You did think we were too good to lose to Antrim. You probably thought Kilkenny were too good to draw with Carlow too. I think you are missing the whole point of sport in general and why so many people watch it- nothing is absolutely impossible or certain. Every so often there are shocks. I know there shocks viking i just think they will be the results you urself said weeks ago u were more worried about the carlow game than the Kilkenny game i mean come on did you seriously think that or were u just messing coz we hammered Carlow as most people knew we would.

Obviously we were red hot favourites to hammer Carlow. Just as were in the 2 Westmeath games rhe last 2 years and the Antrim game this year. That's the whole point. Of all the top hurling counties we can perform comfortably the worst when playing tier 2 counties. And in a way its a situation that can be self continuing, because tier 2 counties will obviously target counties who can be inconsistent. Like us. So they will play harder, and usually give us a harder game than other they do other tier one counties, with the exception of Carlow, who might have beaten Kilkenny had that game gone on for another few minutes.

Congratulations to Offaly! A good final. Hard luck to Laois. Good intensity in the game. The McDonagh level benefitted this year from Offaly, Laois and Westmeath at a good level. Despite beating Westmeath, Kerry were a bit off it but going through transition. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8024 - 08/06/2024 17:24:41 2550195 Link 2 |
I feel bad for Carlow - time to expand Lein with two groups of 5 - incl Carlow, Offaly, Laois and two more.

Good final in fairness, neck and neck as predicted, think Laois will be kicking themselves tho with all their wides, even the few at the end could have brought it to a draw. Bigjoe1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 45 - 08/06/2024 20:11:23 2550220 Link 0 |

Great game on Saturday. Well done to Offaly and hard luck Laois. I agree both should have the opportunity to contest Leinster championship. I think a 10 team championship would lead to too many one sided fixtures and score difference would need to be scrapped to protect the weaker teams. 2 four team groups with top 2 progressing to semi finals and bottom teams play relegation final. The losing semifinalists play each other to progress to All Ireland series Maybe some reward for 3rd place teams after a playoff. The hurling structure is simple but very much affective, Kildare winning the Ring cup is a big step forward, to contest the final of the J Mc Donagh is not impossible for us so I believe we will be all revved up for it. The one concern I might have is the fear of it getting congested with games at a glance a few of them may be unnecessary. One other concern i have is should Offaly be threatened with relegated like Carlow did after the first year will there be a safety net put in place to stop it happening, I think there should. Congrads to Offaly, Commiseration's to Laois

Do I take it from your post you find the Mc D cup less than impressive. We are looking forward to it in '25. I believe it will be seriously competitive. We are confident we will contribute to it with promise.

Not at all. The McD Cup is very competitive. Getting a game against a genuine top tier opponent is an eye opener though. I enjoyed the visit of Wexford to Tralee two years ago despite the result. The covid championships prevented Kerry having more of those in 2020 and 2021.

Cork and Wexford march on as expected. Offaly and Laois can take the lessons learned. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8024 - 15/06/2024 22:00:04 2551730 Link 0 |
Offaly did well and lets be fair to Laois its a joke playing a top team 7 days after the heartache of losing a national final to your biggest rivals.Mcdonagh is a great competition and I think Offaly can go well in Leinster next year. Next year we have Carlow,Laois,Westmeath,Down,Kerry and Kildare all counties with more football than hurling but who are making massive efforts to improve our hurling but receive the same help from Croke Park as Kilkenny who ban football and the likes of Roscommon,Tyrone and Cavan who do nothing for hurling. jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1497 - 16/06/2024 07:59:07 2551768 Link 1 |
