Success follows the money...POOL SPONSORSHIP

"Doire i noticed you haven't came back to me about the meals on wheels. Do you think it is easy for an intercounty footballer to make all that food themselves and train etc? That's not even taking into account the financial implications for said intercounty player. If you think financial resources helps intercounty teams then you are deluded. "

No of course it isnt easy. This is a case of keeping up with the jones and I want what they want. This is not the issue for counties with more money. They made money on merit usually and spent it correctly. This is not a communist state. Teams with less money can beat teams with more as shown with Donegal and Dublin last year. Cork and Kildare this year.

Hes a great example. Derry have more money, more clubs, better training grounds, more coaches etc than longford!

Result the last 2 times we played?????? Longford won. Money does not buy success

Gotmilk ill asume this is a typo. Im not saying it doesnt help some. Im saying it is not the answer to success and im saying its up to every man, club and county to look after their own affairs

Sorry for the delay

1764215 gotmilk There is a reason there is no big business sponsoring small population areas or teams with no success.......because if they did they wouldn't be a big company in the first place with decisions like that.

Sponsorship has a goal. To reach as many people as possible. If you want a big deal then achieve a big goal and then the money will follow.

A county like Fermanagh and Leitrim could win the next 5 all ireland in a row and would still not get the same sponsorship deals as the Dubs... key reason is BRAND AWARNESS.

The Dubs got such a great deal (Fair play to them) becuase AIG will be able to see their name and logo everywhere and get some sort of reward from this. Exactly the same reason why manchester united have got such a massive deal with addidas despite not being in the champions league when it was agreed.

Can someone tell me how many Dublin Jerseys are sold each year and how games televised compared with fermanagh / Leitrim etc. Makes business sense for AIG to sponser them over the small counties.

"Central Council's total revenues increased from €54.6m in 2013 to €56.2m in 2014 - a growth rate of 3%. The majority of our revenues each year are earned from two principal sources: gate receipts and commercial revenues (such as sponsorships and media rights), and 2014 was no exception. In fact the single most important barometer of our financial well-being in any given year is attendance revenues."

Attendance is the main revenue…….NOT SPONSORSHIP

"Gate receipts represented 52% of our revenues from all sources during the year."

"This year Central Council distributed €12.4m to counties and clubs to underwrite their operating costs and to defray the cost of their participation in the various competitions. This is a modest increase of €700k over 2013."

"The scale of our games development programme continues to impress. Last year we again invested almost €10m in coaching and development, throughout Ireland and internationally, to the benefit of adult and underage players, coaches and match officials in every county."

How much more of a handout do people want? The 26 also get money from the Irish Sports Council.

"To that end 2014 saw us fund significant enhancements in eight county grounds, as well as health and safety improvements in a further eight more. In addition our club grants programme benefitted by over €2m. Total capital investment was over €7m - an increase of over €1m on 2013 levels."

That's 18.4 million spend and im only on page 2 of the report!!!!!

"Central Council's income in the year was €56.2m (2013: €54.6m). This represents a 3% increase on 2013. Central Council's investment in the Gaelic Games exceeded €51m (2013: €49m) in the current year. The combination of increased income expenditure levels has enabled Central Council to deliver a surplus of €130,729 (2013: €114,217)."

Nail on the head. Market potential and huge media exposure. These are inbuilt advantages that smaller counties do not have.

Mayo, Kerry, Dublin, Donegal got 4.18 mil

Roscommon, Galway, Limerick and Clare got 3.34 mil

Does that extra 1 million really explain the gap?

People do understand this and that is where the issue is. Dublin will always attract big sponsors and as a result will have an advantage over their rivals.

This stood out to me in the accounts

Dublin Games Development* 1,460,400

What other county gets that sort of payment from HQ? Can someone explain why that is so large? I can only scan this report as i'm in work.

Ah yeah. I wonder if the total amounts are split by county or HQ?

Dublin pop 1 mil get 1.5mil euro . thats 0.66 per person

Leitrim pop 32k get 39 k thats 0.82 per person

Carlow pop 54k get 42 k thats 1.28 per person

It is equal in my opinion

Gents there are lots of you not following proper financial analyses and getting carried away with the big number dubblin receive.

If you divide the total dublin payment by the number of youngsters in county dublin between the age of 4 and 18 that participate in GAA and compare this with that of all counties it will put everything into equal perspective. It say ratio wise dublin are not number 1.

EXAMPE - Dublin currently receive a payment of 1,460,400 which is just under 38 times more than Fermanagh's 39,000. Based on the toatally population figures of people interetsted in GAA that were floating about before sundays game id suggest this was about right.

People will still argue that Dublin will benefit from more coaches ability to spread there time in specific areas etc and therefore economies of scale, but why should a youngster in Dublin not get the same funding as everywhere those else in the country.

As I said dont let the big number scare you, at least compare apples with apples.

On a seperate note, glancing through that report (Very interetsing I might add) I noticed that some members are on a DB pension, any jobs going in the GAA woundt mind taking that home.

Excellent analysis above by posters. I have been saying this for years to certain posters on this forum, Dublins funding from the GAA has to be understood in the context of how much and how many people it has to be shared amongst.

Simply saying, for example, getting 1,000,000 euro and sharing it between 32 counties would solve problems is ludacris. That would mean each county would get 31,250 euro. Now that may help a county with small structures, but for Dublin its a drop in the ocean.

If people think withdrawing development grants from Dublin would help other counties they are truly deluded. If Dublin don't promote GAA in the city and development the general population in the county will just watch more soccer, buy less jerseys, won't attend games and feel a detachment to Gaelic games etc etc.

Net effect is revenues for the GAA are down. Less development grants for everyone else.

Be need to be really careful about what they wish for.
