Kilkenny Vs Tipperary AIHF 2014

Great calls from umpire , ref made some terrible decisions but over all let the game flow, it was played at some pace and he did ok to keep up with it. Reid for me has to get hurler of the year , he was outstanding today . To close to call the next day , once again the clash of the ash delivers .

Tremendous game and both teams deserve a second chance. It was exciting, skillful, passionate and a credit to the two counties and GAA. The GAA will make 3 million Euro+ from the replay and surely in such circumstances a one off payment of say 10000 Euro to each squad member would be justified? The referee made some bad calls especially with the penalties; the fouls were originally outside the box and were not penalties.
That would be great but would such a payment be justifiable?

What about Management?
And why start now? Why not start in the draw game in 2012, Kilkenny and Galway?
They, in such a scenario would/should get something.
You would start now as players deserve it and you wouldn't go back in time as when do you stop going back in time to award players such financial benefits

And where the hell does that end?

Can we not just rejoice in a great, great game without starting on with this nonsense.

Greatest game I have seen, a team scoring 1-28 and not winning ????!!!!! Ref did a good job and got both penalties right. Tipp should have put the first one over the bar....

Those players should be paid !!!!

The men of Ireland were hurling when the gods of Greece were young.

Too right PJ; and they still are. sublimely, though the gods of Greece are long gone.

Haha! Well said pj. Can't think of a word to describe the game, everything about it was perfect, incredible scores, one after another , from either side, high catches, blocks, bravery, the game had it all. Ref had a good game too, I doff my hat to yiz, tipp/cats, I cant think how anyone could have provided a better spectacle

By far HURLING IS THE GREATEST GAME ON EARTH, no doubt about that, fantastic game today, ref made a few dodgy decisions but in fairness he used his umpires properly as you are suppose to do. Hawkeye deciding if Tipp scored a point at the end of the game to win Liam! Priceless. Greatest game on earth, Our Lords sport, sure didn't Our Lord stop for a game of Hurling on his way when giving up his life on the cross. (in case i offend some religous people, no i'm only joking)

I am watching hurling a long long time and that for me was without doubt the greatest game of hurling I have ever seen the excitement in the first 20 min was something to behold I didn't think it could continue but it did.Tj reids goal straight after ht was outrageous and R Hogan gave a display of hurling that won't be matched for a long time.Tipp to score 1-28 and not win is just crazy,i'm privileged to say I was there.

On review, Barry Kelly had a poor game yesterday. Two penalty's outside box, Richie Power Trip, nearly costing Kilkenny the match with that late free against Brian Hogan, pull of the helmet on Power. (Surely the linesman has to act here) Also Tipp had to work much harder to earn a free in the second half. Finally, his decision to play 1 added minute was baffling. If Tipp had of scored, would he have allowed a restart? Brian Gavin a cert for replay.

Two marvellous teams played a marvellous game without a foul stroke and so few wides. I've seen a golden era for KK, now are we seeing a golden era for hurling in general ? AI Finals just keep getting better.
All due respect to Tipp but Barry Kelly favoured ye ( Bubbles' last-gasp free should've been thrown in ). Bring on Brian Gavin on the 27th.
Will Richie Hogan, Bubbles or Cathal Barrett be as good again ? Wally Walsh as quiet, assuming he starts ? Paul Murphy to have his homework on Bonner done as well as he had yesterday ?

Well done to Pat Hoban's Minor Cats, esp. John Walsh - no cows milked in Mullinavat last night. Hard luck Limerick.

Just getting my breath back now (with a sore head!)

As good as 2010. Showed reall bottle to stay coming back after missing 6 really good goal chances. Personally I thought it was the greatest refereeing performance I've ever seen. He used his umpires well. Both penalties for me were penalties. Anyway that's only a sideshow now.

Our two youngest players led the way again yesterday. Just sorry I didn't back Barrett at 4\1 for you g hurler yesterday morning. His performance was every but as good as Seamus hickeys and I feel he should have got man of the match. Bonner was also outstanding as he has been most of the year but for me the performance of lar is the main memory I'll have of that game. He didn't score 3 goals this time but he was undoubtedly the man that stood up and was counted when needed. All this when so many outsiders said he shouldn't start. One of his best performances.

Great to see shefflin and Kelly getting on too. Kelly for me has been the most skilful hurler of this generation and he will get one more shot at it

What a game, real edge of the seat stuff. Hawkeye decides the result and I wonder how many matches in the past (especially hurling) which results in one point wins for points that should not have been given.

Was at it, excellent game, excellent experience.

Very disappointing that the public are being 'squeezed out' by the media coverage of the game. Nobody (media) seems to want to listen to what Kilkenny & Tipp fans had to say before or after the game. It seems like a lot of ex players & managers/players from other counties are just saying 'great game' which is a bit tedious. We seem to be force fed a lot of 'happy' analysis & it would be nice to hear what real grassroots fans think.

Thankfully, we have this message board!

It was indeed a privelege to be in Croke Park yesterday to witness the greatest game of hurling ever played . Where do you start ?? Tipps forwards were just phenomenally accurate . Lar is obviously a confidence player and after he got that point after galloping 50 yards if the 1st half , he was like a man possessed as did Callinan who tortured JJ when he got the ball. O'Dwyer's skill level is through the roof . Tipp 2 corner backs were majestic. Bonner Maher is the best ball winner in the game . Noel McGrath just oozes almost effortless ability.
That said - they had to equalise in the 68th minute so how good were Kilkenny? For 15 or 20 mins in 2nd half yesterday I watched a 5 foot 7 wizard give an exhibition of hurling that I have never seen the like of .TJ Reid is nearly unmarkable.
Regarding the ref ? Good and bad - Great use of Umpires , kept it flowing but sometimes I Thought he played advantage to kilkenny a few times when he should have blown and gave them the free. Also not sure if its been mentioned and havent seen TV yet but I thought at the time that Bonner took about a million steps for his goal ? The last free looked all day long like charging from Hogan but I believe on TV is apparently was more innocuous ? Who'd be a ref .

The replay couldnt possibly be as good .....

Honoured to have watched that game. Jesus to think one of those teams could have lost would have been tragic. Some pace I was tired just looking at it! It had everything except a red card thank God.

Jesus weve been spoilt the last few years with the games of hurling were being handed up. Long may it continue. The height of respect for these 2 teams. Proud to say I attempt to play the same sport as them men

222 from UK, who would be a Ref with the like of you around. Take the 2 penalties. Very close calls but in both instances was the Tipperary man not fouled when bearing down on goal with only keeper to beat. In hindsight one needs to ask is it more beneficial to pull the man down and give away a penalty where 3 men are defending a strike from the 21 yard line or let him go and shoot from a shorter distance against one man. Cute play from the Cats i think. The penalties were not scored and therefore had no bearing on the result but you have to side with the attacking team as they were denied goalscoring opportunities.

While there were 1 or 2 strange decisions, particularly on the "rugby tackle" on Larkin, I thought he had a great game and added to what was a marvellous occasion. The Brian Hogan incident was a correct one, he charged straight into Maher rather than try to go around him. On the Power helmet decision, there were 2 of them at it, what does a Ref do? He doesnt have the benefit of a action replay to make up his mind.

Considering the occasion, pressure, the speed of the game etc I thought he did a super job.
