Agreed Clondalkin. They do not seem to be to high up on the ethos of the GAA. There is a seanfhocal as Gaeilge that says 'Fileann an feall ar an bhfeallaire'. It loosely translates as 'the foul catches up on the fouler'.

Thats because the int rules gets so much publicity. for the weeks leading up to it you cant escape it. Id much rather go the the inter pros and see the best players in the country playing gaelic football against each other, rather than going to a game to see the best players in the country risk serious injury in a game that means absolutley nothing.

Lads I think your missing the point, forget about the importance of the competition and think for a minute , all of the other Leinster county players are willing to show up but Kildare feel there to big for such a competition. My god the arrogance of that county is unbelievable. How you all think what there doing is right il never know. And then people wonder why I hate Kildare

Is that the reason they gave ? Or your own humble opinion ?

The GAA should be grateful that Kildare have inadvertently generated more publicity for this year's Railway Cup than they ever could on their own!

As for being "above the tournament," even if this is the case, is it not good that players from counties who do not receive as much media exposure as their Kildare counterparts will get their moment in the sun?

It is a pointless competition. Gavin was complaining as well about the number of game, including the Railway Cup, that players are engaged in during the league 'break.' It is hardly even an outlet for players from 'weaker' as all the managers try and put out their strongest team. How many Mayo hurlers play for Connacht? You might get the token corner forward or sub. That's it.

Some seriously exaggerated moral outrage here.

Kildare have shown the O'Byrne Cup and league competitions some serious respect by naming strong sides since the start of the year while others have made a mockery of them naming weakened sides and training through the weeks before them. The result of that is we have played 3 games outside the county in the last three weekends (one which went to extra time) and seven since the start of the year. And now those players are expected to travel again? Madness for a competition that will be attended by less people than an average club fxture.

With or without Kildare Ulster will win it......we always do. We are the only province that takes this old competition seriously. The rest of 'Ireland' sold it's 'Irish soul' a long. long time ago.

But thats the timing as much as anything that he's complaining about.

Whats wrong with October for it?

Kildare dont feel they are "too big" for the competition head .. They just know its an absolute pile of tripe and nobody cares about it. Will you be going to these Leinster games ? Leave Leinster , Munster etc to the Rugby. Kildare players are putting their county ahead of their provence. Fair play to them. I'm raging the Dublin players are taking part. Imagine someone got a serious injury in this meaningless game meaning they would miss the league and championship .. Someone like Bernard Brogan for example... Its a chronic competition... Should be done away with.. I have the utmost respect for Kildare players and only wish ours would do the same.

If it was Bernard Brogan or any Dublin lads pulling out would you been setting up a thread saying all this nonsense ? Or If Bernard gets injured will you be happy he took part in this game ? I just think its winding you up because as you already admitted you have an awful dislike of all things Kildare mate.. Personally i'd only be too happy to se our players take that stance.. Sooner the better this nonsense competition dies away.. Its like a disease at the minute ... its dying a long painful death

I don't see how we think we are above the competition or are being arrogant if lads don't want to play two games in two days.

I'd also guess that there's going to be at least one collective training session for the Leinster team which would either be on the Friday evening or Saturday, and unless it's on late on the Saturday evening players aren't going to be able to be in two places at once.

If players from other counties aren't involved with their clubs this weekend then fair enough let them play for Leinster, or even if they are involved with their clubs and don't mind putting their body through so much in such a short space of time as to risk injury then let them at it.

I doubt many players from Maynooth, Monasterevan or the Sarsfield reserve team would have made the Leinster panel anyways (no offence to anybody from those clubs).

But of course lets all ignore the fact that there's a full round of fixtures on in Kildare this weekend and just have a pop at them instead for not being available...

Shocking comments to call one of the GAA's oldest, historical competitions a 'disease'and vindicates everything I said. There appears to be NO place for traditions or history in cold, modern day, revisionist Ireland and everyone is looking out for the individual or collective individual; its all about 'me, my county, my convenience'. The FA Cup is seen by many in England as inconvenient but you try and suggest scrapping it and the whirlwind would follow. It's more of timing with the Railway Cups which could maybe be played at Croker on a weekend alongside the clubs finals. I think those are disgraceful comments wayno.

In fairness theres club games on in counties all over the country.

But I blame the GAA themselves for putting the inter pro's on at this time of the year. Why not October when the calender is less congested?

Whatever, I stand by them i think it is a woeful competition that noone has an interest in.. I will be disgusted If Bernard Brogan , Paul Flynn , Stephen Cluxton or Rory O Carroll pick up any kind of injury in these meaningless games as that could effect Dublin's league/Championship campaign.

Because Jinxie , that would be common sense, And we all know that common sense doesn't prevail when it comes to the GAA
