Attendances

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I would be with Hill on this.
Attendances should include All attendees, free underage or not.
Should be easy enough to keep track of the FOC entrants at this day and age, with all the ticketing that now goes on.

If for no other reason, there would be a H&S issue by not counting all supporters in attendance.

Hill, if you were in Parnell then you know that the place was full. The stand was full a good while before throw in, the back of the Church goal was full, as was the terrace on the golf course side and the walls were were all lined. So where the other several thousand were going to fit is anyone's guess! There were a lot of people using season tickets and Parnell passes so perhaps they were not counted. Also saw them letting juvenile groups in through gates.

Hurlingdub, I just had to show my Parnell Pass to gain entry.
No scanning of it took place at all.

And yes, the Neller was pretty full alright. A lot more than the stated attendance were there.

I think all supporters should be accounted for though.

Well there is a safety aspect. Do they just keep letting people in until everyone is jammed like sardines? If all Parnell and season ticket holders turned up on the one day, that would be enough to fill the place alone.

Exactly Hurlingdub.
They need to scan All passes and tickets, and need to count all free entrants.
It is a recipe for disaster otherwise.

im not saying they got it right just saying what they stated as attendance.
I wasn't there on sunday as had a family occasion at same time so I cannot voice an opinion from only what I saw on tv.
as we all know you only see what a camera wants you too see in that case.

Croke Park is the only place i'd believe the official attendance...everywhere else its normally 60/70% of the amount of huans present.....in the league of Ireland they do be trying to inflate the attendance figures but in GAA we seem to want to make the official attendance as low as one can get away with...has to be some sort of scam going on with the attendences given out at games.
Cracking match tonight cork were a breath of fresh air...shame there wasn't 50 from Cork at it?

The massive Cork following got them over the line in the end.

haha the owl boy in the sambrero fair play to him he seems to be the only cork supporter there last night.
on the attendance it was hard to see the differance from the crowd v kerry to the game last night
seen as the exact same areas of the ground were occupied even the same sections
and if anything the hill was more packed then the kerry match
yet 7 thousand less according to what they gave out
thats a quarter of the crowd less from the first night
you would imagine you would have to notice a differance

Ya I remember being at a Munster Final in 2005 , and they said 44k at it, 88k would have been closer to the mark.

You were obviously joking as well when you claimed that the Dubs had 50% of the crowd at the All Ireland hurling semi :-). It would take more than a league match in early March for any Corkman to leave this most beautiful of counties to visit Dublin and unless we make it to a league football final I won't set a foot there myself until the August weekend. Now a league game in Castlebar or Tralee is a different story.

Hurlingdub you were not far off with your 20 Cork fans. :o)
Not many Leesiders there last night at all.
But less than 20,000 in Croker was poor enough considering the Inter Pro Hurling Final was also being played.
There seems to be little promotion of either the Inter Pro's or League though.
I think a lot more could be done.
Maybe switching back to Sunday Dublin League games would help.

The problem for Dublin is the frequency of games at Croker. Also a lot of people are actually involved in juvenile sports now. Its a big ask to be mentoring maybe twice/three times a weekend this time of year. Then heading off to Croke Park to get your butt frozen off watching a glorified exhibition match and paying top whack for it to. I shamelessly enjoyed the Dublin v Cork game, in front of the fire, with my beer and chinese, after two juvenile games earlier.

Couple of things lads I think every Dublin game is live on the tv maybe they should not show the home games live then a much bigger crowd will turn up in croker as 20 thousand is a good number but not when the stadium holds 80 thousand. Should they just play there home matches back in Parnell park as a full house would be a great atmosphere.

It was like that for the Donegal V Monaghan game yesterday. There was no money taken on turnstiles, you had to get a ticket form the ticket office & schoolchildren, who got in free, got their own tickets printed off.
