Monaghan vs Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is a really difficult game to call. Donegal have played both teams and there really isn't much between them. Tyrone are gathering momentum and are dangerous, fair enough they haven't beaten any top sides yet but they are capable of doing so. Monaghan are such a strong side and I think they will shade it on a scoreline of something like 12 points to 10.

Up the wee six, and all that!

Nothing to do with the 'wee six' or any of that. Just more connections in Tyrone. In fact if it helps dispel this notion you seem to have Cavan would be my second choice Ulster team on account of my Grandfather and if it was them playing Tyrone then would have been shouting for Cavan. Don't worry - I shout for ye outside of all Ulster pairings. Just not inside.

In fairness, Monaghan owe Tyrone one. Likely to be this time around. Talent wise it should be a no contest, Monaghan are a different step up but I would worry about their mentality when they face Dublin/Tyrone just seem to have something on them.

I'm putting the house on Monaghan for this game, just can't see any reason why they wouldn't beat Tyrone.Everything is different from 2 years ago and they should have their sights on an all Ireland final!!! Monaghan by 4

A huge game for Monaghan, I geniunely believe there is an All Ireland in this Monaghan team over the next 2 years. But Tyrone are the kind of team can put Monaghan football back, they should beat Tyrone but there is still an inferiorty complex amongst Monaghan people when it comes to Tyrone. This needs to change just as McGuinness targeted beating Tyrone on the start of the Donegal journey it is time Monaghan beat them in a big big game. There is no reason if the heads are right that Monaghan will not win by a few points but it will be some battle.

I cannot call it , I really can't . We played both and there's not much between our three sides . Monaghan are probably cuter than 2013 so it might help . I'll decide later in the week .

Watching Tyrone yesterday, they are becoming a growing threat. It wasn't the performance against Sligo or Indeed Tipperary or Meath, as that was just getting a job done in the Qualifiers. It is the fact Tyrone are starting to settle on a starting 15, and the Influence of Peter Harte, Mattie Donnelly, Sean Cavanagh and now Tiernan McCann is starting to shape Tyrone into a formidable side. Defensively they have Improved considerably, and their attacking play is superb.

This is a nightmare Quarter final draw for Monaghan, as Tyrone high press style can make Monaghan uncomfortable. Monaghan can of course beat them, but I would actually make Tyrone favourites for this game. Regardless, this will be an absorbing tie.

I think the extra game time Tyrone have enjoyed has benefited them greatly

They've been able to reassess and try to put things right

Harte has done a good job doing that...

I think Monaghans lack of serious game time will have an adverse affect on them

I think Tyrone will win this... they have the smarts and they have those games in their legs

Hats of to Tyrone... Shaping up very nicely

Monaghan have a great admiration & respect for Tyrone, BUT some people here seem to think they have "the Indian sign" over Monaghan & we are practically living in fear of them!..... I d'ont think so!...... We beat them in the Ulster Championship last year & gave them a right drubbing in the NFL up in Tyrone back in Spring!

Looking forward to this game... this is the game most Monaghan folk wanted !

You were lucky to win last year, Tyrone were the better side in fairness in that game. National League games mean absolutely nothing at the end of the day, especially games halted for long period due to a power cut if I remember correctly.

No Indian signs, Tyrone simply feel they are better than you and will have no Inhibitions.

As one diehard Tyrone gael told me last week "Monaghan have the perfect setup to beat Donegal in Ulster, patience and all that, but they'll never do anything down the road, too rigid and Inferior to the big guns in Croker. Donegal should have put them away in Clones, we'll finish the job in Croker".

A other few people from Tyrone I spoken to, believe last years Championship win was a fluke, and that business will resume next week.

God Gary it seems that anytime Monaghan are playing you love to tell us how we'll lose! I wouldn't be surprised to go back to the threads before we played Fermanagh and see you tip them up.

First off, our win against Tyrone was a lot closer than it should have been. We were comfortable enough going into the last ten minutes or so and the old nerves crept in as Tyrone added a few points, we really would've thrown that away if we didn't win. I would say after that win, any inferiority complex we had about Tyrone is well and truly gone. I'd agree to be honest that the league doesn't mean much when it comes to this time of year, but then why were you referencing Tyrone's league performances in the thread about them being contenders.

After watching Tyrone in the qualifiers there's nothing I'd be especially worried about, they'll be tough alright but the way some people are going on about them, you'd swear it was like their championship winning teams of the 00's. I don't see why the opinion of a biased Tyrone fan should concern me, I could tell you about how confident the average Monaghan fan is about this game but I doubt you'd care.

This year Monaghan have played 6 Ulster teams, in both Lge. & Chmshp with a 100% record.

In the last 3 years Monaghan have lost 2 out of 11 games v Ulster teams in the Chmpshp (including that controversial one against Tyr 2 years ago in CP).

I'm starting to get worried about the semi against Kerry.
They look to be on fire here.

Gary, that Tyrone fan has serious delusions of grandeur . Mentioning Tyrone and big guns in the same breath !! In the last five seasons how many Ulster championship games have Tyrone won ? Tyrone haven't been a big gun for a few seasons now . This season they performed well against Donegal and lost deservedly to a better team. They have regrouped in the qualifiers and beaten ............. Limerick, Meath, Tipperary and Sligo. Three Division Three teams and a very average Division Two team that lost to Westmeath . To say Monaghan were lucky last year against Tyrone is nonsense . They bossed that game until the last ten minutes . Tyrone look to be coming together nicely . However I would imagine that the likes of McCurry, McAliskey and Bradley will find the challenge a little more physical than they have up to this . This is a very good Monaghan team that gets no credit . I would think your Tyrone friend could be a little disappointed come Saturday evening .

Top post Greengrass

Tyrone are well behind Moaghan and Donegal. Tyrone will need to take all their chances - be totally disciplined and stop McManus if they are to win this one.

It will take a managerial change and a couple of years before Tyrone can compete at the top table again.

We don't believe in indian signs, voodoo or ant other s**t in Monaghan, any time Tyrone have beaten us was because they deserved it being the better team, except for once [the day the professional foul was invented ;)] Since that we have beaten them because we were the better team. I think we will win because we are that bit better and further on in our development. Monaghan don't fear anyone, why should they. Leave the voodoo s**t out of it lads

I think patk that all Tyrone fans are well aware that we aren't as good as our teams from the 00's, but the thing is neither are your lot, so maybe, for next Saturday anyway what we have may just be enough

I'm confused by that comment benched, I don't think there's many who would say we had a better team then. We didn't win anything for a start. We had a few good individual players who have since retired, but for me there's no argument that the current team is better. Stronger squad too, it's certainly the strongest group we've had since the 80's.

My comment about Tyrone not being as good as the 00's wasn't meant to be disrespectful, it's just a fact. That was probably one of the all time great teams, and they turned us over plenty, but time goes on and players retire. A few of that team still remains but there's alot of younger players coming in lately who obviously don't have that same experience in the big games, so I think we should have enough to win this.

Not too many experts think the winner of the all-Ireland will come from this pairing of which I agree. This may free some of the pressure from both teams unlike the Donegal v Mayo game where whichever team loses will probably be facing the end of the road. It should be a good old fashion championship match with massive pride on the line.
