Armagh vs Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Muck you must have missed the last few mins of final. If armagh try to out muscle Meath there will be only one winner in that battle and it won't be the men in orange. If Meath play to their capabilities or even near it then Meath will win with bit to spare . this game is of far more importance to Meath than armagh I feel. Armagh could face a Royal backlash of biblical proportions. It all depends on what Meath turn up. I am not been disrespectful to armagh but this is mods defining game. Win and all will be well again , get beat and the odds of him been on sideline again lengthen.

Meath have to keep Jamie Clarke quiet, if not it will Armagh to advance, their improving with every game.

Royaldunne - are you serious? Is this the same Meath we are talking about? Armagh to win by at least 5.

I reckon it would be much more of an advantage to Armagh to have had this game in a provincial ground. They would probably thrive on the hostile nature of the Armagh crowd and used that and an intense start to try and worry Meath out of the game.

Croke Park doesn't have the same feel as a provincial venue and I reckon it's the same feeling out on the pitch.

It will probably also help that this is Meath's 10th championship game there (W5, L5) since Armagh's last. They haven't won a game there since 2005 although not as bad as Monaghan who haven't won a championship match at HQ in 84 years.

Brolly I'd be surprised If Meath don't destroy armagh . I'd settle for a 1 point win. But it would shock me If armagh even got near Meath. Both Leinster counties will win on the 2nd.

What are you basing this confidence on RD? They've beaten us before this year, they're on a great run this season and we have a very poor record against Ulster counties, not to mention the hiding we got in the last game. If we get a good reaction we could well win but I certainly wouldn't be too confident about it.

Dessie. Fair enough. My point is it will have no influence on this match how many all ire medals are on sidelines. Its about the players on the field and what tactics the sideline adopts.

If it's down to players and tactics RD then there will only be one winner and it won't be Meath.

Armagh have the better management team and better players.

You're blind optimism is only rivaled by Brendan Devenney.

Cletus if armagh have the better management and players what they doing in div 3? Where as Meath were within a bad call in ballybofey of been in div one.
Look armagh have proven this year in championship that they can play well against ulster sides and indeed against a very young roscommon side but Meath will be a total different prospect. Armagh by looks of it are on the way up. Meath if they play anywhere near capabilities should win with a bit to spare.

At the end of the day Armagh DV3 is a smoke screen A. They werent even the 2nd worse team in the competition Galway were worse of Score difference and B Sure they were missing 10 of there starting players that are on the team now if you took of 10 Meath players yous would end up down beside us. I think we should get promoted the year, I am actually happy that we are in DV3 because teams arent really taking us seriously just because of the stigma of playing in DV3 we have beaten meath before and we have beat laois two leinster teams. I think it will be very tight and the spaces will suit armagh in croke park. I also think armagh have one of the best back 6 in the country tackle and dispoess the ball very well. I cant call it but seriously some of the meath guys on here have the head up their A** how can yous be so confident yous havent beat anyone worthy of note the year, take Dublin out of Leinster and none of yous have done anything in a long time. What do you mean we beat Down in croke park in 2011 in the DV2 League final so 2005 wasnt our last win... Mon the orchard 50/50 game with the hope of an Armagh win

I would make Armagh favourites to beat Meath. They have the momentum whereas Meath are trying to bounce back from a heavy defeat. Armagh also have a game plan which Meath don't have because they are always chopping and changing players positions.

Don't understand why some Meath folk on here are claiming we will walk this game!! I think Armagh are Favs for this game and i would be happy with a 1 point win. Some people on here have some crazy stuff going on in their heads.

Good posts by the last 2 Meath posters.

The point about the chopping and changing of positions especially.
MOD needs to settle this team and positions next year for Meath to have a real chance of progressing.
I know some will point to injuries etc but he has made some strange positional choices.

Ye I think our best bet against Armagh is to pick everybody in their natural positions and play a simple game ie get bodies back when we don't have the ball and play quick long ball into our forwards when we do have it. The selections against Dublin were very tactical, much more so than last year and they turned out to be an unmitigated disaster, keep it simple MOD and we have a good chance against Armagh, but it'll still be very tough.

A lot more intensity from Meath is required to win this game. The one thing Meath need to avoid like the plague is taking the ball into contact because they won't be able to handle Armagh's physicality. Quick ball into players with pace and space to run into is what Meath need, similar to how they set up against Dublin last year.
It's unlikely Armagh will afford such space though, defensively they're set up very soundly. If Meath don't have a game plan and find themselves forced down blind alleys then I'd be fully confident of an Armagh victory.
I expect this one to be tasty though. The Meath ego will have taken a bad knock after Sunday and I fully expect them to come out fighting. Armagh haven't been getting near enough credit, at a time when people are lauding systems and game plans, Armagh have been very rigid and resolute in sticking to their own one.

Well if Meath don't bring intensity to this game, well serious questions will have to be answered..

Kingofclubs

That is a huge issue I have,we constantly change players positions, sometimes many times in the 70 mins, you cannot build a platform like this..

I commend some of the Meath supporters on their confidence in their team.

"Armagh could face a Royal backlash of biblical proportions."

This confuses me somewhat. From what I've seen of Meath lately, and yes I include the famous draw in Ballybofey in this, I cannot see how they could suddenly turn around in the space of 2 weeks and blow a team like Armagh away. Where is the evidence to support such a prediction? Yes they tanked Carlow and beat Kildare well enough but against a physical and athletic team like Armagh I just simply cannot see this happening.

Really looking forward to seeing Jamie Clarke in action in Croke Park. Would I be right in saying it'll be his first time playing there in county championship action? I'd say he'll revel in the wide open spaces.

For me, Armagh to win it with about 3 or 4 points to spare.

Mid ranking Ulster team to beat second best team in Leinster and Monaghan should be too strong for a wasteful Kildare.

Mid ranking Ulster team?

There are 9 counties in Ulster, you could only say Monaghan and Donegal are better than Armagh with any certainty...
