I agree with my Meath colleagues here. Both Kildare and Meath have to get their act together. In fact as two counties with more clubs, bigger populations and better facilities generally than all other counties outside of Dublin - with the obvious exception of St. Conleth's Park and Pairc Tailteann, we have a responsibility to help make Leinster more competitive. Hats off to Longford who have showed in recent years what smaller counties can do with lesser resources and good structures.

In summary Kildare, Meath, Galway, Cork, Down etc punching below their weight whilst Monaghan, Longford, Fermanagh are punching above....

While indeed we've taken some notable scalps in the Qualifiers over the years, I can't remember the last time we won 2 rounds of the Leinster championship. However, we have indeed punched above our weight at Minor & U21.

That's a great record to have for Longford, testament to the great work that was done by Glenn Ryan and has been carried on by Jack Sheedy. They will more than fancy their chances against us on Saturday. Their minors are also in the Leinster final on Sunday and they reached a u21 Leinster final in 2013, for a small county there is certainly alot of work being done in Longford.

wouldnt say its due to the managers to be honest..sheedy has done poorly with longford while ryan should have done better considering the team had especially in the early years.....more to do with the players and the underage teams

It is all down to lack of funding in Kildare, we have great young lads coming through, but up until recently the Kildare senior team were working out in a shed near Straffan, now compare that to the facilities and resources available to a certain county in Leinster, and tell me how we are supposed to be competitive.

Sorry am I missing something here? I have nothing against Longford in fact I actually like the place and know a few sound people from there but their 10 year record isn't as good as ours nor will they overtake us if they win and we don't.

Genuinely have I missed something?

bryanadams is that a joke. Lack of funding. I would hazard a guess Kildare would have more than Longford, Donegal, Derry, Mayo and you hear no complaints.

No, that is serious, Kildare GAA are beyond broke, and we desperately need an injection of funding from Central finances, sport grants etc.

Now, on a positive note, I absolutely adore the ham produced by the Brady family, and it should be supported by lovers of ham sandwiches throughout the GAA family.

You are being disingenous here when you state that "until recently Kildare operated out out of a shed in Straffan". You know as well as the rest of us Kildare posters here that Kildare had a gym in the K Club in Straffan prior to the opening of Hawkfield and they have a gym in Newbridge now in addition to the Hawkfield facilities which are top class. It's is amazing how language can be used to decieve. There is a world of difference between a fully equipped Gym in the exclusive K Club in Straffan and a "shed in Straffan".

The fact Kildare GAA needed a bail out confirms my point. As the Greece of Gaelic games, austerity is the name of the game in Kildare GAA.

Nope,as someone who knows the K Club well, I can assure you that Kildare GAA did not have access to the GYM or facilities of that fine establishment.

The "Gym" Kildare had access to in the grounds, was basically a large shed with no toilet or shower facilities apart from a rented portaloo type thing, and the players set up some basic gym equipment themselves.

We are skint as they say in these parts.
