Replying To CC2020: "I used have a very cut and dried approach to the issue of amateur players benefitting from inter county GAA participation. I was totally against it, even up to Gooch's testimonial.
Now in my mid 40s with arthritic knee pain from injuries picked up in too many club (in particular), college and county games I look on things differently! If you can make a few bob and you're giving something back, why not.
Good luck to Dean. GAA pedigree is unquestioned. Wasn't his late grand uncle a key stewart in Croke Park?" He threw the ball in at start of games, except when the odd bishop shouldered him of the ball.

Dean Rock is a sound lad and fair play to him if he can make a bit of money out considering the years he's dedicated to doing what he does. Good luck to Dean Rock or any player for doing something like this.

Deano is probably making about 20 euro a session, the rest is to cover the overheads of buying GPS's to be thrown at participants during free taking to create that unique Dean Rock free taking experience.
Cormac Costello i believe will be running workshops, on how to play while under pressure while being doused by backroom staff with a water bottles.

A couple of observations :
1/ He is being very honest in setting up what he sees as a business adventure & very honest about the fees charged & in being so public about the fees any income would have to be declared. I admire his honesty in this regard, which is in direct contrast to the thousands of club & county managers/coaches who have received massive fees over the decades, on a continuous basis in many cases, these were paid under the table & never declared to Revenue. Those managers have been a blight on the GAA & caused massive divison in clubs in particular. That figure lost to the State in under the counter payments over the decades, would go into the millions. The reason this has never been investigated properly is because some of the people involved earning some of the largest sums, were representatives at the highest echelons in Irish society. Some day they will be outed.
For that reason I hope Dean Rock succeeds (even though I am pro amateur status) as unlike all the others he has been upfront & honest, a rarity in modern GAA.
2/ Technically under rule it is against the amateur status of the GAA & is just another step towards full blown professionalism. But who can blame him as at all levels of the GAA everybody is out to make something out of it, from managers, to back room staff, to media etc, however the success of the GAA has been volunteering at all levels & people look at every little bit of erosion of it from within the GAA as being a reason why they should opt out or questioning why they should be giving their time for nothing when everybody else is on the make. The massive slide towards everybody gaining from the Association, led by the very people employed at the top who are supposed to uphold the amateur status, only ensures that it is only a matter of time before full blown professionalism & the negative affect that will have on volunteerism, happens.
3/ The attack by a high profile ex player on everybody who disagrees with this, only highlights the divison between ordinary members & those involved in the county set up. It's amazing how quickly some will pull on any county track suit top once they get the Dineros. Of course they wouldn't disclose their fees like Dean Rock did, cute hoors. As for the "begrudgers who are in bread" well says it all about the level of intelligence of those when they can't even spell, but hey some lads will jump on any bandwagon to make money & particular players from a certain county are notorious for drumming the long fingers. Labelling everybody who has a different point of view is only ensuring further division & entrenching people further as the GAA becomes a two tier Association.
4/ The 5 in a row Dublin team were an exceptional team on & off the field & the targeting of Dean Rock seems to have brought out the tribalism & hatred that is ingrained in GAA as people from various counties queue up to slate him & the Dubs, when in fact there have been numerous similar set ups by various other famous current & ex county players over the last couple of months & not a peep from those complaining now about Dean Rock. No doubt it will be used as sledging material against him this year, but when he didn't let objects being thrown at him bother him, I think he will manage the corner back shouting in his ear when he misses a free.

I have no problem with Dean Rock earning a few quid out of coaching. Sure the GAA is rife with coaches being paid at club level. At least Dean Rock actually knows what he is coaching unlike some others. Inter county players give up their whole life to play, why begrudge them a few quid?
