Monaghan V Kildare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think Monaghan will win by about 3 points. They are a better team than they showed last week. They played the Ulster final on Donegal's terms and had they gone out and played their own game they may well have won it. With Kildare on the other hand, Im afraid what you see is what you get. Despite being awful against Meath they showed up Meath's frailties in the 2nd half but they were just too headless and tactically clueless to exploit them. Their fitness levels will see them in contention right to the end but if Monaghan play to their potential they will win.

You still haven't got over the fact we hammered you guys in the Ulster semifinal replay but then again that's typical of you can't stand to see your next door neighbours doing well.
I like most Monaghan people will be cheering on Armagh on Saturday week so come on Monaghan & Armagh. Casso429 ever heard of sour grapes???

I am actually a Kildare fan who just happens to live in Armagh! and I too like you love to see all the Ulster teams doing well for your information. Unfortunately in this case it's either Monaghan or Kildare to progress so who do you think I want to see go through? If Monaghan win it will be because they were the better team on the day and good luck to them if they do. So don't talk to me about sour grapes!!!

Monaghan haven't really being that impressive in the champ this year, but they haved eeked some good results,I think Kildare will be too nice for them.

Kildare were beaten by Meath and struggled against Clare, but we came back well in both games and this shows there is a bit of character to this Kildare side.If the scoring is close with twenty minutes to play I would fancy Kildare to come through.

Both teams have the possibility of playing Dublin in the next round. A formidable challenge as they are the top team in the country at the moment, with a host of talented players at their disposal. If we should win on Saturday, I would like a crack at the dubs, because it would be interesting to see if we have progressed since our defeats last year.

bryanadams, why would you want a crack at a team we hardly ever beat! Kildare wouldn't get within 15 points of Dublin!

Big game for kildare, make a QF and we can't complain. Meath was the defining game but they are a better team than us. Monaghan is a chance to see if we can handle a big game again. I think we may have learned a few things from the meath game but Monaghan have won a title and beaten tyrone and armagh this year which suggests they will have too much for us.

Monaghan were the team most people thought most likely to step up to the level of AI contenders and winning the league title seemed to confirm that progress. However they have not been impressive this year and lost their provincial title rather tamely.
You would suspect there would be a backlash on saturday and I fear that Kildare wont be able for it. I can see us going 7 or 8 points down before the inevitable fingtback which will just come up short.
If we start well and remain in the game we could surpise a few people but our midfield remains a worry.

Kildare are not as poor as they looked against Meath. The Goal just before half time killed them that day instead of going in at the break 2 pts down they were 5 pts down and they completely dominated Meath in the Last 20mins kicking some very bad wides when they were on top.

Monaghan I feel are overrated I don't think they will go 7 to 8pts up on Kildare as mentioned in a previous post. They really only have 1 class forward in mc manus and a decent forward in hughes. Foley struggled against meath at full back but I think hughes is the type of player that will suit him. Mc Manus will need watching.

If Kildare are in this with 20mins to go which I expect they will I fancy them to win by 2 to 3 pts

After hard fought victories over tyrone and armagh,I wouldn't say we lost our provincial championship tamely...
This game is massive for us and losing would be a huge setback.Think we will have enough to win by 4-5 points.

Don't normally say things like this but Monaghan will win this game easily. Kildare are just not good enough at the moment

I'll not be surprised if this is a tight game but I'm hoping for a similar result as the one two years ago in Clones,

Like the other 4B qualifier game, hard to call.

As mentioned in a previous post; the lingering effect the Ulster final defeat my rest heavy on the minds of the Monaghan team. Kildare have not exactly set the world alight with any of their games so far this year and maybe, just perhaps, this is the best way to be approaching another game in Croke Park. Kildare to win, again, just about.

If Monaghan do win, they set up a likely date with Dublin the following Saturday evening. This potential game could have a big say on eventual winner of the AL.

Monaghan should be good enough to beat us. Dublin would rollercoast the pick of the two counties. Why anyone thinks Monaghan can give Dublin a shock is beyond me.

To be honest I don't think it is bothering that much at all,I have not noticed it but I seen other Donegal posters saying that after the match they didnt seem to be too bothered,
like you's last year they could be back up there lifting the Anglo Celt, so I'd say they have it out of their system and focusing on the game Saturday,

RE: realman2

I wouldn't wholly disagree with you that most teams may struggle to live to Dublin for a whole game. On the evidence so far; to shock Dublin, this year, would be come within 3 points of them. And to shock a team like Dublin at the QF stage might not bode well for the chasing pack.

It would be a major shock if monaghan ran them to three points. I would say 7-10 points is a more realistic margin if the game happens.
