Wexford were 10 points down with 20mins to go. Gave the ball to Mattie Forde and he did his thing."
Incredible game that was. You know many Wexford people left at half time, I remember meeting some in the pub after :). Mattie Forde was outstanding off both feet that day and his final score to win it was sublime

Tyrone 2003 Ulster Final vs Down that ended a draw.

Tyrone were 9 points down at a stage & 3 points down with around 5 mins to go, God scored a fantastic penalty that day

Westmeath's first ever championship win against Meath a couple of years ago.

Tipp vs Kilkenny in 2014, 4 Down with 5 mins to play and scored 4 points to force a replay.

Dubs vs Kerry in 2011, similar to Tipp/Kilkenny above except Dublin got the fairytale ending.

Galway vs Waterford in the league last year.

Meath vs Dublin in 1991. Meath looked beaten in everyone of those games.

Tyrone comeback against Down in 2003 conceding 4 goals 9 points down in Ulster final and the change of Cormac to full back which lead to the All-Ireland 3 games later will be hard to top. However as a neutral being at the Athletic Grounds as Armagh came back from 9 points down against Fermanagh in the last ten minutes of 1993 Ulster Championships was the best comeback l witnessed.

Dublin losing heavily to Cork at halftime in a football League semi final few years ago and then blowing Cork out of the water in the 2nd half to win easily but for me it has to be the 1994 All Ireland hurling Final Offaly v Limerick, Limerick leading near fulltime by I think 5 points and in injury time Offaly score 2-02 without reply to win the title, Limerick still haven't recovered yet their U21s were doing well few years ago and should be setting up nicely for their senior squad around now, would love to see Limerick winning Liam if only to rid the ghost of 1994

Fermanagh down by 6 with 5 minutes to go against Roscommon in 2015 was something special. Some feed of pints that night to celebrate.

Our comeback against Tyrone in 86 was pretty sweet also our comeback against Mayo to draw the first game in 2014 , thought we were goners on both occasions.

Mayo were 'a goner' in the replay anyway, the referee made sure of that.

No. We missed enough chances that could have had us win easily. Kerry took them when they needed them.

Some venue, some game, some night !

Monaghan v Derry 92 Ulster championship in Castleblayney we we're losing by 7 with about 5 mins to go when young Stephen McGinnity came on and changed the game for us, involved in 3 goals we scored in a few minutes, then we conceded a goal and had to get a point to force a draw. That same Derry team went on to win the All Ireland the following year. Best finish I ever seen to a game.

In Meath we had a great reputation for comebacks. Something we haven't achieved as much recently. In last years league we were losing by 9 points to Cork l with 20 mins to go in Cork and we the drew the game. Thats is probaly one of our few comebacks in recent years. But in the past even before Boylan we had a reputation for a never say die spirit and comebacks. Something that goes hand in hand with this great never say die spirit is our great record in replays. Meath have only lost 5 replays in near 140 years of championship football. We have only lost 1 replay in the last 35 years ( v Dublin in 2007). We were unbeaten in 8 replays in 22 years between 1984 to 2006. But the comebacks have being a big part of Meath football for decades.

1 1949 3 games Meath v louth. It was the forerunner of the epic 4 matchs v Dublin in 91. 3 games v louth also caught the countries imagination. It was great rivalry at the time. As louth and Meath won every leinster title from 1947 to 1954. Meath had a great comeback in the first game when louth were winning by 6 points well into the second half. The game is drawn with a Paddy Meegan point in injury time.

2 1970 Leinster final Meath v Offaly. Considered by Michael O Muiritigh as one of the best games he ever saw. It was the most high scoring final ever.
At half time Offaly were winning by 10 points with 4 Offaly goals scored in the first half. Meath made a great comeback to overturn a 10 point lead to win by 1 point. The final score was Meath 2-22 Offaly 5-12.

3 4 games Meath v Dublin in 1991. Meath were behind in all 4 games. In the third game Meath were behind by 5 points with 20 mins left. A Brian Stafford free from 40 metres in injury time draws the match with the last kick of the game .

