Replying To LoyalRoyal66:  "Personally I think cups should be ravamped and an Fa cup format used. For example a complete open draw with every club in the county. However the lower graded team always gets home advantage. Would definitely draw huge crowds in the smaller junior clubs if they drew a top senior team. And in sure we'd always see a fairytale story with a junior club going on a big run, as we see with smaller clubs in the Fa Cup from the bottom divisions going on runs. Would be a lot more intriguing than the current strategy"
That's actually not a bad shout. While part of me likes the idea of playing the Cup first, I also get the impression from lots of players that it's seen purely as a "warm-up" competition. I can't see many sides taking it seriously this year, with it starting in January, It's a shame, cup runs can be a nice break away from league and championship.

Can anyone tell me, why on earth are some of the cup games fixed right in the middle of the Ireland v Wales game!!??
14-45 of a Saturday!!
Bad enough that lads are sacrificing nights out and what not ahead of playing, but now they are denied watching the 6 nations. Let alone any lad that might have to work on a Saturday to put bread on the table!!

no matter how the games are fixed some people will be giving out. That is the reality. The majority of lads who i have been talking to are delighted to have the games on Saturdays as it give them the opportunity to have a night out on the saturday with their mates. Its unfortunate that the Ireland game is on at the same time but cant please everyone. If they were fixed for Sunday at 12 people be giving out that its too close to the Meath game.

I'm a player and am delighted as many games as possible have been fixed for Fri nights and Sat afternoons. The less Sunday games the better.

As the year goes on the Saturday throw ins will get later as the evenings get brighter so less of an impact on lads working - in fairness there isn't much later the Sat games can be fixed for at the moment if clubs don't have lights

Lad, who cares about the rugby? The 6 nations is a second rate competition that the welsh and French only occasionally take seriously. England usually take it seriously and then there is Italy.

The rugby World Cup is where it's at and the goys always cack their pants at that every single time.

It should have no bearing on GAA fixtures in Meath whatsoever.

Personally like the Saturday afternoon games, dont see the issue, better then trying to play them on the Sunday morning before a Meath game. The rugby argument is a nonsense. Lads need to be playing games, most prefer to play them in daylight. think playing the cup competitions early in the year is the way to go, gives times chances to try new things without the pressure of the league.

Personally I would love the Feis Cup to return to what it was. All clubs involved and a straight knock out competition, may the best team win! Its has been ruined. Also, no need to play it in January whatsoever.

You obviously dont remember what the feis cup was like years ago!. There was always a junior team involved at the business end. It was a fantastic competition, just like the fa cup. Who wouldn't fancy a crack at a so called stronger club. The hype around these matches also brought great crowds and great support. Changing it to a pre season run out is wrong, ruined the competition completely.

There was never junior clubs in feis cup. The whole reason by intermediate cup was brought in was some of the intermediate clubs would not enter and if they did some gave walk overs.

The same system should be brought in for hurling Brendan Davis

Ahh now.... the talk of every club entering the feis cup is utter nonsense... St Marys Donore (No offence meant) travelling to Ratoath, give me a break, a complete waste of time, this year has worked with the cups playing them before the league, makes sense, leave them as they are

Completely agree. Soccer FA cup idea is complete nonsense. Teams getting trimmings and who would benefit from that . No one

this is pure nonsense. imagine a junior B team playing simonstown... they can barely beat their third team.

even in the brendan davis there are some one sided games with senior vs intermeidate teams.. but at least the intermediate teams play each other first, so only the strongest intermediate teams play senior teams.

As was mentioned before ye must be misremembering things as Junior teams never entered the Feis cup, it was Intermediate and Senior only. In 2012ish they introduced the Tailteann cup for junior teams.

On top of that, obviously playing senior clubs wasn't that much of a draw if intermediate clubs voted to leave the Feis cup and play Corn na Bóinne amongst themselves instead.

Talk of FA cup magic etc. is nonsense. The FA cup "magic" is (or was anyway) big clubs visiting smaller grounds and smaller teams. The thought of local heroes going toe to toe with world class superstars. Clubs dreamed of these big occasions where the journeymen and local sons are on the same field as the kings of their sport.

Are ye honestly telling me the people of Boardsmill dream of the visit of Summerhill in a 3rd rate competition?

In the early nineties Junior and Intermediate clubs amalgamated to give the best junior players a taste of playing against senior footballers. It wasn't Junior v Senior

Im not arguing it demeans it but jnr clubs would not stand chance v senior full stop.

Mark my words, if you brought Ratoath over to a packed Donore, they wouldn't beat the Marys easily. Atmosphere would be electric, massive crowds. Proper cup football

Gael Colmcille back in another Feis cup final. Made the once mighty O'Mahonys look like a junior side. Another cup on the way to North Meath .
