Attendances

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

munster council were expecting a full house in pairc ui chaoimh
as they had to employ 70 of the security staff that does hill16 security and brought them down on a bus yesterday morning
to pairc ui chaoimh as health and safety insisted on it to allow the ground capacity to rise to 35 thousand

I doubt they were expecting a full house. There wouldn't have been anything close to a full house in Pairc Ui Caoimh for years and last week the CCB admitted tickets were selling very slowly. I'd say they were happy to break the 20k mark.

Unless it was familiarisation with the place for next week when the place will no doubt be thronged but the dogs on the street down here knew this was going to be the smallest crowd in a long time as did the County board.

Munster attendances are dire. What was the championships total attendance? I'd say between 30-40k. Two Ulster matches and a Leinster Quarter final would better that. The only championship of real greatness left is Ulster lets be honest. The rest are all two or one horse races.

Will the Ulster final sell out?

If that Ulster Final doesn't sell out or come very close to it I'll be very surprised. Its got everything - a grudge match after last year's final and they also met in the League Final, both teams are going very well, its on in Monaghan and the Donegal supporters will travel in big numbers.

jack goff in fairness ulstr has the same final as last year also
id say about 30-32 thousand for it.
frontline security that does hill16 security was the reason the capacity has been bumped up another 4500 for sundays
munster final in cork

hill i'm talking about the munster football championship. add up the attendances from all it's games and it's paltry.

The final this year will be interesting. Last year Donegal outnumber Monaghan about 3 to 1 at the final but Monaghan support this year will be a lot higher and has been in their games so far. Donegal's should be down a little on their big support last year but still I wouldn't be surprised to see it go over the 35k mark.

The new 38k casement is really the perfect size for Ulster as most years the final will come up just short of that.

As for the Leinster final I hope Meath supporters come out in bigger numbers compared to last year despite nobody really believing we will win.
Would be nice to see the match break the 60k match which years ago would have happened with ease. What you reckon hill? 55k-65k?

i know i was responding to the point you were trying to make about ulster being the only province.
in fairness though to munster its the same every year so hardly surprising
the final this year was low considering was last munster final in pairc ui chaoimh for cork v kerry.
clones only holds 35 thousand so thats what i ment when i said 30-32 thousand id reckon for it this year.
yeah meath fans were low last year but in fairness the media made it out to be a coronation to dublin not a match
so hardly going to get them to go, doubt this year the media will dress it like that
meath support looked to have improved against kildare and a lot of meath people seem a lot more confident in their side this
year so would expect them to turn out in bigger numbers.
the upper cusack is on sale already so at the moment id say around the 65 thousand but very early yet to know

37k sell out in Cork today but expected considering demand outweighed capacity. I think everyone will be glad to see the back of the stadium at this stage. Cork are very lucky to have the funds and political power to have it re built.

6,500 at Down v Kildare

How many at Mayo v Galway and Armagh v Tyrone?

Jack i would not mind if Cork had the money to build the pitch themselves but the amount of national gaa money and taxpayers money been pumped in is ridiculous there is no need for a 45k stadium in Cork, looking at the terrible crowd at the football final the only time a 25k crowd will be in the new puc will be the very rare time there is a Munster hurling final in Cork. A 25k stadium would have made far more sense. Given its location it is not suitable for neutral matches. There was a big crowd in Castlebar today.

Announcer said 26,500 or thereabouts in Castebar. He got it wrong though. 30,000 there easily

Heard the attendance for the Connacht final was 26,738, not sure that's correct. Was away, but from what I heard close to a full house and Mc Hale park holds around 40,000 since it's redevelopment I'm lead to believe.

MacHale Park holds 38,000. Not much free space there yesterday. The stand alone holds 10,000 - was more than 16,000 in the rest of the stadium.

Why would they knock down a 36k stadium the came up about 14k short this weekend of demand for tickets and build a 25k one at a big cost? They'd just leave it the way it is. Your idea is daft.

Anyway they deserve the 30m from the government. Dublin got over 700M between Croke Park, Aviva and tallaght stadium. Cork deserves funding and it's tiny by comparison. Cork GAA members pay their taxes and given the amount of them plus non member supporters the 30M is not much when you break it down.

10,819 at Tyrone vs Armagh, fans really seem to have lost interest in this rivalry. It's not so long ago there wasn't a venue in ulster big enough to accommodate them.

I don't know what Castlebar holds but on TV there looked to be a lot of spaces in the main stand so wouldn't be surprised if that was under 30k.

Luke, which game were you referring to in Ennis?
