Laois need roscommon to beat westmeath and Galway to beat kildare. Otherwise we will have to win ourselves. If we do win Galway would still go down if they lost and ross would be promoted if they won, so our western friends have plenty of incentive .

Westmeath in Mullingar wont be easy, and with possible survival at stake id be backing them to get a result, depends on what Laois and down teams turn up v

Fair to say that Galway would've been promoted if they'd had their Corofin lads?

No not a guarantee at all in my opinion and at any rate Galway football should be able to prosper without the influence of players from one club

Those are the rules. We must accept them we drew a game we had complete control of and we gifted a win to Roscommon, we really should be experimental next week with promotion already secured, unfortunately its all our own doing, Down are a better yet we could beat them .
If we don't get promoted its not cause of gaa rules its cause we didn't win games we were the better team, in short we are masters of our own undoing.

Can you imagine the fun if Galway win, down get beat Meath and Cavan draw and Roscommon draw. All on 8pts. Fun

richieq you make a fair point although in our defence missing at least 4 corofin starters and tom flynn is 1/3 of our first team. not easy to replace but ultimately our performances against cavan and laois was not good enough.

Suit us fine RD, we go up on score difference, I have a funny feeling, just a feeling mind, that the Gods are going to smile on us next Sunday, I have no real justification in thinking that but I do, we shall see......

It really has been a crazy division. So hard to predict results. One interesting stat is that laois have scored seven goals, and conceded just two ( both scored by opposition half backs) . So there's a very good chance we could be relegated without conceding a goal to an opposing forward.

Not as exciting a day in store if it's decided on points difference, Cavan would need to win by 6 in Navan which is a long shot!

Why would they have ever needed to do that. If they beat Meath they would be on 9 points and Meath would still be on 7. We would just need to keep ahead of Roscommon on points diff as the to head v the rossies would not seperate us.

To be honest lads, it has been a very poor division 2 and whoever does go up next week will more than likely go straight back down next year.

Down are all out attacking team and with promotion in sight they might take the eye off the ball on Saturday night. Meath will frustrate Down with their defensive blanket defence tactics and will look to catch their opponents on the break. A shock away win is possibility.

--------------------
Was spot on and my betting account is a good few dollars more now :)

Watched the full match last night, Down didn't know what to do against the Meath blanket as they were forced to shoot from distance which they couldn't do and were crowded out by a packed defence. The game was still in the balance until Meath got their break away goal Menton allowed to run through unchallenged which was the type of defending Meath were doing before they change their tactics

I am happy for Mick O Dowd he chose to go with defensive football after the Galway game if they were relegated playing like that the Meath supporters would have given him a torrid time but its Meath playing to their strengths now and they still have a outside chance of promotion which is really remarkable however it would be blessing in disguise if they miss out.

For the record is head to head if two teams have the same number of points and scoring difference if three teams finish level.

To be honest it's been a pretty poor Division 1 as well as perfectly highlighted by last nights utter travesty in Croke Park so I don't think whoever gets promoted should worry at all

in all honestly I think meath would fair better in division 1 than Roscommon would. most teams in division 1 would have no respect for Roscommon but would have a bit more respect for meath. we would have no fear of the division 1 teams and we have been knocking at the door of division 1 football for longer than Roscommon have.

why would teams fear meath?...its about the quality of the team you have..what meath did in the 90s and 80s has 0 bearing on anything...dublin sure looked like they feared meath in the leinster final last year

meathalltheway you were div 3 team in 2013 and 2011 you somehow managed to avoid relegation to div 3 with just 3 points. Meath of the late 80s mid 90s held plenty of fear however this current Meath team would hold no fear to Kerry,Mayo,Dublin,Cork. A win for Cavan could be enough promotion and they won in Navan two years ago.

Jesus meathalltheway will ye ever beat cavan first and then worry about going up
We arent worried about Meath our faith is in our own hands yers is reliant on yourselves and others.;
But please show a bit of respect to Cavan and the other teams half Meaths problem is they think they are something they are not.

From I've seen this year no team in Div 2 will last long in Div 1. The standard has been fairly poor and very difficult to imagine any of them winning more than 2 games at most. For what it's worth I think Kildare are a mid table Div 2 at the moment and probably would be safe now only for that silly loss to Down in the first game. At least it makes for a very interesting final day of action.
