" If master actually read between the lines he'd see that we are all open to inclusiveness, but not at any price. "

Any price. stop being so melodramtic......at the end of the day its a bit of fabric and few notes. Yes it means so much so so many of us but we have to understand this is a shared world. Compromise is the key to any good relationship in any field or walk of life

'Maybe it is just you as I don't feel overly nationalistic during anthems and don't particularly care for things like that. The tricolour and anthem are far from the only reasons keeping British Nationalists away from the GAA. You are spot on about the republicans and club/trophy/ground names'

Keep you bending over backwards Ormo, its only a matter of time before you'll be able to lick what you preach!

" Will that stop them burning gaa club grounds ? No and no to this stupid request "

Are THEY the same people who broke into and wrecked a county cork clubhouse over the weekend? Thats a fierce journey

"I think playing the anthem before every single game completely devalues the anthem and sense of occasion, it becomes a monotonous procedure, as Mes said, just reserve it for big occasions, ie provincial and AI finals etc."

100% agree. Nothing worse that standing in healy park, celtic park etc on a cold feb night getting soaked and having to wait another few minutes to hear a song we have heard more than happy birthday

Sam Maguire who the famous cup was named after was Church of Ireland and Douglas Hyde who was the first president of this country and the Rossies home ground is called after was a protestant. We have a tri-colour that represents both communities. Keep flying the tri-colours and Keep playing the Soldiers Song. Erin go Bragh.

Should we also not be removing the catholic church as our patron?

I dunno about the rest of you but standing and singing the national anthem on All Ireland final day is for me one of the proudest things I have done and been lucky enough to do. A real sense of Irishness and pride comes over me, but that is just me.

Yeah me too yew tree, it's a special moment to sing the national anthem, facing our flag in Croke Park. Pass no remarks of Burns it seems he is only trying to get the GAA Presidents job.

I'm sorry are we totally losing our identity? .... we are in serious territory here of losing sight of where we come from... it is OUR National Game.... why wouldn't you have our symbolic creeds on display be it flag or song.... it is the Soldier Song, and the Flag remember is Green White and Yellow.. the "two Sides" in symbolic units... sorry but a disgrace....

Not a chance I would attend games in Windsor Park even if the anthem was
removed. It is in located in one of the worst districts in the North for loyalism.

Who is Jarlath Burns?

Well he's a former Armagh captain, headteacher of the largest ( one of thelargest ) schools in the north, newspaper columist, radio and TV commentator/analyist,
involved in the Irish Language movement, member of the Victims Commission,( all paid positions) and secretary of Silverbridge Harps in Co. Armagh.

Jarlath has no role on any committee ( big or small) within the Armagh County Board..... but he has found himself on one of these appointed committees in Croke Park..... Jarlath wants to be President... we in Armagh feel that and believe that....now that may not be true but there is an agenda to all these controversial remarks....
For many years GAA clubs in the north couldn't fly their flag because of fear of attack etc... now clubs are proud of their identity.....

The national anthem when sung well on a big day is a rousing experience and one which should continue....... as a Gael with protestant relations.... I bring them when i can....but i still sing.... we are Irish and that should not be diluted.....

If we want to show equality well than look at the BBC ni coverage at 6.50pm yesterday evening.... we had footage from empty soccer matches (5) and hockey but no TV footage from any of the club games in the north... Antrim and Down County finals, Tyrone semi ( 7,000) big crowds also in Armagh and Down semi-finals....
I would like Jarlath to comment on this lack of equality......

"As ive said before to others Master, feel free to come up to the Shankill or Sandy Row and preach your gospel of inclusivity with your soft southern brogue."

few years back i got lost on the sandy row in my away derry top. went to the NI supporters club with a couple i met and had a great night. no bother at all. i was even showing them my Amhrán na bhFiann tatt on my upper back i got that year in king cross in sydney. had no bother. Same weekend i met a guy in the bar opposite the indian place on the lisburn road. guy did serious time something for some loyalist group and spoke more irish than anyone bar one person i know.

We need to move forward and not stand still. accept all into the game and that may mean some changes from all parties not just one

@TheMaster - You haven't a clue. The bottom line is they have no time for GAA full stop. Dropping the national anthem and the tricolour isn't going to change their attitude. It's just tokenism that won't change anything, except to keep one individual in the media spotlight with a view to a future run at the GAA Presidency.

Replace the name and colours and you could be a lad from east belfast during the flag protests

My Irishness is not a bargaining chip, it has been fought over, many people have needlessly lost their lives over it, the Orange state and subsequent unionist politicians and their deathsquads sought to eradicate it. But to me the most visible emblem of that Irishness is represented by the tricolour and our national anthem, and these are non-negotiable as far as I'm concerned.

Ye and we should get rid of our language(Gaeilge)at games too and keep Southerners out of Ulster Championship games, change the Irish language version of our county on the back of our jersey to the made up 'English' name etc etc. Blah blah blah. Why have we got this mentality in Irelandthat we always have to water down what is Irish so as to make it acceptable and to 'reach out' to people on this island who see themselves as been British and who do not wish to accept it. Just look at our flag. It represents the protestant 'traditions'as much as it does our Irish culture. Two thirds of it is directed at making our land acceptable to the British.

We should be proud of our culture regardless of what others think about it. Bímis bródúil. Bímis Gaelach.

Burns trying to raise his profile for a run at the top job, taking the controversial Brolly route to PR awareness probably not the way to go to be fair.

A non story getting oxygen during a quiet time of the year

Losing our identity? You are an irish man horsebox. How many times you sing the national anthem doesn't change that. The question Id have is why do we have to inform people of our identity, at every single sporting event?
