A question for ye so lads , out of the 3 players Galvin dooher or Flynn in their hay day who would ye have on ye'r team? KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 25/09/2016 13:05:27 1918884 Link 0 |
The amount he has scored in past years is of little relevance to Dublin winning the All-Ireland this year. What is relevant is his current form and it is obviously poor. He has scored three points in the championship so far this year and Dublin have played six championship games. Paul Flynn is no longer winning primary possession. He now appears to be a peripheral player on the Dublin team, its game after game he plays poorly. I am sure Jim Gavin will be critisized for failing to nurture a replacement this year for Paul Flynn should Dublin not win the All-Ireland. I expect he will be again selected for the replay, as it was the 74th minute before he was replaced last Sunday, despite having a poor game. The only change I expect for Saturday is Kevin McMenamin, to be replaced by Paddy Andrews. It will be disappointing for Kevin McMenamin as he had played brilliantly all year prior to last Sunday but he is a proven game changer when coming on as a substitute and this is something Paul Flynn would not be able to deliver. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 598 - 25/09/2016 13:29:40 1918891 Link 0 |
I'd pick Dooher as best of the 3 as well. Always played well on the big occasion and got a few vital scores in big games too.

Surely that Cork team underachieved not overachieved.

Ya that cork team probably didn't get the amount of allirelands they should have got. They were a fantastic outfit but we wouldn't have feared them in an allireland final especially after we beat them in the Munster semifinal replay in PUC. I think Galvin getting involved with with cadogan in that semifinal and Tomas acting the hard man against limerick in the final and both being suspended for the quarterfinal against down cost us that year. If dooher was tractor he'd have been John Deere .

Hard choice. I have only seen Galvin play a few times in the flesh. I saw dooher many times. I have seen flynn a good few times at this stage too. So I would be going on stats rather than personal view. Dooher would be my pick. I think that he never ever had a bad game, and as far as I know, always finished on the pitch (didnt have to be subbed because of a card nor got a red). That is a big thing in terms of being valuable to a team. Galvin was incredible. So is Flynn. Although if you are tallying scores he and the other 2 got in games, you should really audit the big games rather than the smaller games. Dooher is the pick of the three for sure. Not sure about Flynn vs Galvin. Very little between them for me. Both fabulous players.

I would agree with most people the only bad game I remember Dooher playing was against Dublin in 2011 but he was at the tail end of his career by then I think glynn was a better player than halving I would have him all day long jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 26/09/2016 11:36:43 1919184 Link 0 |
That's meant to be flynn and galvin!!!

Flynn way ahead of either of them two, Flynn was the best player in Ireland for 3 seasons running I don't remember Dooher or Galvin ever called that. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 26/09/2016 17:07:41 1919359 Link 0 |
Well Galvin actually won Player of the Year, unlike your own personal 3 in a row that you've awarded Flynn. As good as Flynn is you're validating your bias with nonsense as usual.

You've made some outlandish claims on here fella, but that one takes the biscuit!

Not much between them for me Galvin won player of the year but Flynn won 4 all stars in a row, can't remember the last half forward to do that keithlemon (Australia) - Posts: 920 - 26/09/2016 17:18:51 1919368 Link 0 |
Ah yeah, I can't separate them myself but it was Clondalkin that insisted Flynn was WAY ahead of the other two.

Trevor Giles and Michael Donnellan both won 3 in 4 years and won POTY. Both late 90s.

Galvin was given the award instead of Gooch cause it was a great story after what happened the year before but he was never poty Gooch was then Tommy Walsh then Declan O Sullivan. Paul Flynn from '11 to '14 was outstanding he destroyed everyone in his wake. Galvin or Dooher never reached Flynns level. I'm not bias at all I've said a million times that Gooch n Canavan are the greatest forwards I've ever seen. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 26/09/2016 18:10:23 1919399 Link 0 |
I'm telling it's your dislike of Dublin that you could never put Flynn ahead of them two, Flynn had it all workrate tackling scoring goals n points catching savage ball over his head the other two where not on Flynns level. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 26/09/2016 18:27:20 1919402 Link 0 |
