Hurling bade farewell to two greats in recent weeks, and the game will be very much the poorer as a result. I first noticed Richie Hogan when he scored a last-minute equalising goal in the 2006 Under 21 final against Tipperary. He was still a minor at the time. He went on to turn in one top performance after another with the great KK senior team and scored many vital goals and points for his county. I think his most memorable display was the 2014 final against Tipperary and later he deservedly won player of the year. Seamus Callinan first came to notice in 2008 when he helped Tipp win the league. His game reached new heights under Eamon O'Shea's tutelage. His top displays were probably in the 2015 semi-final loss to Galway when he scored 3-9, and the 2016 final v Kilkenny when he shot 0-9 from play against the reigning All-Star full back. He finally got hurler of the year in 2019, when he achieved the remarkable feat of scoring a goal in all of Tipp's eight championship games. Both players have left us with so many great memories and I wish them well in their retirement from the game they both graced so well.

Pure studs. Broke my Galway Heart many times each. Best of luck to these two great men and two great hurlers in whatever they do next.
