"Your booing was an embarrassment"

Really you've only heard booing by Dublin supporters? There is such a thing called the RTE player - randomly select a GAA game - any game and listen. But I suspect your tone deaf and only hear what you want to hear.

I think Jim McGuinness is raising an important point but he focused on the wrong game. Fermanagh lost by 8 pts yesterday and for a division 3 team that was seen as a moral victory for them and understandably so. If you look at the top teams they have lost by that amount to each other in the last few years i.e Dublin v Kerry semi final 2013 and Donegal v Dublin 2014 semi final. I think Fermanagh showed up Dublins frailties and for that Fermanagh should be commended. Instead he should have spoken about the totally one sided game between Kerry and Kildare, Kerry were awesome scoring seven goals in the second half and it is so discouraging for any county to be humiliated to that extent.

I couldn't believe the way the Fermanagh fans were celebrating getting well beaten myself, strange thing to see.

We weren't celebrating getting beat. For the last 6/7 years the county has had a lot more downs than up. We got put out of the championship not that long ago. The fans stayed at the end to thank the players for restoring the pride in the jersey. These lads have given up their evenings since October to restore pride in the jersey. They went to crokepark to play the dubs who were 1/200 on. I think if Bristol City was playing Barcelona the Catalans wouldn't even be that short of odds. Would those criticising Fermanagh rather that we walked out of the stadium before the game was over? Every time Fermanagh scored we cheered almost as a thank you. I was speaking to one of the players after the game and he said the second half was amazing to play in. He said the ground felt like it was rocking at one stage. I can not for the life of me see what is wrong here?
Fans cheered on an underdog who were giving their all. They were playing against a juggernaut that has unlimited resources. They thanked them for restoring pride in their jersey.

I do wonder what the alternative was supposed to be?

Boo the players because a division 3 side lost to the league winners? Flagellate ourselves for exceeding expectations this season? If we weren't cheering just what should we have been doing?

sorry Royal Dunne but a strange sight was Meaths second half performance against Westmeath this year.

Not a strange sight at all, Westmeath had done what they had never done before and were rightly jubilant and celebrated as such, the strange sight was watching Fermanagh fans doing the exact same after getting hammered by Dublin. Strange!!;

everyone should relax, its only a game, if people cannot applaud their team for playing the game well throughout the year and providing some enjoyment for the county then god help us

Too obvious. Try for more subtly.

For a county with such limited resources Fermanagh put up a magnificent performance. Victory on the football field is only a small oart of being a footballer, but the process of getting there, overcoming obstacles, trying your very best is more important. As Ursula Le Guin said "It matters that every journey has an end, but in the end what matters is the journey." Victory is but a fleeting satisfaction

Fain leg you are spot on - Jim picked the wrong game to illustrate his point and failed to appreciate how the fermanagh fans got behind the team in the second half and how that also drove on the team - that continued after the game and was not a show of support for mediocrity but genuine appreciation for their efforts in this game and also throughout the year. Surely they are entitled to show their appreciation. His overriding point is still valid though but picking fermanagh wrong choice I think this time

Some perspective on maybe why the fermanagh fans thought to applaud their team on the last occasion they get to see them in 2015.
Results in 2015.
League. Played 7 won 5 drew 1 lost 1
Championship Played 6 won 4 lost 2
Played 13, drew 1, lost 3.

I wasn't talking about fans RD. I was talking about the performance on the pitch. When would a meath side ever give up a 10 point lead? Appalling fall from grace for a county that once produced good teams. It's a long time since that happened. What was the score the last time Meath played Dublin in the championship? I'm guessing it was closer than the 8 points Fermanagh got within of the Dubs.

Here , you probably have a shrine at home at home with all your participation medals, fifth and sixth place certificates in Irish dancing and feis poetry. Get a grip, winning is everything, second best is last.

I read JMG's comments again last night and it got me thinking that that what he saw last Sunday was the Fermanagh fans cheering not the defeat on the day but the entire journey for 2015 which started with the mc kenna cup and continued through the league by getting promoted to Div 2 and finally through the championship, reaching the 1/4 finals. Many of those fans who were in Croke park were on that journey from February to August and have seen the improvement and the progress made by the team - JMG only saw last Sunday's game and he was not on the same journey as the fans were. And why should this progress they made during the year not be lauded? As one of the Wicklow players remarked to Tomas corigan and as reported in the weekend paper, Fermanagh's run gives example to other so called weaker counties of what can be achieved ; overall I think the fans and the team added hugely to this year's championship.
I also thought of the teams in the 1/4 finals this year and the fact that 2 of those teams are managed by 2 former Fermanagh players - isn't that something that those same fans who supported Fermanagh teams over the years also supported and nurtured Malachy o'Rourke and Rory Gallagher to the extent of what they are putting back into the game now at the highest level and with success also.
So I think , rather than deride those fans and the apparent celebration of the defeat, think not just about last Sunday in isolation but the progress that the county with one of the smallest resources in the country can do in getting to their third 1/4 final and maybe look at this from the other side that this can be held as an example of what can be done - I see the glass as half full for sure
