Good tough manly man. Just watched it back! It will do both teams a power of good for the championship! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 1937 - 16/03/2024 22:15:08 2531557 Link 1 |
The sum of the parts are important. Do you think Limerick aren't aware of the teams that have a chance of stopping them? That's a big psychological victory. I'm a hurling fan. I'll comment on whatever game I like. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 2714 - 16/03/2024 23:20:06 2531570 Link 2 |
Yeah. It's disappointing to be honest. No use crying over it though. We have to get better.

Looking at both codes yesterday, Limerick and Dublin have much stronger panels and both teams are more advanced playing the possession game. If Galway were on par with Limerick at holding possession a win would have been the more likely outcome. However, a win with the extra man would have masked the fact that Galway need to improve tactically especially when it comes to distribution and possession. baire (Galway) - Posts: 1823 - 17/03/2024 09:11:19 2531600 Link 1 |
Martin Fogarty said a simple thing to me earlier this year on a terrible wet day in Callan. "Never underestimate the power of winning".

There were a couple of incidents in the first half that could have made a difference in a tight game. First one was a definite Tom Monaghan point that was waved wide and second was a 65 for Galway that was not given after the shemozzle near the sideline. That is 2 points that should have been awarded to Galway. Fine margins but they can make a big difference to the final score and who qualifies for a league semifinal. tommy k (Galway) - Posts: 3381 - 17/03/2024 12:13:56 2531632 Link 0 |
I didn't object to you commenting on games, so am unsure as to why you feel the need to state the obvious there for a finish.

100% correct

So your saying Galway were the better team yesterday but didn't win because we bottled it.

I was saying the same thing myself, should have kept our free man between "their" goalkeeper and "their " full back line...especially after that casey lad was taken off!

Is their a concern in Galway that indiscipline will catch them out later in the year? Shocs07 (Limerick) - Posts: 372 - 17/03/2024 14:26:49 2531672 Link 2 |
I wouldn't have thought so.

I wouldn't be quite as crass as using the term bottled it but essentially that is kind of what happened

That's not what happened at all imo. What I saw was a lightweight and threadbare enough Galway attack failing to get the requisite volume of scores to knock of a squad that has won 5 of the last 6 all-ireland titles. Galway found it hard to score in the second half, and did well to draw it actually, although referee Walsh helped us out a good bit all through imo.

Like Wexford "bottled it" against Cork at home yesterday and v Tipp in 2019 against 14 men in the AI semifinal? Oh I see now! lol

There were a couple of more things that could have swung the game in Galway's favour. Niland missed 3 scoreable frees that Cooney would probably have scored (on current form) and there was a last minute foul on Concannon by English in a scoreable position that wasn't given.

What about the two high challenges in second half on Casey and o Connor??I actually thought second one was far more dangerous, and if byrnes or donohue did it there would be an outcry..on the day Galway didn't use the extra man to any great affect ,I don't know was that down to management or players..possibly meet again later in year. There was a nasty dig by one of the LK forwards on a Galway player early in the game, a good few of the Galway hurlers were incensed by it but the ref decided not to issue a card. A yellow card at that stage may well have prevented the scuffle that lead to the sending off later. It was a pity as both teams tried to play hurling in very difficult conditions.

Of course Baire, you not see the fine dirty pull across Lynch which started the Fracas after which L'Brien was put off. And no yellow card either for the culprit.

No but there should be a concern about Limerick "indiscipline" if you know what I mean!
