Attendances

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well yes, I would include DCB Jack in the failure to promote it. It is not that long ago Dublin were filling Croke Park for league matches that were properly sold as big events. Fair enough, the recession has hit attendances but the rugby people are doing what the GAA were doing 6/7 years ago and filling the Aviva.

Is it not Dublin County board's responsibility to promote their big games? Dubs are always saying they should have theirs promoted but why not other counties too?

Anyway, what were the other attendances around the country. 3,600 people paid into see Meath v Down. OK considering it was on TV and that doesn't include the many kids but it was down on the Armagh match at home which wasn't great to see.

I don't know if Leinster affected Dublin's attendance. They've had roughly 20k per match at home and I'd say the good mayo support made up the extra 1 or 2 thousand. That's Dublin's core support but as other posters say if they promoted the match they'd of gotten another 10-15k and it's a shame considering how good the match was.

I always wondered myself about whos the ones who should be prmoting but the way the gaa works im not sure the money is given to county boards to promote the matches, I think the GAA budgets for being able to promote these games themselves
they have a marketing team in the gaa and croke park but they seem to get paid for doing barely anything outside of august and september.

also I do think next year dublin will promote these games by themselves
I think appointing mossie quinn and the other guy who done the marketing for man utd
is a sign they are taking it on their own bat to promote themselves.
overall dublins four home games brought in an average attendance of 22,500
considering the lack of promotion particularly this year I would say there is plenty of scope for quinn and your man
to bring that up to 30,000 next year

fair play to you cuchulainn. you must have spent halfvthe match counting. the proportional figure of orchard fans grows everytime you come west. will allow you your moment of exaggeration.

2,307 at Monaghan Laois game and
3,600 at Donegal game
With regards the game in Thurles which 6,600 attended I think it is a disgrace that the price of a ticket was €20 when it has been €10 right through the league and €15 on the day. You shouldn't expect to have to pay €40 for two people to attend a league ever. A lot of people refused to pay it at the gate just on principal. I wonder were the other league quarter finals charged at €20 a ticket as they said in Thurles it was coming from Headquarters but I find it hard to believe they would charge that when many Championship games would be similar if not cheaper then that.

My Galway friend

I think the Armagh crowd was 10,000 in the 2,500 crowd, it just that the majority of those from south Armagh jumped the wall!!!!

No doubt €20 isn't cheap but the value I got for my €20 at Tipp v Cork was great compared with the a random Pro12 rugby match where I believe it is also €20 to watch a primarily second string Munster play some other scottish / Welsh Italian team. Was there any option to buy a ticket in advance and save €5 for the quarters? That is a great initiative

Any idea what the attendance at the other hurling quarter finals?

managed to get to the connacht u21 final today. 5,500 was the official attendance. seemed a bit more than that as the newish stand was full with a good crowd on the sideline and behind one goal.

That's more than Connaught would get to most games. Pretty good for an u21 final. Pity about the result.

Definitely more than 5,500 in Carrick yesterday - great attendance for an u21 match between 2 small counties (2.30 on a Saturday!)

Well I'd say Mayo, Derry and the Dubs will bring a decent crowd and then the usual 10 or so West Cork lads living in Drumcondra! ;)

Would be disappointing if there are not 40,000 at least.

Croke Park looks deserted.

You really have to ask why the GAA insists on hauling people miles for games like these which could have been played in Sligo & would have gathered a local crowd as well as supporters from both counties.

29 thousand that was 5 thousand up on last years semi finals so I would say they were quite happy with that crowd
considering kildare were in the semis last year and cork in this years thats a good turnout.
the reason you seen gap in middle of stand in second half was because mayo got all the middle of the cusack stand tickets
and left as soon as they were beaten. how do they do it they seem to get the best tickets all the time aswell as the hill tickets last year.

I'd say the GAA would have been worried with the thought of a Derry Cork league final, they'd have been relying on Donegal and Monaghan to get a crowd for the finals.

You're not wrong there Alvin!
Our football support is miserable. The team are shaping up nicely but I don't think it matters if thery were playing cracking football I don't think people would come out to see them. This has been the case for years. Hard to know why the county board don't make some effort to change it and generate a bit of interest. THe Dubs have a lot of knockers for the Spring Series but it is a fantastic initiative in my opinion and something Cork should really look at.

The GAA have been lucky with the pairings for years but you are going to end up with a Cork / Derry / Galway league final or even AI semi at some stage and there could be well be less then 10k at it..

I'm bringing my brothers (aged 8 and 6) up to the Monaghan v Donegal and Dublin v Derry finals. Will I have to buy them a ticket or could they get in for free?
