On one occasion at the start of the 2nd half, Dick brushed by Michael Murphy and Michael spent the next 4 mins on the ground as a result
.

My point made for me by drumlinbelt.

What is described as a "brush" by Monaghan men is the sort of thing that leaves Murphy stretched out and would have left lesser men in hospital.

Dubs, don't say you weren't warned.

First half of the prediction has come true, not sure about the second half, we'll see on Saturday, but one question has been answered:

Ulster is the strongest province this year.

Yes these guys who started these threads earlier in the year must realise how stupid they were. It's childish and pathetic when people say that A defeats B therefore is better than C ! That's what people were doing !
It was the Derry result that started this . Donegal and Longford beat Derry by similar scores , I can't be CERTAIN but id say we would beat Longford!
Kerry and Cork got tough matches for like the first time in ten years and people down South got very excited !

Ulster is strong. Regardless of that, no Ulster team will make the final this year though.

You're getting a bit excited.

I was one of those people who started one of those threads, but all of us of that viewpoint actually accepted that Donegal and Monaghan would almost certainly be in the quarter-finals. It's no surprise that they are. I am surprised at Armagh being there, but fair play to them, they are a good team. One of Donegal and Armagh will bow out, and one will play Dublin. Donegal have a slender enough chance of beating Dublin, Armagh have no chance. Monaghan won't beat Dublin, they'll be gone too. Is Ulster weak? No, but I never said it was. Is it strong? Not really.

More rain I'd say.

The outcome of this years championship is a lot easier to predict than the weather.

Donegal will try to kill the game and take Dublin pace out of the equation. Dublin bet this system already and will most certainly beat it again.

The only reason you can say that is because the force of nature that is Dublin stands in the way. Had Dublin been on the other side of the draw it would have been odds on for an Ulster team make the final.

A lot of posts along the lines of

...One of Donegal and Armagh will bow out, and one will play Dublin...

I'm sure Jim Gavin won't like that and Malachy O'Rourke will be loving it.

Certainly real Dublin fans will have heard this sort of guff before and will ignore it.

So, some respect for Monaghan please - they've earned it over the last 2 years.

And Ulster is the strongest province. The second and third best teams in Leinster might be 4th or 5th best in Ulster and the also rans in Connaught or Munster, one good performance doesn't put you up there. If they matched the commitment up north instead of whining about it they might be closer to making the break through.

But that's not the case naysayer. I think the reason why Ulster is strong is because there a 4 potential champions each year.

When a team like Monaghan for example win the ulster championship it gives them the motivation and inspiration to kick on.

Leinster is different. For Kildare.Wexford and Meath getting hammered nearly every year by Dublin (who are probably 5 points better than their next nearest rivals in the country) drives them back years in terms on development.

As I said, Monaghan bet a poor Kildare team yesterday and struggled to do so. We are probably the 4th best team in Leinster at the moment.

Leinster football is poor apart from the dubs

What does that make Monaghan if they need an injury time point to level the game in normal time against the third best team in Leinster

But prideof,

As I have said Monaghan bet us, a poor team probably ranked 3rd if not 4th in Leinster and we should have had you's bet in normal time.

There is very little between Armagh,Down,Derry,Wexford,Kildare,Monaghan,Tyrone,Meath and Laois on any give day.

The Dubs are the best in the Country. Donegal will cause them issues but you'd have to say Dublin are a better footballing team.

Looking at last nights football i wouldn't say kildare were the poorest team on view from Leinster stones and glass houses comes to mind maestro

As they went on to win the game it means that Monaghan are better than them. It's narrow margins all the way from here.

Except on recent evidence (very recent evidence and on the big stage) Armagh and Monaghan are better.

Clearly it annoys a lot of folk to see Ulster teams win matches.

It is just over 24 hrs since Armagh and Monaghan joined Donegal in the last 8 yet we have the usual suspects out with the usual detracting comments - on a par with the teams they have disposed of, not going to win Sam, diving, slow etc etc.

I have said it before and I will say it again - to those who hate anything Ulster just be thankful that the draw has worked out that Armagh have taken care of Tyrone, Donegal and Armagh will take care of one or the other and the hot favourites for the competition are there for good measure to try and stop Ulster showing its face in the final or in big numbers in the semi finals.

A different draw and you could be looking at the awful prospect of three Ulster teams and Dublin in the semi finals this year - and that is when Ulster football is in a bit of a lull.

Yes the overall quality in the country might be fairly low right now with the exception of Dublin but it is still Ulster who has more than their share of quarter finalists. This does not keep happening by chance.

Its a bit boring at this stage. You have Cavan & Antrim supporters talking up ulster as if it somehow raises their own status. Well it dosent and its a disservice to the quality Ulster teams that are still in the championship.

Well you may get used to it from this Antrim supporter jonjo. I am a proud Glensman/ Antrimman first, Ulsterman next, Mayoman on account of the wife after that. I have listened to too much anti Northern bias for decades so why shouldn't I stand shoulder to shoulder with my Province. As I have said on here before, I know where Antrim are at and have no disillusions like many here and am not that stupid to think any Ulster team victory reflects better on us. I can support whoever I so wish and your words of scorn won't change that. Here's hoping for an Ulster/Mayo final - think what that would do for the profile of Antrim football...