4 In the 4th game Meath v Dublin 1991 with 15 mins to go Dublin were winning by 6 points. A Kevin Foley goal and David Beggy point win the game for Meath in the dying seconds.

5 Meath v Roscommon All Ireland semi final 91 Also Meath r 6 points down to Roscommon and again Meath make a great comeback led by Brian Stafford who wins the match for Meath.

6 Meath v Down final 1991 Possibly could have been our greatest comeback ever led by Colm O Rourke ( who came on as a sub as he couldnt play as he had pneumonia). With 15 mins to go Meath were losing by 11 points to Down. Meath brought the Down lead down to 2 points in the last minute of the game. But ref blew the whistle at full time and gave very little injury time. Meath ran out of time.

7 1996 Meath v Mayo All Ireland drawn final . Mayo were winning by 6 points with 15 minutes to go. Meath score 6 unanswered points to draw the game in injury time .

8 1996 Meath v Mayo Replay All Ireland Final . Mayo are winning by 6 points again in the second half of the replay . Meath again are 6 points down well into the second half for the second time v Mayo in 1996. Meath with one of the youngest teams ever to win an All Ireland ( 7 Under 21s) hold their nerve in both games and make 2 great comeback. ( Which has to be best performance of courage and never say die spirit by a young team in an All Ireland final ever). Brendan Reilly scores an exquisite point from a tough angle to win the final in the dying seconds of the game. It is the best point from play to win an All Ireland in the last 50 years. But that is rarely mentioned.

9 3 games Meath v Kildare 1997 The second game was a classic. Pat Spillane said it was one of the best games ever played in Croke Park. Meath like 91 v Dublin were behind in first two games. In second game. Kildare were winning by 3 points with a minute or two left in the game. Meath get a penalty. Giles penalty was saved and kildare clear the ball and from that resultant clearance Meath won a line ball and started an attack. From this attack in injury time with the last kick of the game Tevour Giles scores a goal to put the match into extra time. Giles scored 2-8 that day.

In extra time Kildare were winning by 6 points as they scored some great scores in the first half of extra time. Meaths substitution Jody Devine scores 5 unanswered great points in the second half of extra time to draw the match and another replay follows which Meath win.

10 2000 Meath v kerry National league division 1 semi Final in Thurles on Easter Sunday. With 15 mins to go Kerry are winning by 7 points. Meath score 4 goals in the match and win the match with an injury time goal by John Cullinane. The papers the next day the headlines were Royal Resurrection as Meath make a great comeback on Easter Sunday. Boylan said it was Meaths best comeback ever and the best game he ever saw.

11 2001 Meath v Westmeath First round leinster championship. Well into the second half Westmeath are winning by 6 points down. Meath make a great comeback to win the match with Trevor Giles scoring a long distance free in injury time.

12 2001 Meath v Westmeath Quater final. In the same year in the same championship in an All Ireland quater final in Croker Meath make a great comeback v Westmeath. At the start of the second half Westmeath were winning by 9 points.. Meath realed in the lead with and in injury time an Ollie Murphy goal draws the game. Meath win the replay.

13 2002 Meath v Louth qualifier in Navan. Louth were winning by 4 points at the very end of the game. The ref gave 4 minutes injury time. 4 minutes was announced. In the first minute of injury time Richie Kealy scored a great goal. And with 3 mins 45 seconds gone and with only 15 seconds left. Meath work the ball to Graham Geraghty. Geraghty is near the goals. A point is on to draw the match. Most players would have went for the point. Instead Geraghty takes on the louth defence and passes their defenders as he fires the ball to the net to score a goal with seconds left and win Meath the match. Geragthy had came to the match in a helicopter as he was best man at a friends wedding happening the same day. So he went to the wedding in the morning. Flew to Navan to play and win the match for Meath in injury time. And flew back to the wedding after the match was over. One word comes to mind; Legend.

14 2007 Meath v Dublin. Dublin were well ahead in the second half winning by 6 points at one stage. 5 great points from frees from supersub Cian Ward who came on as a substitute in the second half draw the match for Meath in the dying moments of the game.
