HS Readers' Football Team Of The Decade - Defenders

Replying To Lockjaw:  "Well obviously I'll have a certain bias but for me, Karl was that good in the period you mention, that he deserves his place on team of the decade. Others have come to that conclusion as well. But look, it's an opinion and it's why we participate on these pages. Mick Fitzsimons is a super player these past few years, but in the earlier part of the decade was he at that outstanding level? I don't think so. So you could flip your argument around re: Lacey."
Yeah Mick Fitz has gone up a level since the end of 2016 but before that he was in and out of the team.

Of those I left out, Colm Boyle would be the most unfortunate, followed by Cian O'Sullivan.

Karl Lacey would be on my team of the last 20 years, but his career was on the way down after 2012. Jonny Cooper gets in ahead of McMahon and Fitzsimmons because, well, Jim Gavin seemed to rate him more highly, and that's good enough for me.

I wouldn't have Jonny Cooper in the team. I think Jim Gavin has always had a soft spot for him which is fine because he's clearly a good player but maybe not at the levels, as a defender, that the likes of Fitzsimons and McMahan were able to get to.

McCarthy will get my vote for a midfield slot then as he simply can't be left out in my opinion.

Not a Dub chosen in the defence despite them winning 7 All irelands.
Mmmmm
You know your stuff alright down there..!
Even worse no Jack McCaffrey. lol

If ever there was a WUM on here - we now have Exhibit A

Higgins O Sullivan Boyle
Keegan McCarthy McCaffery

Very tough to just pick 6..Karl Lacey, 2 McGees, Dessie Mone and Drew Wylie, Paul Murphy, Peter Harte, Marc O Se list goes on..
Chris Barrett is very under rated for Mayo, also Brendan Harrison is too, the lads in the half back line seem to over shadow them but they are brilliant defenders and footballers

Ah now. I would've thought it was pretty obvious that was a WUP post.

Is there a rule that he has to pick a Dublin defender? Coz I didn't see that written anywhere.

My effort:
Higgins, McGee, McMahon
Keegan, McCarthy, McCaffrey

Lacey, O'Sullivan and Boyle are right up there with the above but you can only pick six

Higgins - incredible engine and great work rate.

Philly McMahon - Mick Fitz running him close but over the decade Philly has been a top notch man marker.

Karl Lacey - not his natural position but he's a class act with 4 all stars within the last decade or so.

Keegan - superb man marker, not afraid to dabble in the dark arts and one of the best flying wing backs in the game.

McCarthy - most composed half back of his generation. Physical, great fielder and can take a point.

McCaffery - he may have a head like Luke Kelly but he can run faster than Luke could spit out the words to Rocky Road to Dublin. An absolute pocket rocket. A force in defence and in attack.

Based on All-Star awards (2010 to 2019) the following 7 are ahead of all others (as far as I can tell):
Lee Keegan
Jack McCaffrey
Colm Boyle
Keith Higgins
Neil McGee
Cian O Sullivan
John McCarthy

While the Kerry poster who picked no Dub is surely having the craic I notice that one Dublin poster has picked 6 Dublin backs and another has picked 5 Dublin backs.
Let's all try and be a bit balanced here.
