Kerry V Cork

Great win for the Juniors last night, hope the minors and seniors can follow suit on Sunday.

I havn't heard much about the Tipperary minors this year. Anyone know how good they are? I doubt Kerry will underestimate them considering they have taken our scalp quiet a few times at that level over the past few years.

No news yet of when Fitzmaurice is naming his side. As usual it will make for an interesting reading. Surely a fit again David Moran will partner Maher in the centre but he will have to find a place for Sheehan on the 40 with either M. Geaney or Buckley losing out.

The other big questions are whether JOD will be started in the full forwards with Star and P Geaney and what will Fitzmaurice do to shore up our defence. Its our Achilles heel at the moment, we had the worst concession rate in the League and Tipperary put 2 past us and had chances to add more.

If we allow forwards of the quality of Donnacha O'Connor, Brian Hurley and Colm O'Neil that same space, it will be a long afternoon in Killarney for the Kerrymen. Cork's best assest is their full forward line and they possess one of the best full forward units in the country. Cork have to find a way to bring those three into the game more.

Interestingly enough despite their forward talent, Cork have only managed to score only one goal in matches with Kerry in the last ten years and in the previous two meetings they have not registered a major at all.

You feel getting goals will be critical if Cork are to win this.

Think Kerry will have too much up front for Cork. It will be tight up until 50 minutes or so but goals should do it for Kerry. Cork will have to have an out of their skin performance to win this one I feel, but there are ever improving and I think next year might be there year.

I think its going to be a tough day on Sunday don't get me wrong im confident we will put it up to kerry, but to actually beat them well I'm more hopeful than confident.kerry are kerry and probably have a little more cutism than cork that with the killarney factor kerry by 3 or 4

Can't really see it happening, given Cork's poor record in Killarney and the strength in depth that Kerry have. Cork also have a reputation for being brittle in recent seasons, so they would really need to exorcise those demons if they are to go anywhere this season. Kerry by 5-6 points.

This will be a tight affair. I still fancy kerry to win but it wont be like last year.
Cuthbert know his future as Cork boss depends on the next few games.
Go down without a whimper and he is more or less out the door

Have to agree with poster recalling last years hype that Kerry were done prior to the Munster Final and look what happened. Cork will respond on Sunday, Tomas did Kerry no favors with his comments, any fuel on the fire is helpful. Put yourselves in Cork's shoes, you are going to Killarney, most people have given you no chance to beat the defending Munster and All Ireland Champions, the stage is set for Cork to upset the odds. But can they really beat this Kerry side?

I can see this one going to the wire or ending level. Many a Cork team have travelled to Killarney with no chance and came up with the goods.
Both sides have been pretty average all year and not shown their hand.
It's hard to really say who are good and who are bad but a lot of players will be found out on Sunday.
The key for me is the Cork full back line how will they contain the Kerry forward line. If they can tighten up there could be turn into quite a game.

Cork have no midfield and I'm not sure Cuthbert is cute enough tatically to counteract the Kerry forwards, so Kerry by 5-10 points in my opinion ~PHS

Could be better than anything we've seen in the other provinces so far to be fair.

The thing is that both teams conceded a lot of scores in the league, Cork weren't really missing anyone throughout the league, whereas Kerry had a lot of absentees.

Against Clare, missing 5 out of 6 starting forwards from last year, Cork conceded 1-8 which looks good until you remember the 3/4 goal chances Clare missed and their wide tally of 12. Basically Clare's finishing let them down.

In the final they conceded 1-21 against Dublin
In the semi they conceded 0-19 against Donegal
In the 7 regular league games Cork conceded 7-90

Last year in the championship their conceded
1-11 against Tipperary
0-24 against Kerry
1-11 against Sligo
1-19 against Mayo

That was a total of 3-65 conceded in the 2014 championship.

In the league semi-final against Dublin they conceded 2-20
In the 7 regular league games they 9-97

Overall they have conceded 23-320 in the 22 games of Cuthbert's reign. That's an average of 17.68 points per game.

What stands out is the three games against non-Divison 1 opposition.
Take the 1-8 against Clare, the 1-11 against Tipp and the 1-11 against Sligo out of the mix

That leaves Cork with a total of 20-290 conceded in 19 games against Division 1 opposition in the last 2 years for an average of 18.42 ppg. If you look at the 2 Division 1 teams they have played in the championship in that time period they conceded 0-24 and 1-19 for an average of 23 points. That's only a small sample but the fact that the total in the Kerry game were they had a massive collapse was only 2 points more than their "good" performance of the Mayo game has to be a cause for concern. Basically Cork have serious problem keeping the score down against pretty much all of the top teams.

You look at how much the Cork defence have condeded in every game under Cuthbert and it's very hard to see Cork making any sort of real impact on the championship.

People talk about Cork's collapses against Dublin and Kerry recently - the thing is that it might be argued the "collapses" were more their defence had a slightly worst day their usual and their attack had off days.

Against Kerry unless the Cork defence has an exceptional day, or their forwards have an exceptional day or Kerry's forwards have an exceptional poor day it's very hard to see them getting the victory.

I expect Cork to put in a good performance and i think Cork +3 at evens is good value. David Moran could be the difference against a Cork midfield made up of Cadogan who is an out and out defender and Alan O Connor who is only back in the panel since May. Hurley is a threat up front for Cork.. Kerry's defense is their weakness for me but I expect them to get over the line in a close encounter as they will win mf and have the quality upfront to make it count

A lot has to do with Kerry's mental strength cause on paper they are an ok team nothing compared to the team of the 00's but yet can still win big games and that's a credit to them but if Cork can get there defence right don't be surprised to see them win any team with the fire power Cork have can destroy a team on any given day and they owe there people a big one Sunday , this Kerry team is there for the taken they've rode there luck eventually they'll get caught Sunday could be the day.

The closer I get to this game, the more uncertain I am of who is going to win it. possibly a draw?? That would not suit either team. All pie in the sky talk, but I truly can only see a kick of a ball between the teams at the weekend. Should be a great game. Looking forward to it no end.

When ? What time frame ? In the 90s we won an AI , played in three national league finals . In 02, we reched Q final , 03 we reached semi final and in 04 we beat the current AI champions Tyrone . We also won the league in 07 . We hammered Tipp in 02 or 03. You must be alluding to the 40s or something.

Kerry and Cork is it in Munster, its a hurling province whereby you play one difficult match to reach the last 8 or 4. That wont ever change.

i don't agree with the original post saying we would have hammered ye in times gone by or whatever it was but you're wrong on the account of donegal hammering us in 03, at the final whistle the score was sizable enough but if memory serves me right the teams were level with 10 or so minutes to go. Declan browne gave an exhibition the same day.
