Kildare players won't play for Leinster

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Surely we are overlooking the desires and wishes of the players here. I have often heard how much players get out of representing their province. After all its not as if they get monetary reward for slogging their guts out week in week out for us fans to dictate who they should play for.
They are fully entitled to be selected to represent their province and play along side their peers especially if given the chance to win something.

Clondalkindub the keeper of GAA ethos! Defender of the faith! Where will he strike next?

I'm awaiting threads on Mayo and the FBD league, the Galway player selling his Leinster medal and of course the long-awaited Tom Kelly's controversial transfer to Round Towers 10 years ago.

Or will it just be when Kildare are involved...

You are wrong as usual moomoo....poor research.....Dublin won the Walsh Cup last weekend as only a "true Dual County" indeed can!!!!!.......but of course you would have had your eyes and ears covered due to the Kerry performances to notice those other results!!

Touché!!!!!

Ever poorer by you as Kildare won the Kehoe Cup at the weekend. So Kildare have won 2 Cups (1 in football & 1 in Hurling) so far this year and Dublin have 1, 2 it a bigger number then 1. So in fact it is you thats wrong as ever. Also you cant really be pointing out others spelling mistakes as you have been making plenty yourself, but like ever when thats shown to you you run off and hide

Kildare won the Kehoe Cup on Sunday, so obviously we must be a "true Dual County" (whatever one of them is) too.

So that's two provincial cups so far this year, one in each code, not bad going at all.

I would love to see the reaction on here if Dublin players refused to play for Leinster. Club fixtures can easily be moved around in Kildare so it's no clashing.

Can they?

Considering the number of teams meant to be playing on Saturday, with the minor competitions on on Sunday it's going to be a busy weekend in the county.

And then with the league back in a few weeks, and the hurling league starting up, along with the underage provincial competitions starting soon I'd say it might be tricky enough to move a complete weekend of fixtures around just to accommodate a handful of Kildare players who might feature for Leinster in a competition very few will pay any interest in.

I'd actually go so far as to say that most of the posters giving out about this wouldn't have known the interpros were on this weekend were it not for this story.

The interprovincials are a pointless waste time, I wouldn't watch them if they were being played in my front garden, infact I'd probably make a complaint about them to the gardi.

So who are going to the Inter Pro games ?

And the October suggestion : Might be difficult as well since most counties play their County Finals in October, which normally involve most of the best players in every county.

I am not going, as on Sat I will attend the lacal club game and on Sunday will attend Ladies National League game.

Why should all the club players in Kildare be inconvenienced to accomodate two or three men who might make the Leinster team for an irrelevance of a competition?

yet i guarantee you if the rugby board decided to play an interprovincial competition the exact same its level of acceptance in the media would be huge and thus leading the sheep in this country to believe its a great competition

Course it would.

Sure aren't the provincial rugby teams already fully professional with some of the best players in the world lining out for them. That would definitely be a worthwhile competition.

The biggest advantage a rugby competition like the Railway Cup would have though is the fact that the provinces already have massive support basis.

If you ask a rugby fan from Galway, Cork, Down or Dublin what team they support they'll say Connacht, Munster, Ulster and Leinster.

Ask GAA fans from the same counties what team they support and they'll tell you the name of their county, they certainly won't name their province as the GAA team they follow.

and the best players in ireland would be playing for their province in gaa also so its bit of a lame arguement you make, quite simply it all comes down to media perception at the end of the day as the media promote the international rules and it pulls in the crowds and dont for one second tell me its a brilliant game to watch surely any right minded person would think that a railway cup final would be more attractive then the hybrid game so my point is if the media were to promote the game positvely you would see the crowds turn out but of course our so called media only promote things that feature highly in britian and america

Boys to be honest its a bit of a wasted opportunity that the Inter Provincials are not given a better chance and platform by the powers that be.
This series if promoted properly would be an excellent way to promote and advance both codes.
If you look back to its Hayday it was basically All Star teams from each province competing against each other.
I cant understand how it cant be given 4 weeks out of the year to play out a proper competition, say play it as a league every province plays each other once and top 2 play a final.
If it was marketed and promoted properly has the makings of being a great competition.
Look at the All star break in baseball or basketball in the USA , or the state of origin in rugby league in Oz.
Rugby and Soccer are pushing more and more into traditional Gaelic areas and I think with a high profile competition like this in the off season of inter county gives the GAA a chance to push back.

With all the grafting that KIldare footballers have put in for the past few years and nothing to show for it. I'm sure that the players would have welcomed rare sucess by representing Leinster

Lads I think your missing the point, forget about the importance of the competition and think for a minute , all of the other Leinster county players are willing to show up but Kildare feel there to big for such a competition. My god the arrogance of that county is unbelievable. How you all think what there doing is right il never know. And then people wonder why I hate Kildare

+1
