Am I missing something here is the most obvious and the most recent not rossy15 (Roscommon) - Posts: 619 - 31/08/2016 21:32:01 1908870 Link 0 |
Correct: Mayo were originally All-Ieland champions that year, but Galway were awarded it following an objection and replayed Connacht final after the event. Very iffy.

Dave Power played in the losing 1910 All Ireland Final, His son Jackie won All Ireland Hurling Medals in 36 and 40, in turn Ger Power his son won eight All Ireland football medals and Stephen McNamara from the next generation won an All Ireland medal with Clare so one from each of four generations won or at least played in All Ireland finals and with three different counties.

Eamon Cregan won an All Ireland in 1973. I saw him, play over a 23 year period, in every position in the field, except corner back, the position in which his father Ned, from Monagay, won an All Ireland medal in the Jubilee year of 1934. i think we are talking about actual all-Ireland medal winners here. some of those you mention are not all-Ireland medal winners. there would only be a select few counties. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 01/09/2016 00:16:59 1908917 Link 0 |
You may not like it Gleebo, but the history books show Galway as the 1925 All-Ireland champions. And that decision wasn't as "iffy' as declaring Mayo were champions despite not having yet played in Connacht.

incorrect. Dean rock and james McCarthy, Bernard and Alan Brogan are all more recent, waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 01/09/2016 10:02:43 1908973 Link 0 |
Depends how u look at that I said most recent and most obvious ... Martin mc Hugh won it in 92 and mark in 2012 so their the most recent combo Obviously yes brogan and rock won medals since but it's longer ago that their fathers won them By most obvious I meant Martin is very well known due to his media work with Sunday game and BBC so better known country wide than brogan or to a lesser extent barney rock . Cavan are ruled out then!

On reflection my earlier post was a little smart alecky. Apologies to smcgoldrick. In a topic like this, the odds favour father and son AI winners from Kerry and Dublin in football, as they have won most football titles between them, but not all of them. Similarly with Kilkenny, Tipperary, and Cork in hurling. It's probably a small number overall. There are other counties where fathers and sons represented their own, or other counties, in different eras, without dual all Ireland success. The GAA is made up of all counties, not all of them have won national titles, but they keep competing. thelongridge (Offaly) - Posts: 1745 - 01/09/2016 19:23:31 1909279 Link 0 |
jackie powers daughter Sheila Power also won an ALL-Ireland medal whilst playing for the Kerry Ladies

20 years was the gap between father and son winning All Ireland medals The gap was longer between the Walshes the Kennellys Morans Brogans and MC Carthys So the MC Hugh's are the most recent. SamOnErrigal (Donegal) - Posts: 1427 - 01/09/2016 20:31:49 1909294 Link 0 |
Replying to rossy 15 - In all fairness no McHugh is as famous or as well known as Bernard Brogan. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 598 - 01/09/2016 20:53:51 1909300 Link 0 |
