First good game of the summer. Hope it's the start of a great all ireland series. Kildsres fear of kicking the ball and Monaghans sheer determination was the difference.

Have to say i thought Kildare were very unlucky at the end of normal time,it was a very soft free for McManus..best team lost

Not buying into all this rubbish about McManus and soft frees. Amazing to see bandwagon effect after Ryan's comments.

As soon as McManus wins a free, everyone is saying it's a soft one regardless of the foul committed

Hard luck Kildare battled til the end, if Callaghan scores that goal chance it was game over IMO.

How do you figure the best team lost?

It was still a free bullet. Anyway look, if you analyse the whole game there were plenty of more debatable decisions which you could argue could have affected the game too so no point just picking one.

Kildare have only themselves to blame had the chances but threw it away same as the last few years, good solid team but never broke into the big league.
I can't for the life of me understand the free taking strategy why didn't a left footed kicker not hit some of those frees towards the end especially after a great point was scored near the end with the left foot (name escapes me).
Well done to Monaghan by no means their best performance but great battling to get the result and at least they have a chance to work on it.

Amazing how a province like Ulster with 'no natural footballers' and 'no idea how to play football properly' has 3 teams in the last 8 ... time for the GAA to change the rules completely to prevent this kind of thing happening :)

Moving swiftly on, predictions:

Kerry to beat Galway with ease
Mayo to scrape past Cork with some help from the ref
Armagh to beat Donegal
Dublin to slaughter a tired Monaghan

We should have won the game in normal time. Leper glorious goal chance wides and missed frees. Think monaghan scored something like 0-12 from frees and also kicked bad wides. Can't see Dublin been tested the next day

Well done to Monaghan and also to Armagh I thought Monaghan really showed fight tonight , the goals never knocked them off their stride , they kept plugging away and finally got their rewards. Great to see them winning a championship match in Croker. I also thought they played better than in the Ulster final and this is what the team wants , a victory in Croker. I intend to be in CP next Saturday as I'm looking forward to two big games and with three Ulster teams there should be a good night.
Also I thought Armagh played some good football and Donegal won't have it all their own way next weekend. What a turnaround from the league for Armagh.

Will we have the All Ulster Semi final. ??? Can Monaghan do it ??? But at least Ulster will have one team in the semi final.
Let's hope the weather is good next weekend

Plenty of good about that game from both ulster and Leinster teams. Black cards were straightforward, no complaints on the refereeing some super scores, two great goals and no qualms to be made. Fair play to Kildare they may have lost but showed they have more quality than what they displayed against Meath in the Leinster championship. Callaghans goal miss for me was costly.

Best of luck to Monaghan it'll be tough aha isn't the dubs but they will be huge underdogs and have a good spirit about them.

What a game last night, end to end, brillant to be at, Vinney corey was motm, what a goal!!!!!!!, he was everywhere,
Monaghan have played 2 teams in the last eight aramgh(twice) and donegal and beaten 2 div 1 teams, tryone and kildare, not back going for a small county, bring on the dubs!!, ULSTER football is alive and kicking

Well done to all the four teams that played in those conditions and provided such entertainment.
Armagh looked the most impressive of the four. They won every dirty ball and seemed to want it more and they will sicken Donegal.
Kildare were impressive and let us off the hook, had they took their chances (they need a freetaker) they would have won it. The thing is that even when the 2 goals went in we didn,t panic and showed great composure to come back. Kildare fouled alot (whether the begrudgers and band wagon hoppers like it or not) and kept us in it at half time. Ollie Lyons was my man of the match for his man to man job on McManus, some of it was border line off the ball but Kildare will be the better team if he continues to play like that.
Another thing of note was that when the pressure came on in the second half in both games the supporters form the 2 winning teams were their to give them a lift

Would give both teams great credit for playing a really good game in such awful conditions. Monaghan hung in there and their hunger got them the result. Jason Ryan should just stick to the managing the team and less of the prematch verbals. Just spurred on the opposition. Hard luck Leper too on missing the goal. That would of sealed it for us in normal time.

Go back and look at it again - Kildare's last 3 points in normal time from Callaghan, Smith and O'Flaherty that put them a point ahead are as good a 3 points as you will see all summer - and scored at a time when legs would have been getting tired with the conditions. Kildare scored 2-11 from play hardly sounds like a team afraid of kicking the ball. It was the free-taking that probably cost us!

Lads,

Ulster football may be alive and kicking but the fact is no ulster team will make the final.

Monaghan struggled to beat, what for me is a poor kildare team that should have won it in normal time apart from naive defending near the end. Paudie O'Neill needed to take black for vinny corrys goal.

The Dubs will beat Monaghan out the gate, like they would have done to us.

Dublin will struggle against Donegal but will win by 4-5. Donegal just won't be able to score enough and I still see Dublin kicking 1-15 or so.
