Yes and how many did you score against Monaghan in Letterkenny? Did you go to that game and pay in? Nuff said.

Of course it's all Dublin's fault for not being able to score against the fleet of buses parked in front of the goal. Donegal didn't do so well against it Letterkenny boys so I wouldn't be slinging too much mud at the Dubs on that one.

Anyway, we won that's all that matters now.

No arguments about the Monaghan game, it was a terrible performance & you get no argument from me about that & I for one slung no mud against Dublin.

As you say yourself joxer, you won and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

On my way out the door now to the Donegal Tyrone game. I'm not anticipating a free flowing game but I do expect a full blooded, fully committed, entertaining game.

I'm just going to refer back to the blog post I wrote almost 2 years ago now every time this discussion comes up:

[url=]http://bigsportingblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/game-theory-and-gaelic-football.html

As for what can solve it - I think reducing the number of players to 13 might need looked at.

Whether it needs changing is a different argument - it was a night of bad weather and Derry were bottom of the table, low in confidence and desperate to scrap for a chance at the 2 points. They were never going to beat Dublin by playing open attacking football. In all sports you will see teams at the bottom of the table adopt defensive setups in order to frustrate the opposition first and foremost and try to build some confidence from there.

No booing here att Pairc Ui Rinn. Mayo showing us how to play football, keeping Cork scoreless for 30 mins. All square at HT. What a game of football. Mayo putting in the hits and Cork do like it!

Uibhfailli, not every game is like this. Some teams use these tactics more than others at present.Im sure this mass defense trend will eventually run its course and be consigned to Room 101,but until then i personnally dont get worked up about it.Not asthetically pleasing no doubt, but its up to other teams to conbat and beat it.

Not every game is like last night but far too high a percentage of games are defensive dog fight with little free flowing exciting football being played which is what most fans want to see.

I personally don't think it is a trend as this type of football started about 10 years ago and has gradually become so commonplace that a 12 man defence is now standard practice at all levels of the game. The blanket defence as a tactic works and as long as it works coaches will use it.

The number one aim of Intercounty football in my opinion is entertainment and the GAA should be ensuring the game is as entertaining as it can be.Other sports have improved their games by making rule changes the GAA should be doing it aswell.

So teams adopt the blanket because they know they can't live with Dublin and ship massive scores in Croke Park. I believe that was Gilroy's thought process also. Why the outrage now? This narrative being so clumsily sewn by the Dublin footballing purists who feel they are currently being dragged down by outside negative forces is so hypocritical it's laughable.

Weak officiating is the root cause of defensive tactics successful emergence.

Dublin Tyrone in the league was the perfect example. Dublin player runs into a swarm of Tyrone bodies. 5 players assault him/tackle him. He gets dispossessed.

Tyrone go down the pitch, a Tyrone boy goes one v one with a Dublin back. On first contact, throws himself to the ground and gets a free.

If 5 players surround a player and are all slapping him, how is this not a free?

As I said, weak officials help blanket defences.

what i alwas find funny is the adverse reactions to league games
when we have a good game or a team plays really well or a big team looses
media and posters alike always class it as "a sure was only the league no need to overreact"
yet when you have a poor game the media and posters go into overdrive and we get stuff like
jarlt burns calling it the death of gaelic football
where is the "a sure its only the league" reaction now haha

what are you on a bout doublehop?
dublin were too defensive in the first half last night nobody on this eart could disagree
but in the second half they dominated the half
and won 6v1 despite the conditions become far worse with sheeting rain and wind
they set up completly different in second half with six forwards and played attacking football

Doublehop it's not about who started it or they use to do it or they do it now it's about the future of our game right now how can you not see this? It's going down the drain it's rotten to the core and every team is at it including Dublin in '11 please open your eyes and stop with the "they did it before crack" , you honestly think supporters will keep paying money to go watch that football? Again this is not an attack on Derry there just doing what everyone else is at, it is more important than ever that rules are brought in to save our game cause the black card rule has done nothing to improve it IMO.

Miler Cork don't mind it either. Cuthbert's Cork not like Counihan's Cork. Similar quality group of players but they have a real steel about them, mentally and physically. Sure we only squeaked past them in the quarter finals last August. There were signs there already of a Cork team that will fight til the final whistle where under previous management I don't think that was the case in every game. I expect them to go far in the championship. Fair play to them on their win today.

People unhappy with the terrible fare on offer in Croke Park last night should be in Ballybofey.
That first half of open attacking football would restore your faith in the game.

Ill sumarise what Ive posted on Dubs page , basically Ive slated my own team for playing their part in a piosionous disgusting torrid excuse for a game , and as Ive said if playing that defensive type of Shi7 is the only way to win , I couldnt give a crap if we never won again ,
The Emperor is dead naked , wake up and smell the coffee , our game is sick .
Who started it is irrelevant , fact is last night wouldnt encourage any kid to take the game up . Important to note nobody is breaking any rules etc .
For anyone to defend last night its just mind boggling . Not that it was much consolation , but I walked out of HQ and turned to my son and said could be worse , he looked at me wide eyed having listened to me for an hour , and said how on earth Dad it it be worse , I said we could be Derry fans .

I booed , at half time , only I know what I was booing , as a lover of the game I wasnt booing any individual , I wasnt even booing Derry I was venting my complete and utter frustration at what Id just witnessed . Players do what there told by coaches and I have nothig but respect for all they put into our game , but people have to make a stand this crap being served is not entertaining , its not exciting , in comparision to last weeks rugby affair which game would you get your kid involved in ? Basing the two weekends back to back , thank god for the Kilkenny Clare game just took watching that to kick me out of my misery .
