Replying To BlueHeaven:  "Well said Jinxie. Really glad it was a Meath referee today and not a biased ref from the six counties like the one in the league final. Gotmilk is typical of the attitude we in Cavan have to face in Ulster all the time. For the record The goal from the 45 was punched on before being scored by Moynagh so wasn't a square ball. Our green neighbours never let the facts get in the way of a good rant!"
Wise up you fool. Please point out to me at what point of the move is Givney NOT in the square. According to the rules it was a square ball, there is nothing envious about it. Take off the rose tinted glasses.

I'm not sure to understand the square ball rule. It doesn't apply from open play, and all three goals were score from open play. Even the second one. After the 45 was taken it was touched by a cavan player BEFORE it went towards the square, which nullified the dead ball rule surrounding square balls. All 3 goals were perfectly legitimate.

I don't think you can read much into that game - it was very wet and seemed to rain all day which makes good football very difficult however it was enjoyable to watch albeit strewn with errors particularly Tyrone who I believe do not like the wet ball considering misplaced passes and dropped balls, Cavan on the other hand handled the conditions better. In saying all that I don't think Tyrone will play as bad again and the extra game will do them no harm at all.

What an on the edge of the seat match for a wet June afternoon. Impressed with Cavan's drive and ability to pierce Tyrone's defence and that last minute goal was a fitting end to the game.As a neutral, you would think that Cavan had their chance, Tyrone can play better...Tyrone in the past have shown how quick they can learn and amend ...Someone earlier stated how Cavan learnt from the league...I would have to agree. Hope the replay will be televised. Think it's still in favour of Tyrone for the replay.

Dublin won't be shaking in their boots for any performance this year, including Kerrys. Maybe that's a good thing.

Qualifiers will be interesting with teams like Mayo and whoever loses this replay.

You really don't understand the square ball rule.

1. Football Only - "Square Ball"
This has been amended to allow a player enter the small rectangle once the final deliberate play of the ball has been made, i.e as soon as the player kicks, hand-passes, fist passes or deliberately flicks the ball into the small rectangle then the attacking player may enter. The rule is unchanged with regard to "Set Play" i.e. Free Kicks, Line Balls and 45s - in these instances players are not permitted to enter the small rectangle before the ball.

The above is the most up to date one. Released in 2012. The old rule only applies to dead ball situations. The new rule does not permit a player to be in the square before the final pass is delivered. They are allowed to go into the square once the pass is delivered. They can get into the square before the ball. At no point in the move is Givney NOT in the square. When the pass is delivered he is sitting in the square therefore he is guilty of a square ball. The rule is above in bold. Now would you please be kind enough to point out to me where it says that a player is allowed to be in the square in open play before the ball is played???

Cavan were v good today first 20 mins serious intensity but Tyrone grew into the game and then took control with the goals keeping Cavan in it. Mickey Harte will learn a lot from the match mainly they need a McMahon in the full back line for the high ball as they were poor today in this area. On the whole conceding three goals but not getting beaten makes Tyrone now more dangerous as they will improve. Cavan played well but they can play better as a good few of their main men were quiet today apart from Givney who was v good. Ulster championship really got going today.

Was it just me or did Gough give a couple of crucial decisions against cavan today?

You obviously don't know the rule, the flick on took place outside the square so if a place is in the square as the ball is flicked it's a square ball and a free out. If the referee don't pick up that's not Cavan's problem

I think the last goal was just borberline ok.......Givney was in the square when the ball came accross but the ball seemed to be played accross the small square line and Givney made contact on the edge of the square and the ball was possably outside the line or very near to it. The second goal was a square ball as the goalscorer was in the square before any flick on was made. Last weeks second Donegal was a funny one with the scorer clearly standing with one foot inside and one foot outside the small square when he palmed the ball to thr net.....was he inside or outside.....or both. The rule probably needs some attention from the CCCC.

Yes he did. Some very poor decisions went against Cavan particularly the one involving Mossy Corr.

I don't think so, I thought it was fairly balanced and well referee'd match in fairness.

Jinxie the old square ball rule applies to dead ball situations, but the rule for open play is the player can move into the square as soon as the ball is played. But not before it. moynagh and Givney where both in the square. Either David Gough didn't see it or worse didn't know the rule.

The thing is he is in the square before the ball is delivered. He actually moves away from the goal he is that far inside the square.

Got milk you are 100%. The problem is the referees don't know the rules, even the inter county ones"
Tyrone learn more from draws usually Drew in Ulster in 2003 and 2005. Two goals were possible square balls but Mickey O'Neill should have stayed back on his line for the third. Again Tyrone's conversion rate of chances of scores was bad with Cavan no better in that.
