have a proven free taker and a proven Target Man neither of which Tyrone have. Tyrone better than Mayo if they make it to the final I think but that's a big big if. Mayo have usually beaten Tyrone in these matches.

No. Ulster play Connacht in this year's semi final.

Who is mayo's proven free taker?

Cillian O'Connor.

One of the best in the game.

Sadly, far from consistent or reliable. Fine for the tap overs and the occasional outrageous one.

Would agree with CD, very hard to call, mayo are regressing, bit still may have one more kick, Tyrone are progressing but not near all ire contender yet, two teams heading in different directions meeting at about even.

You'd have to fancy Tyrone after watching Mayo today but you'd hope from a Mayo point of view that they will get into the zone now that we are at the business end of the season.

I have a sneaking feeling that this could be Mayo's year for Sam, when nobody is expecting it, if they beat Tyrone they will be in for the easier semi final, whoever meets them in the final, likely Dublin, will have come through 2 tough battles.
I think there is still another kick in Mayo, I wouldn't read too much into todays performance, they won and that's all they had to do.

Going on the form of both teams this year so far, you would have to favour Tyrone. Mayo have been very patchy, in fairness I think they took their foot of the pedal today so wouldn't read too much into it. The big question is if Mayo can rediscover their form and put it up to Tyrone, if they can it would be a 50/50 game.

I don't think it is any certainty that the winner of this game will reach the All-Ireland final. I think people arseriously underestimating Galway.

Dublin beat Westmeath handy. It's Leinster football.

Westmeath give Mayo a right rattle, ahhhhhh Mayo were in 2nd gear.

Tyrone will be Mayos first proper test this year. Let's hold off on the coronation until after that.

Bit harsh man. He'd a rare off day against Westmeath, but the stats show he has been the most consistent and reliable free taker in the country for the last few years.

A lot of pessimism amongst us Mayo fans understandably. The big thing will be getting the recovery right in 7 days. They made the Westmeath game so much tougher than it needed to be. Keegan looked to have taken a knock when he was subbed so that's a concern. If DO'C isn't available next weekend our goose is cooked no matter what.

Anyone know what the story is with Mattie Donnelly's injury? Is there a good chance he'll be absent?

I have a feeling for Mayo in this one, there has to be one kick in them and it may come next weekend
