Meant to say Aiden o Shea is some beast of a man and for the size of the lad he is quite nimble on his feet,it's a pity Neil McGee went off because I thought he was doing alright on him considering the great ball that was being pumped in. The issue is MH, if Tom Cunniffe doesn't recover from the injury he picked up, Mayo will need to use a couple of twenty year olds as defensive cover for the SF. So Kevin Keane's suspension is a potential headache. Andy Moran and Kevin McLoughlin can both play halfback, but cover for the fb line is far thinner and younger. All our midfield options also started the game yesterday, which was a pretty adventurous move by the sideline. Donegal will miss McFadden if he goes... a real class act. The proof is there for all to see Donegal are no world beaters, they were handed an All Ireland by Mayo in 2012, hammered by the same opposition in 2013, beat an overhyped Dublin in 2014 then lost to Kerry and got well beaten by Mayo yesterday. Kerry are the kingpins and are top of the pile with Mayo in 2nd and Dublin close by in 3rd, Donegal, Tyrone etc are below that. Mayo, Dublin and Donegal have beaten each other but Mayo are the only team to run Kerry close in the past 2 years. You have to beat Kerry to prove your worth riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 09/08/2015 10:31:46 1766327 Link 0 |

Riveerboys, i think if you check your facts, Donegal beat Kerry on their way to the all Ireland in 2012.....well done to Mayo yesterday, but don't get over hyped or carried away with yourself as Dublin are waiting in the long grass for yee and they are more than happy to let the whole country to be talking about Kerry and not them....your phyric victory will come at a cost, full back injured, Donal Vaughan suspended? for his 2nd needless black card of the season, and your favourite Kevin Keane who lasted less than 60 seconds......thats 3 defender's missing, if Sligo can score 2 11 against yee, what will the Dubs get? Crash bang whallop down to earth yee'll come..... donegalcelt (Donegal) - Posts: 141 - 09/08/2015 11:01:54 1766366 Link 0 |
Muck open your eyes he got a puck on the cheek and went crying to the umpire when the game was over, classless from Murphy. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 09/08/2015 11:36:50 1766395 Link 0 |
Congratulations to Mayo on a fantastic performance on the pitch and off it. Amazing hunger from a team who have also been on the road quite a while. I was most impressed with how tactically astute Mayo were yesterday. Got all the match ups right targeting Donegal's key men. Clearly learned much from Kerry last year and Monaghan this year. There was also a more cynical approach which may have been missing in the past which shows the team have learned from past failures. For example Ryan McHugh was never allowed get going as the majority of the time he was getting pulled and dragged or body checked just when starting his runs minimizing his impact on the game. Not legal and done away from play and officials eyes but entirely part of a ruthless game plan. The new Donegal management have much to learn in this regard. As I said earlier try to keep the Mayo for Sam stuff to a minimum as alluded to by Lee Keegan when interviewed post match. Ye have been guilty of getting far too carried away in the past so some quiet optimism is required. I was actually going to say the rest of the country is behind ye till I read the bitter sour post from riverboys here. Donegal earned that AI in 2012 by beating most of the top teams in the country. Nothing was handed to them and they were the deserved winners in that final. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2782 - 09/08/2015 12:04:24 1766414 Link 0 |
jim McGuinness is right the one sided games must be addressed as Donegal were hammered again maroondiesel (Mayo) - Posts: 1197 - 09/08/2015 12:08:04 1766422 Link 0 |
Well done mayo, deserved winners, and did so pulling up yesterday. I think this could be the year for them. Have to say we are past our glory days, and it comes to most counties. We have probably punched above our weight, and the team gave us some great days over the past 5 seasons. A word of caution to some mayo posters, be modest. There is nothing like the football championship for bringing you back down to earth with a bang, and although I believe mayo are looking very good indeed, there is disappointment ahead if mayo flake in either of their remaining games. I didn't say it was a great win, it was a win that all. Over the past 4 years they have played 3 times in the knockout stages with Mayo winning 2 out of 3, both wins haven't been close games and in 2012 it was Donegal title to lose and but for the 2 early goals that were sucker punches for us ye may have lost it. As for boasting we ain't, a win means nothing without the main prize. The Dublin defence won't be able to handle O'Shea but the Mayo defence won't be able to hold the Dublin forwards and it will come down to who can score from distance outside the 45m line and Dublin will win that hands down, Mayo have no scorers from long distance apart from the odd point from Seamus O'Shea and Tom Parsons. At the moment my heart says Mayo but my head says Dublin, I hope it changes in the next 3 weeks riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 09/08/2015 12:18:50 1766437 Link 0 |
First of all congratulations to Mayo, they played very well and even though Donegal were hanging in there they were clearly the better team. In the first half Donegal put up a good fight but the goal before half time was a killer. I feel Mayo are in with a good shout of winning the All-Ireland. I was impressed with the way they saw out the game yesterday, some poor shooting aside. There was no show boating when well ahead and they just did a professional job. In fairness riverboys Donegal never claimed to be "world beaters" or "Kingpins" . Its just that they have punched above their weight for the past five years with a small panel that were going no where pre 2011. You are correct about Kerry being the yardstick but dont forget that Donegal ran them very close in 2014 AI and beat them in 2012 on their way to "being handed an AI" (beating Tyrone, Kerry, Cork and Mayo). At this stage Mayo have beaten Donegal twice (13/15) and Donegal have beaten Mayo two times as well (92/12) but significantly they closed the deal and captured Sam on those occasions .. this is exactly what the majority of us want Mayo to focus on now instead of rubbishing a defeated team that featured 3-4 players performing in Croke Park for the last time. Mayo are awesome, unstoppable. McFadden had a goal chance in the first half that was a huge miss that was a game changer, congrats to Mayo. Sam is coming west suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1672 - 09/08/2015 12:30:56 1766458 Link 0 |
Donegal were by far the best team in 2012 and got everything perfect in their preparation, they owe nobody anything. Just a point on this year, the fawning over Rory Gallagher this year was beyond embarrassing. Jim McGuinness was the main man and have them where they are today. Stevie Wonder would have switched somebody on Keegan yet Gallagher left his man there to rot for most of the game, bizarre to say the least. Riverboys, you'd want to have a word with yourself. We were behind from the first minute to the last of the 2012 All-Ireland final, so how you can infer that we somehow threw it away is beyond me. Donegal beat all of the major contenders that year and were deserved All-Ireland champions. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 09/08/2015 12:47:50 1766480 Link 0 |
