Very good defences :)

1893 all Ireland football final Wexford 1-1 Cork 0-1 I wonder what the ball was made from in those days?

Patrique: Antrim County final in the early 90s. St Gall's 0-5 Cargin 0-4.

We were robbed that year too!

Not robbed, you were beat before the throw in, and this game wasn't even at Casement.

When you posted about the St Paul's "riot" I replied but it was not published. I did say and still do that for years Cargin had the best team in Antrim, but before finals they would convince themselves that they were going to be robbed by Belfast men in the final at Casement, and proceeded to under perform and lose. It was a psychological thing. Rossa in 1989? Rossa had two footballers, Cargin were a far superior team, Rossa won, easily. As I said in your heads. Eddie Quinn, O'Neill, Doyle as a youngster, Sheeny, right up to the fine players of today such as Mccann's and Crozier, gave me much enjoyment. But threw it all away convincing themselves that they would be cheated at Casement.

But that day at Casement against St Paul's, as a neutral, I put the blame fully on Cargin triumphalism at finally doing it.

222816 Last week in a u21 football match Gortnahoe beat Boherlahan 7-14 to no score. The score was put down 4-12 to 2-4 in the paper to save embarassment.
There has probably been a few like this over the years around the country where the correct score wasn't recorded

Ah!
Reminds me of the 2007 Minor B football championship game between the same sides which finished- Gortnahoe Glengoole 7-11 Boherlahan Dualla 0-3 in Boherlahan.

I'm not 100% sure of this but i was told about a scoreless draw in a junior hurling match in Gorey some years ago. I thnk it was between ballyfad and liam mellowes. Maybe someone from that area could clarify ??

Well Patrique, l'm hopeful that this year we can do it, St Galls are obviously the biggest title contenders but Anyone from Lamh Dearg, St Brigids, Portglenone, Creggan or even St Pauls could spring an upset.

I have to say that those couple of years in the wilderness did us no favours and st galls went on to do great things - fair play to them though for getting through to the AI club final i was very disappointed they lost that year.

I wonder why your original response was not posted - maybe the hoganstand moderators also beleive it was st pauls fault!

Yes but they were three of the finest points you'll see.

In 1975 Cushendall beat their neighbours Cushendun by 0.01 to 0.00 in a senior reserve hurling match. There was a storm blowing, conditions were atrocious.

The winning point was scored from a 65 by Sean McNaughton who was introduced as a sub, having just returned from playing with the Antrim minor team.

i've just been told that the game was junior league match in 1975 in Coolgraney. No referee turned up so a local fellow stood in. Because of the delay, the teams agreed to play 20 mins each way. Dont know about the standard of hurling but it did finish scoreless !!!!!

What are the chances that Galway & Monaghan will finish as a scoreless draw in Salthill in 2 weeks time?
If I was a Kerryman I'd be worried [and disappointed with my lot in life ;-) but thats not relevant to the matter at hand]

I laugh when people post such as above, and people come on saying "oh such and such a junior semi final in such and such county was 0-03 to 0-01 etc..we all have those matches in some guise or other..I think the poster may have intended inter county games...I actually bemoan the games of yesteryear when, for example of a scoreline of a NFL quarter final result would have been Dublin 1-12 Longford 1-06 for example...nowadays its 0-25 to 0-11 etc..if you google the NFL of early to mid 1980's you will see some low scoring games in all divisions 1-4 of NFL...its cricket scores now nearly, so much so RTE edit out the free's etc..God be with the days when you would sit down of a Sunday night to watch Sportscene on RTE and every score in NFL or NHL would be put up as Waterford would get a rare win over Kilkenny in NHL in rain sodden Walsh Park is one game I remember from the 1980's..a low scoring final I remember in hurling was Offaly winning the NHL in 1991, they beat Tipp I think 1-07 to 0-07 in the semifinal and beat Wexford 2-06 to 0-10 in the final..there are more games out there with probably abit lower scoring...lets have them..intercounty please..

Loughmore Castleiney won Munster club final against Tulla 1-06 to 0-07 few years ago.
I think Birr v Dunloy finished 0-08 each in an all Ireland final one time.

A fella from longford few years ago was telling me they hold some record for low scoring and not conceding much either in a single season of league hurling around the early 90s.
From what I can remember he told me they were in a few games that ended like 3-05 to 1-03 , 1-06 to 0-07 and 1-04 to 1-08. However when compared to the rest of the results in that years league all other games where longford were not playing had some high scoring averages.
Maybe any longford hurling fans can clarify this fact!!

I have a vague memory as a kid of being at a Connacht championship game in the early 1970's where the final score was Galway 1-7 Mayo 0-7. And I think Tony Morley was playing for Mayo. Can't remember another thing about it but it is amazing that of all things that could stick in my mind those are the 2 things that do!

I've just done an internet search and haven't found any record of a Tony Morley playing for Mayo in the 1970's but apparently a man by that name played for Mayo in the 1990's. I wonder is it his dad I saw playing in the 1970's ......or is my memory playing tricks on me? Perhaps some Mayo posters may know the answer.
