Kerry tactics at the end of extra time

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Dublin will beat Kerry in the final. In fact, Dublin would beat the pick of Mayo Kerry and Donegal. Donegal haven't a hope and Kerry will need another ref like they had today if they are to have a chance.

What was that you were saying there lad??

Donegal are fully deserved favourites right now. Egg on your face however for not waiting to see if the capital would make the final first.

Legendzxix, don't be pulling the "yerra, yerra, shur Donegal will be favourites" shtick already, Kerry will be bookies' favourites for the final, guaranteed.

@ ballydalane - I wish we were but not in a million years.

As Jack O'Connor said after our defeat to Donegal in '12, they had our measure. We seem to have improved a little since then but we are still very much a team in transition. Donegal on the otherhand are either at or even above their level of '12. I was one of the few who said Donegal would win today. I even called the Kerry win after extra time. Ah look, we are where we are. We are aware of it. It's good to have the final to look forward to anyways. Any team looking to win an All-Ireland obviously have to be in the final to give themselves some chance.

Donegal favourites with all bookies at about 4/6 or 8/13, Kerry 7/4.

Those odd sounds about right, the ref won the match for Kerry yesterday, they shouldn't be in the All Ireland final.

Kerry were the better team overall.

Correct Treaty_Exile, Kerry were the better side. Kept going and were stronger at the end. Brolly made some very valid points about Mayo coming up short constantly over the last few years. There's always a reason..

The final will be interesting. Though early on today that Dublin would win by a street but the Boys from Donegal are made of serious stuff!

Can Kerry beat a northern team in the final?

I'm surprised at that, I thought they'd make Kerry favourites for sure. Ah well, Kerry fans can genuinely claim to be underdogs this time!

They were the better team in the last 10 mins of extra time, but were not the better team up to that point. Every neutral watching that match saw the non frees they got up that point

kerry were the better team..donaghy got some soft frees but also lots of frees were not given to him which should have been..dominated mayo at midfield and if not for a goal keeper mistake probably would have won in normal time..also won the game with o donoghue not being able to move with 5 mins to go and extra time

Who got the point in second half of injury time coming in from main stand of the City end? He held off two Mayo defenders and slotted it. The reason we go to games is to see magnificent, game-winning, scores like that. Fair play to that man. I think he was a sub?

Yerra, ya, 100% correct there County Man. Sure when did we ever really deserve to be in a final. Sure in the annals of GAA history yesterday's game will quickly be forgotten don't you know for any game to qualify for being a classic GAA match the first rule is it has to be one Kerry lost!

Check the history books there lad, we've done it plenty of times in last 100 years although that uncomfortable fact seems to escape some people.

Not talking about other years hermit, Kerry obviously had great teams down through the years, but they didn't deserve to win yesterday. You're looking at it through Kerry's eyes, that is understandable, but Mayo were the better team.

Kerry deserved to win. Should have a cracking final now.

Kerry's tactics were excellent and they outsmarted Mayo. Better bench to bring on and all their subs made an impact.

Mayo having a man sent off in each of the games just shows how frustrated they were and each offence was for kicking / attempted kicking.

Kerry's tactic in last few mins of extra time was to retain possession and try to stop Mayo from scoring a goal when they didn't have possession. Worked pretty well unfortunately. Well done to both teams. 2 great games. Row at end was non event really. Silly from both teams but stupid from Mayo 2 get involved as we were 3 points down at time.

Would agree that Kerry were the better team, but wouldnt agree with the rest of it. Donaghy was fouling as often as he was being fouled and he never got called once for it. If a defender was wrestling him into the position he wanted him in then it would be a free in all day long. As for the keeper making a mistake, well surely if you take away A) the stroke of luck for the first Kerry goal, B) the first penalty where the Kerry lad came a mile in over the sideline C) and one of the soft frees/playing advantage then taking it back after he missed the kick, then in the same fashion mayo would have won? Im not complaining either, you win some you lose some, Im just highlighting how unbalanced your point is. As for deserving to win, yes Kerry were the better team, but deserving to win doesn't always mean you actually win.

people were saying that kerry were naive when they let dublins kevin mc menaman run through their defence to score in the 2011 final without pulling him down, kerry did what most teams would do in those last few seconds to win. mayo would have done the same given the chance. rumours going around that connacht rugby after signing the mayo fan that entered the field near the end!!! looking forward to a good final.
