Is Mark Kehoe overage.? I thought him very impressive when he came on for Tipp seniors against Wexford and Kilkenny. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2180 - 24/08/2019 21:50:04 2229049 Link 0 |
Overage by a few months Tipp will be hopeful the aftermath of this u20/senior double is better than the last KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3513 - 24/08/2019 21:54:11 2229054 Link 0 |

Yes, Kehoe would have been eligible for Under 21 if they hadn't changed the age limit. Ger Browne, Cian Darcy and Killian O'Dwyer of the extended senior panel were in the same boat. They all won minor All-Ireland medals in 2016 so this should have been their optimum year for under 21. But they haven't done too badly, have they?

That was a fancied Cork team and Tipp blew them away in the first 10 minutes. Glad we lost to Cork in the SF, really couldn't take two thrashings from Tipp in one week. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 25/08/2019 23:00:55 2229262 Link 1 |
The Tipp u20s were like Kilkenny a few years ago with Breenan, Power etc.....a couple of their goals they had a chance for the tap over point 30/40 yes from goal but they drove for the jugular......similar opportunities at other end and Cork were flicking over the bar with no hard running off the shoulder to create the goal chance.....that's good coaching as much as its talent and hard work I was amazed at how poor the technical skills of the KK minors were BDL in the minor final....didn't look like 'classic KK' hurlers at all....there was a myth allowed flourish for a while that KK teams were all muscle and no hurling, which was exactly that as all the great KK teams had fantastic stickmen for every Christy heffernan there was a Billy Fitzpatrick, for every john power there was a Charlie Carter etc but the balance seems to have been lost a bit PaudieSull1 (Down) - Posts: 738 - 26/08/2019 10:55:48 2229342 Link 1 |
I think the myth you're talking about is because of the physicality of the KK teams of the 80s whereas other teams like Galway and Cork seemed to be more finesse than physical.

There used to be a saying in the 1960s rhudson (Galway) - Posts: 1478 - 27/08/2019 21:38:30 2229948 Link 0 |
That's absolutely true.Tipp dominated Kilkenny for nearly 50 years(early 20s to late 60s) and the view was that Tipp were too strong and too physical fur Kilkenny's wristy stylish hurlers. Now Tipp have the silky forwards with lovely movement and people are saying that Kilkenny(this year's minors included) are one dimensional and not skilful enough.

To be fair Trump the Galway team if the 80s was pretty physical themselves ......the 1987 final in particular wasn't a day for shrinking violets......Hayes, Finnerty, Coleman, Malone, Keady, Lynskey, Linnane all were more than able to look after themselves as could Cooley for all his class .......I get your general point but there were plenty of hard men in that Galway side ......

Nobody in Cork will be buying that, this guy is a bluffer of the highest order.....some of the most talented underage teams Cork have had have passed through his hands and yet he has won f@ck all To blame club games is pathetic when the biggest issue was the way he had lined out and prepared the team.....like Tipp got four goals in 8 mins yet not one Cork player went down to try kill the play/break momentum , that is basic stuff that even club teams would do ( compare Cork naviety to Tipp the moment Cork goaled) .......Ring was schooled by Liam Cahill simple as that and whole of Ireland witnessed what most people in Cork already knew, that he isn't up to it and only got these gigs due to Frank ( he was Franks last appointment) ...... Cork were dead right to play their club games, it had no impact on the performance PaudieSull1 (Down) - Posts: 738 - 28/08/2019 09:09:35 2230011 Link 0 |
