Dublin to win. Mayo got another financial deal for mac hale park to let the dubs win. Can you imagine dubs not been in league semi finals, think of all the lost revenue gaa corporate machine.

Probably one of the most ridiculous comments I've read on this forum so far.

Athcliath, Id say it will have a fair few regulars in it, but my honest opinion is they will have trained hard this week and not really prioritised this game, because they are as good as safe in D1. If Dublin play well they should win it.

TheMaster - I don't know....look at that table. If we loose against Dublin and Cork away which is quiet possible then we could fine ourselves needing a result in the final game at home to Donegal to be 100% sure of safety. In the league teams will always target home games as the ones you set out to win.

Very hard game to call. Castlebar isn't an easy place to go though Tyrone have shown this year that Mayo can be turned over there. However, Dublin have a lot more to play for in this game than Mayo do and you would think that this should have a bearing on the intensity of the match and the outcome. It could turn out to be a bit of a tempestuous affair and although I won't be surprised if the game ended up a draw I will stick my neck out, probably upset the wife, and say Dublin to win.

An interesting but silly comment, by a previous poster, about Dublin being 'given' a game against Mayo to fill Croker for the league semi's based on revenue generated from their supporters. 15 Mayo players do not care about the pockets of headquarters, they will want to impress management for selection in the not too distant Championship.

As for the game, the key is who Mayo will have and who will Dublin start/end with. I personally think Dublin will win by two - three points. Mayo have used 'squad' players consistently through the league so far and have been good but may lack the firepower/experience for Dublin 'IF' O'Connor is out. Which is exactly what happened against Tyrone in MacHale Park a few weeks back. It is at home BUT with Dublin starting to re-introduce their main attacking threats (Brogan, Connolly, Flynn & Cluxton), they will be hard to beat even against an in-form Mayo team.

A Mayo win would be a huge result mentally for us if players are to believe they can go on to win a league title and build that winning mentality needed to succeed in an AIF. Winning a league may not be a priority for this Mayo management but this team needs a 'big' win mentally to keep them going after a series of near misses over the last four years and a league title is the only thing that can give them that winning mentality.

Safety is NOT good enough if this Mayo team have aspirations of winning in the late summer months but perhaps this should be a separate forum.

I hope we can do it but with Cluxton back in goals and Flynn/Connolly linking the play for Dublin, head over heart, it's Dubs by 3 for me.

I can't see Dublin winning with the forward selection currently being put out. Too many players under performing due to form, fitness and positioning. A fit Paul Flynn and Connolly would change the dynamic and a fit O Sullivan, Brennan and McCarthy would improve the linkage between the backs and forwards which has been awful to date.

Mayo on their home turf are a tough prospect the best of times, even more so when your forwards are struggling. A win would be most welcome but Ill doubt a positive outcome until I see what team takes to the field.

A loss here would put division 2 firmly on our horizon so I'd expect the strongest available team to play. I've backed Gavin's approach to the league to date but I think it's well known at this stage what new players are up to it and who are not.

I see no reason to hold off again from here on in. The semi finals don't look good for Dublin this year and some meaningful game time for the regulars and new lads would be nice to see.

Very strange to see Mayo fans having so little faith in their team considering their outstanding record of defeating Dublin in Castlebar

Dublin are by no means world beaters at present and Mayo are in a very good pre-season form

Honestly don't see where Mayo fans are getting this pessimism from...

If Dublin enjoyed such stats against Mayo.. I'd happily make Dublin favs for this game... honestly why wouldn't ye...

Jimbo, we are quaking in our boots, just like everyone else was last year, when all ye had to do was turn up in hq to win.

@jimbodub

If the Mayo forward line features: Doherty,AOS,McLoughlin,COC,Freeman,Ronaldson/Sweeney then I would strongly fancy Mayo but with a few injuries, they "look like" they will lack firepower up front, I may be wrong. We will know more come the day and the team's have been announced.

However, without Dillon, Moran, Conroy and O'Connor, what Mayo supporter wouldn't be cautious/pessimistic against a Dublin team arriving to Castlebar badly needing a win.

Very surprised they let Enda Varley off the panel good impact sub IMO, big game for Dublin im very confident of getting the win if he picks a strong team, but more than anything I'm looking forward to a proper game of football.

In their two home games Mayo have scored 4-22 (34) and conceded 1-22 (25).
In their two away games Dublin have scored 1-26 (29) and conceded 1-30 (33).
Mayo have won one at home and lost one.
Dublin have lost two on the road.

Weather forecast for McHale Park @ 7pm on Saturday evening is dry with winds of 10mph getting up to 19mph in the gusts, blowing from East South East (bit diagonal so aiming for the right hand post when shooting in to the Charlestown end of the ptich). Temperature around 5 degrees but feeling closer to zero so wrap up warm and bring your hats, scarves, thermals and put on an extra pair of socks.

Conclusion:
Antrim to beat Waterford by 3.

I see this as a game that Mayo under new Management will want to win,to put down a marker,This new management team with All Ireland aspirations have already lost at home and really dont need the Dubs beating them. Granted your decent start keeps any pressure off but a bad defeat would change that. lts also a game we need to win and i think Gavin will play blend of youth and whatever experienced guys are fit. I hope we are nearer a championship 15 with possibly a young midfield . This going to be a very tough game for us , but a game im really looking forward too.

There is pressure on us to put in a good performace after 2 poor games. Lose and we are looking at relegation in the face . But thats easily the way it could pan out.
A lot will depend on the teams that line out.

Mayo's start to the season has been solid but Kerry were in holiday mode when they beat them, Monaghan had two sent off and Derry are bottom of the table. The performance against Tyrone was fairly painful viewing as well. So while there's reason for Mayo fans to be cautiously optimistic there's no reason to make them heavy favourites for Saturday night. I'd have them marginal favourites based on, as you've pointed out, their strong record in MacHale Park.
