Current in football - Michael Murphy.

Replying To Stmunnsriver:  "went from wexford to nearly every dublin game and countless vincents games just to watch connelly, the club final v corafin ranks in my mind as the greatest display by any person on a gaa pitch"
Connolly never played a club final against Corofin. He played a semi final in Tullamore, which Corofin won and Liam Silke did a very good man-marking job on him that day.
I think you're referring to his performance against Castlebar. He was incredible that day. Playmaker in the first half with some outrageous passes. Then he took some incredible scores in the second half and finished with a big tally from play.

Crissy mckaigue had a great game on Connolly as well a few years ago where he kept him scoreless (I think) while scoring a few himself.

Yeah your right there, it was nearly as good as philly mac schooling the gooch while doing a bit of damage at the far end too.

In hurling I like Tony Kelly of current players. And John Mullane and Jimmy Barry Murphy of past hurlers.

In Football I always liked Andy Moran of Mayo of the current players. Bomber Liston of Kerry of past footballers.

True, of course Gooch was not long back from a broken knee and the wrong side of 30 at the time.

What the 2015 final had to do with me addressing another poster about Connolly I don't quite know.

Greg Blaney from Down, hard as nails but an excellent player. Peter Canavan who had balls of steel and great courage as well as immense talent. Larry Tompkins of Cork (Kildare) another superb player. Seamus Moynihan, Bernard Flynn, Liam Hayes.

Fenton and Clifford. Past .....Paul Galvin and Frank Mc Glynn. You could add many more in fairness. Personally I like many players from many different counties and as I thought about this many came back to me but I picked based on who would I like playing for Tyrone if possible and that's why I went for Fenton and Clifford and I picked Galvin and Mc Glynn as they were 2 great warriors and serious work horses for their teams.

In Football - Loved especially watching Galvin, Declan O'Sullivan, Conor McManus, Ryan McHugh, Mugsy and all time favourite was Gooch.

In Hurling I love watching Tony Kelly and I like the look of Rory O'Connor from wexford.

Brian Whelahan.......that Offaly team broke my heart on many occasions. they always looked like they were playing hurling to pass the time while waiting for a pint to settle. Effortless.

Gooch. Everything seemed simple. Never fumbled, simple passes but delivered perfectly every time, never looked to be sprinting but seemed to be quicker than everyone around him, looks small but could catch the high ball, left or rght over the bar....but never miles up in the air....just enough. No wasted effort. Economy in everything he did.

Used be Sean Cavanagh, but after his "punditry" debuts in the last couple of years I've gone off him completely.

Current - Michael Murphy, plenty of great current Dublin players but Murphy has often to drag his entire team across the line which makes him that bit more special. Also the cynicism of the current Dublin team leaves a bad taste, regardless of how individually great some of their players are.

A Kerry man talking about other teams cynicism, it's actually laughable, Billy Morgan got it spot on in the noughties with his comment about a certain team down south!
