NFL Division 2

Realistically Kildare probably need to win 2 of their remaining 3 games. They have Roscommon at home next Sunday followed by away trips to Laois and Galway. After this weekend I feel they have a really good chance against the Rossies next Sunday. Laois will be up after that and it will be a do or die for both teams. The trip to Galway is not an impossibility but is probably their hardest test. Given how close this division is all teams can and will be beaten in the remaining fixtures. I just feel Kildare have that little bit more class and should have enough to stay up, but it will be close.

A home win for Kildare next weekend against Roscommon will put Kildare in a favourable position to avoid relegatiom. The way things are going in this Division relegation will be decided on the last day. A lot of football to be played yet. So Kildare are far from doomed at this stage I think that the top end of the table is clearer in that it looks like a 3 way battle between Down Galway and Meath for promotion. If Meath beat Down they should get promoted along with Galway.

Lillywhite1 i think you are spot on, and ill go even further and say there is no chance of Kildare getting relegated, i think they will beat Roscommon next week and if Meath beat Laois that will leave the drop Imo between Roscommon Laois and Cavan with the outside chance of Westmeath been dragged into it but like yourselves i think they will be safe. At the top its a 3 way battle, Galway would have done us a favor today but it didn't happen now its up to us, the Meath Down game decides who goes up with Galway Imo

Malone. Ahead of Meath but Meath have game in hand, the winner of Meath Down will decide who goes up.

After looking at the table just now 1 thing struck me Westmeath are top after beating 2 leinster sides and the 3 remaining leinster sides are at the bottom having only 2 points between them and that was from Meath beating a leinster side.
So they may all struggle when faced with other provinces teams.
However Meaths new found love of 10 backs should make sure they keep the scores down when they are getting beaten maybe just saving them from the drop.

Yeah Laois really struggled against their Conmacht opposition today.

Might but might not RD, the way this league is going it wouldn't suprise me to see Down, Galway or Meath drop points elsewhere. Westmeath will be looking for a response at home to Down next weekend and could make it difficult for them. Imperative that we go to Newry though with full points from Laois & Roscommon games. I have a feeling nothing will be resolved up or down until the final day.

One good display against Down did not make us world beaters and neither will one poor display against Laois make us losers, the Rossies will win their 2 home games against Galway and Meath and may get something out of one of the other 2 games, Ros are one point behind Gal and Mth and rd is relegating us, the team were poor today but will learn from that game, could not get going and were second to most balls, they will know what they have to do.

Giveballaghback. IM not relegating you, what i am saying is that if both Meath and Galway win in Hyde then you are in trouble, two very big games in particular when considering that most teams would see Laois as a game they should win.
Richeiq totally agree, i feel we will win both those games and the trip to Newry will be vital, i actually don't think any team will not drop more points.

What I mean is Kildare will go down because they never seem up for a fight which is what it will take to stay in division 2. There are some fine players in Kildare but you need to breed a few more nasty fellas otherwise you will always be spectacular failures. Just my opinion from an outsider looking in.

For the first time in a long time Kildare looked up for the fight last night. They gave it back to Cavan with interest. Return of Bolton, Flynn and Paul Cribbin a big help in that regard. Win the next two and we should be ok.

We were unlucky in Newry today. Missed goal chances that our forwards normally would tuck away but credit to Down for their fighting spirit. Always thought this would be our toughest away game and with 3 of our last 4 games at home still in the promotion hunt. Momentum is everything and both Down and Meath have this. If we win our next two games (both at home) we should have the Corofin contingent back for the trip to the Hyde on March 29th. Whoever gets 5 wins should go up and probably between 3 teams for the two spots although would not rule out Westmeath if they beat Down home next wend.

I got it spot on over on the prediction thread about Laois v Roscommon yet has any rossies quoted me yet?

Hard to see the rossies staying up now and neighbours Westmeath will likely relegated them in the final round. Down,Galway for promotion I reckon with Meath to just miss out maybe even on a head to head with Galway.

Great fighting spirit and guts from the Mourne men yesterday.
Looked in real trouble in the first twenty minutes, excellent
in the second half, especially in the final fifteen minutes
when the game was in the melting pot.

Paul Devlin,take a bow,deadly free taker.Also Stephen Kane
in goals had a great game.

Was glad to see Danny Cummins subbed. Was a thorn in the side
of Ryan Boyle all day.

Hopefully good chance of promotion now but a tough trip
to Mullingar next.

I'm reading that Galway should have beaten Down....Laois at home is a must win now ....

Speaking of LAOIS I was in o moore park yesterday ...They were superb against a highly fancied and talented Roscommon side ...

For a county that is in limbo with up to 12 players leaving the panel they still have some fine talent especially in the forwards

Great Roscommon support yesterday

I was at the Mayo v derry game yesterday and heard some mayo fan saying it was level and only 20 mins gone. I was like roscommon will bring a great performance to Laois in the 2nd half. I know a lot of roscommon fans took the trip down to Portlaoise when ROSCOMMON seniors played there in the championship in 2003, It be highly anticipated game to look forward to :) because i knew laois were on 0 points . both roscommon and laois game were cancelled last weekend with the weather. But when I heard Laois won i coundt believe it I thought Roscommon would be convenience winners but it was the other way around Laois were the winners. I thought roscommon would have been able to push on after they had good win against down and then cavan loosing saturday night , i thought it push them on but it didnt.

Roscommon will have to dig deep in the last few matches of the league to remain there spot in division 2 next year :) . roscommon will put up a good fight against meath no doubt. I hope so.

I knw its always hard getting out of the laois grounds but its odd to think roscommon had alot of u21 players on this team like they werent short on selection of players be different if they were but were not :) .

lets hope roscommon push on for there next game and keep there spot for division 2 next year.

Steady on! It was a disappointing result for Roscommon but Laois to be fair to them were good. They played like lads who knew what was at stake. While some Roscommon fans as well as many outsiders may have gotten a wee bit ahead of themselves after the great win in Newry, relegation is not the given you seem to think it is. There isn't a huge amount between any of the sides in the division. The table is very tight.

i agree it's tight as a duck's xxx in a sandstorm. Galway and Roscommon need to play as if they are trying to avoid the drop

Extremely tight now especially after today's results . Kildare could be in trouble ...Laois next for them may be tricky .
