in fairness to mcmanus... lyons is far too tight to him all game

This seems to be how Coldrick was reading it too. But I don't see anything in the rulebook about being too sticky. Was infuriating to watch as Ollie did very well on him I thought, particularly at the end where they both just went for the ball. It seems these days you have to let the forward out in front and try and play him away from goal from there. The irony that Cormac Reilly was letting far more physical challenges go yesterday from Cork and Mayo is if anything more annoying.

Alas the two worst decisions were nothing to do with that but the dump "tackle" by the Monaghan player in the middle of the field in the run up to the free just outside the box and the hair pulling at the end of normal time. Both clearly visible from the back of the stand and in the direct line of sight of the ref were scandalous.

Still it was our game to lose. Frees on the right hand side and Callaghan's shot being the big what if's. Also think Fergal Conway got caught up between whether he was a sweeper or to double team McManus. Too often he found himself in no mans land doing neither. .

Sky discussed the last free and concluded Coldrick was correct in giving it. If you are looking for consistency amongst refs you are wasting your time.

he ended up falling into him a lot doublehop and pushing him...you can mark a guy tightly without constantly knocking into him from behind..its a free if you knock into him from behind constantly

Given the frees that the ref was giving all night the McManus incident was 100% a free. Regardless of that its a free 10/10 times, I doubt there's a ref around who wouldn't have given it. Defender wrapped his arm around the attacker from behind and pushed him with other arm. Its as clear as day. Anyone who says it wasn't a free is either stupid or just incredibly biased. Ref gave Kildare a free in the 67min that was outrageous, luckily for us they missed it.
