never seen a player like Colm Cooper, an absolute magician on the pitch, I believe he is the greatest but I would love someone to come along and put my mind in doubt.. just a joy to watch someone play with so much class for so many years. The GAA G.O.A.T

The best of his generation no doubt, but I would have considered someone like Matt Connor a superior player overall.

Good player alright.

Yeah - probably an impossible question to answer.

As avonali said, the best of his generation. Only Sean Cavanagh came close IMO and both were very different players.

But Matt Connor was phenomenal as were Maurice Fitzgerald, Peter Canavan, Mikey Sheehy, Jack O'Shea, Martin O'Connell, and a few more.

I'm not old enough to remember any from further back but believe Kevin Heffernan was head and shoulders above anyone in his era.

I don't think anyone stands head and shoulders above the rest in the GAA.

The Gooch is certainly in the conversation as to the best I've seen play.

You have guys like Trevor Giles then, Padraig Joyce, Canavan, Sean Cavanagh, the O'Se's, Bernard Brogan, Cluxton all have had incredible careers.

You've players like Fenton, McCaffrey who are on course to be very highly regarded when they finish.

There are other talented players I'd have then below these guys. Declan Browne, Stephen O'Neill, Diarmuid Connelly. All incredibly gifted players but maybe don't have the level of achievements as the others.

Pat Spillane and Colm O'Rourke could play a bit too. Sean Cavanagh was definitely the best player I have seen, kicking points, leadership, midfield fetching, free-taking, defending he could do it all to a very high level. That's the end of bigging up Sunday Game pundits!

You're not from Antrim

This is good. Seven posts in, and still people are referring to players by their proper names rather than lauding "the Coopers", "the Joyces", "the Connollys" etc.

Keep it up guys....

I would have Peter Canavan slightly ahead of him tbh.Outstanding player no doubt about that

Difficult to compare players from different eras, players who play in different positions etc etc.

He was one of the best.

I think he is a Legend, an absolute legend. Do you think he is a legend too?

One of the best guest forwards of his generation.

A little over praised at times though.

Admin needs to start blocking and banning the IP addresses on multis users have on here, its as clear as day, its just providing divisive debate, trolling and spamming the message board at this stage.

I don't believe any player is in a world of his own. A lot of guys have particularly purple patches and Colm had a sustained period in the 2000s.

Peter Canavan 1994-96, for me, is still the greatest I've seen.

They'll just set up more accounts as they're blocked. Better off if we ignore them as they thrive on a reaction.

My late Uncle was in his 90s when he died recently and he pretty much seen them all play in person, from the 1940s through to the 00s. He was a former county player and not given to giving praise where it wasn't due. And he told me the greatest Kerry player he ever seen was Mick O'Connell. "À mighty man" , was his verdict. And the greatest Tyrone player I ever seen was Frank McGuigan. Sure, there are plenty of Tyrone boys who've won far more, but in terms of raw ability, Frank in the 1970s was the most complete Tyrone footballer I've ever seen. You'd go to a club match just to see McGuigan, and you hardly cared if your team lost.

Yerra a magician no doubt. The greatest do it on the biggest days. AI final 2015...Cooper the magician disappeared that day. Yes he was a great player, no doubt. GOAT? No chance.
