Attendances

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Are you familiar with how they count attendances at Pairc Ui Rinn? Are you certain that they have no control over the computer system that counts it? I'd imagine they are able to turn it off for individual stiles (or not turn it on at all) if they pleased, especially if it would lead to an inaccurate figure, which u-16's do. You're talking about things that you clearly haven't seen in a long time, not every stadium operates to the same level as croker i'm afraid.

there are some great attendences BUT the crowd in Armagh on Saturday night was very unusual,
the official attendence was 3,500 ( were U-16 counted i don't know, but the stand was fairly full , with a healthy attendance on the far side) BUT where was the Laois support, there was none, I mean none, has the relationship between the 2 counties have hit a real low or did the Laois support couldn't care. Was there no family/friends etc at the game. Some say maybe 50 Laois fans - that's a very generous amount.

Laois have a motorway the whole way to Newry , and then 15-20 mins on a decent road to Armagh. Mayo and Galway , Kerry and cork have brought a support to Armagh ( maybe small- but at least some came)
Donegal is further away, as road access /roads aren't great but they travel in decent numbers.

Did it matter, yes, as you like to have an opposition, for the atmosphere, when Laois scored the goal, you could hear the birds nest in the nearby Cathedrals!!!!

obviously not as I dont go to pairc ui rinn every week why would I?
but im sure every county is instructed to count attendaces the exact same way
otherwise you would have unfair scenarios for county boards
how does counting under 16s lead to an inaccurate figure?
you trying to say I only go to games in croke park?
maybe you should look at it another way
not all grounds are as backwards as pairc ui rinn appears to be by your commentary on it

Nice one (although slightly hypocritical). Forget it kid. Even in the face of overwhelming evidence and opinion your still sticking to your guns, very admirable, but it gets tiring to argue with after awhile.

Normally gets around 35,000 especially with a Dublin club participating. They are expecting half of Carlow up there aswell!!
5,572 was the attendance at the Armagh game last night

22,697 in Croke Park last night for Dublin v Mayo. Fairly good considering it was clashing with the Leinster game. I expect good attendances in the hurling today aswell. The only disappointment is the Cork game being played in Thurles. If it was played in Cork with the Tyrone game it would have brought out a big crowd 15,000-20,000. Missed oppurtunity

GAA could have had 30.000 + had they marketed last night properly. They are too complacent.

Is it not Dublin County board's responsibility to promote their big games? Dubs are always saying they should have theirs promoted but why not other counties too?

Anyway, what were the other attendances around the country. 3,600 people paid into see Meath v Down. OK considering it was on TV and that doesn't include the many kids but it was down on the Armagh match at home which wasn't great to see.

I don't know if Leinster affected Dublin's attendance. They've had roughly 20k per match at home and I'd say the good mayo support made up the extra 1 or 2 thousand. That's Dublin's core support but as other posters say if they promoted the match they'd of gotten another 10-15k and it's a shame considering how good the match was.

6,600 at the Cork v Tipp Quarter final, that's very poor. Tipp's hurling support has really fallen away. Even in the immediate aftermath of winning the AI in 2010 there was no real increase in their support. I remember the huge crowds that followed them in the early 90's. As Luke said, such a pity that game wasn't played in Cork, Pairc Ui Rinn would have been full or near enough.
