Only two are worth talking about. Beautiful meath and while not entirely for football, the town I loved so well

Our efforts are usually quantity over quality. We had more songs out for last year's all Ireland semi final than most counties do for the final.

An old one but a great song about the legend Christy Ring. Many more song about Ring but think this is one of the best

Come gather round me boys tonight and raise your glasses high,
Come Rockies, Barrs and Rovers stars, let welcome hit the sky,
Let bonfires blaze in heroes praise, let Shannon echoes fling,
For homeward bound with hurling crown comes gallant Christy Ring.

So all you hurlers from the Nore, you lads from Corrib's side,
From Garryowen gay and bold with Tipp's own men beside,
You may have hurlers straight and tall who can a caman swing
But whose the name can play the game with Cork's own Christy Ring.

When we were young we read in school in the days of old,
The young Setanta showed his worth with shield and spear of gold,
As hurling hard on royal sward he'd hurling heroes fling,
My soul today, he'd yield the sway if he met Christy Ring.

A heal to faithful Wexford boys, to the Rackards and their team,
Should Cork surrender Ireland's crown may victory on them gleam,
John Kelly's name we hold in fame - of '98 we sing,
But Slaney's plan must find a man to equal Christy Ring.

How oft I've watched him from the Hill move here and there in grace,
In Cork, Killarney, Thurles town or by the Shannon's race,
"Now Cork is bet; the hay is saved!" the thousands wildly sing-
They speak too soon, my sweet garsun, for here comes Christy Ring.

When age has gained this warior brave, when ended is the fight,
And o'er the hearth he hangs at last his stick and trophies bright,
Come counties all both great and small who boast a hurling King,
Can one tonight hold candlelight to Cork's own Christy Ring?.

One part of bobby rackards song stands out now
"I see you still, like blackstairs hill
You stood in front of goal"
"when ring and co came rushing through
Like torrents from the lee
With cap pulled low you stole the show
Your courage was the key"

Found a man to equal him that day

More a poem than a song, but one I always thought encapsulated our football tradition. Fittingly recited at the graveside of our Ard Ri Paidi in December 2012.

'The Blind Man at Croke Park' by Liam Macgabhann

'Listen, asthore, for these eyes are sealed,
Listen once more, when Kerrymen take the field,
Tell an old man who saw them in days of old,
Do they walk proudly in their green and gold?

Listen, asthore, when Kerry take the field,
Tell me when they attack and when they yield;
Say if they fail; asthore, I'm blind and old,
Tell me they'll not dishonour the green and gold.'

They certainly did that day and what a family of hurlers the Rackards were. Bobby was one of the Wexford lads to carry Ring off the field that day in 56.

Dancing at the Crossroads is a class tune and is the only good actual GAA song, end of story. Ye can't just name loads of songs and call then GAA songs!

Dancing at the crossroads is a belter alright

In fairness wexford have loads of gaa specific songs

Dancing at the crossroads 96
" " 97
Purple and gold
Song for nicky rackard
Bobby rackard from killane
Purple and gold
The ballad of Mattie Ford
Cuchulains son

Song for Nicky rackard verse
"on Sunday may the 6th in old croker park
6 goals behind made things look very dark
Nicky and the boys went up there to win
No power in Munster could make them give in

The boys fought like tigers in the second half
The Tipperary followers continued to laugh
But soon they knew what was on the cards
When points flew in from over 90 yards."

Ben10

He was indeed. A beautiful moment in hurling history.

"14 on, 14 was off" still gets an airing after Dubs matches. Does anyone remember the 'Offaly Rover'? I think they had to get someone to write it especially for the Offaly teams when they started coming good as possibly uniquely in the whole country they could not find a ballad associated with the county!

Hurlingdub its the same in Louth. There is no song connected to the county.
