amazing post furlong well done. i also think dublins problems of people not being able to afford housing in dublin will play into meath and kildares hands , dubs as well as people from down the country not wanting to live or cant afford to buy in dublin moving to trim, kells, dunshauglin etc getting kids involved with GAA.
also it really dosent matter if the parents and even kids are true blue hill 16 dubs because if the kids want to play gaa they have to play with the local club if there good enough they will be representing Meath or Kildare. beleive me i actually have begun to see this happen the child /teen is from mad dub fans but the kid is good gets a run on meath development teams gets all the gear, the parent start going to there matchs naturally, the next you see is the kid wearing his meath tracksuit around proudly as is natural as hes now "county " matierial. the kid still loves the dubs though in same way he loves man utd , but some bit of him begins to see though the charade, hes never lived a day in dublin in his life and hes now a county man with meath.
im sure he will still be happy to see dublin do well if and when hes not trying to lamp them out of it in a game. in exactly the same way bernard brogan likes to see his mothers native kerry or fathers native mayo do well just not when there playing dublin. im sure the same is true of MD McCauley with Donegal or Lowndes with Meath. and then years later if meath or kildare are in an all ireland final v dublin and you ask the kid now playing for meath /kildare parents who there cheering for, it will only be one answer ,and not the dubs. in just the same way as if you ask Bernard Brogans mother on saturday who shes up for in wont be kerry from that Listowel woman.
