Well said Castlebravo. I completely agree.

If the international rules needs saving then throw it a concrete block. Surely that'll finish it off once and for all. Nobody cares.

I may be in the minority, but I always enjoy the IRS. It's not often that you get to see some of the best players in the country playing on the same team. Plus it gives lads from the smaller counties a chance to be in the spotlight. Look at Leighton Glynn, was arguably the MVP over the last few series. Sure, it's lost some of it's allure given the hammerings over the last few years, but I still get a buzz watching the series, especially when it's out in Oz ~ PHS

Mickey Harte was among the most vocal in his attitude to the IRS but at least he gave a reason, that he would prefer to see Gaelic football itself being spread instead of the hybrid. I think we can have both.

I do wonder about so called GAA fans. Here is one last chance to see elite GAA players in action before the year is out. In a big stadium, with a decent crowd. Playing not just to represent the country but the association and the sport itself. Stop moaning. Like CB said it doesn't effect you if your not interested in it.
Its usually the same attitude towards the Railway Cup, kill it off, no one likes it etc etc. Why kill off competitions?
The more the better if you ask me. Looking forward to my additional GAA treat on Sat morning.

I like the idea of it being played in London or New York. Playing it once very three years may also increase the demand for the product. I think the Railway cups may have a future if they were played abroad as well (every second or third year). They are probably the only competitive games that we would not miss if they were taken away (judging by the crowds that attend here). Have the railway cup abroad instead of the All-star tour (the All-stars would surely be good enough for their provincial teams?)

The game this weekend will likely decide if it has a future. A strong Australian Squad so should be a good game.

I would imagine, for those of us who have no interest in this nonsense game,it wont affect any of us in the least. As this thread was about the game we are entitled to voice our opinion as much as the supporters of it.Enjoy the game lads.

The idea of playing the Railway Cup games abroad is a terrific one. That would certainly reinvigorate the games and put bums on seats.Definately worth a look at.

you cannot possibly be a sports fan and not want to see a game like this. Anyone I know who is interested in sport would be interested in this. Of course it is never likey to take off as a seperate sport but as a one-off game or a best of 3 series it is great. why would you not want to see our Irish GAA players playing against a bunch of professional sportsmen. personally , I would love to see a game between GAA and soccer players, lets say the gaa allstars (11 of them :)) v a league of ireland 11. play the whole game as soccer with no offside.

I agree with s goldrick, I bet half the people on here complaining about the IRS end up watching it anyway. These games provide the world with an insight to how our 'amatuer' game can hold its own against professional athletes and should be viewed as a great advertisement to what we are as an organisation. As for the Railway Cup, if ever a competition needed a PR compaign is this one. With the amount of provincial tribalism on these forums you'd expect all three games to give HQ a full house every time. I do like the idea of London or New York as a venue as well, it would show our games played by the best and gives elite players from smaller counties the chance to express their abilities in front of large crowds. Why would we want rid of all this??!

Now that the club finals are going to be moved, the railway cup finals should be put back to St Patricks weekend (semis the Sunday before).

Each province select their own allstars and those players play railway cup matches (subs are allstars from previous year).

Winners of Railway cup supply 50% of International rules squad (topped up with rules "specialists"). Cry offs due to work and club commitments will ensure not many of the railway cup winners are disappointed on missing a chance to play for their country.

I think both competitions are worth while but have to find a definitive format, place in the calendar, and be marketed properly.

I would really like to see the railway cup played after the provincial finals (like an NBA allstar weekend) before the all ireland series starts but county managers wouldn't like that one.

Another good idea to play the Railway Cup games on St Patricks day,if club finals are moved. The attendance,or lack of would be a problem though.

I like it. Play the railway cup hurling next year (no football). Play the football the year after. The players that are involved here plus the specialist as you call them to be on the IRS.

Lot of tourists around Dublin on St Patricks Weekend. I'm sure they would watch the railway cup if it was marketed properly.
