Focus. All that matters is the Five. All else is dross.

Gavin won't rest too many for this one I predict. He may start two or max three from the bench but that'll be the height of it and I'm sure the Dublin lads including Paddy Andrews will want some retribution (on the scoreboard) for what happened earlier in the year. Dublin by 5 for me. TrueBlue35 (Dublin) - Posts: 206 - 25/07/2019 10:23:06 2216157 Link 0 |
What money do we get from you free starters?

Its both interesting and tricky for the managers. IamDonegal (Donegal) - Posts: 134 - 25/07/2019 23:02:47 2216572 Link 0 |
Ha good point. I'd certainly not question those Tyrone AIs. They were hard fought for but you're probably mistaking a back door opportunity for a dead rubber S8s game where the Dubs are already in the semi before the game is played. The comparison is probably a bit apples and oranges.

Sure aren't we buying all that delicious Strathroy bainne of ye. I hope Jim rests 6 or 7 lads and we have a narrow defeat because I'd like to play Kerry in the semi-final with the team pissed off after losing. Looking forward to the trip, Omagh always buzzing on match days.

Tyrone to win. Debts to be paid. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 26/07/2019 06:19:08 2216612 Link 0 |
This is the most likely way Gavin will manage the rotation situation in my view also. Resting players in a wholesale manner could come back to bite so continuity and momentum are more important.

On what exactly are you basing that conclusion?

Sorry. NO it won't be 'diluted'. If we win the five in a row we will go down as the greatest team of all time. It's simple.

Did you make that up all on your own? Cavan man always talking about money. Well I never.

I'd say he'll start with his strongest 15. It's not Gavin's style to treat Championship matches as an opportunity to experiment. This Dublin team needs a good close match to get them battle hardened for subsequent games. I doubt we'll see Connolly or Brogan. If the Dubs establish a good lead then key players like O'Callaghan, Fenton, McCaffrey will be withdrawn. Perhaps Rory OC will come on later in the game. I also think this will be a very close game. Dubs by 2 or 3 I'd say.

Last year Gavin rested almost his whole side when he played Roscommon in the 'dead rubber' third game. He'll do similar again. Harte will make fewer changes as he doesn't have the same depth, but there's no way on earth he'll be going all out to win a meaningless game just 6 days before an AI semi-final. I'd expect Tyrone make 5-6 changes and rest some key players. Both managers know that they have only 2 important games left at the end of a long season. This isn't one of them. yes but Dublin played two tough games against Tyrone and Donegal. They shaded it against Tyrone. They were two good competitive games.I felt they played within themselves in our two Super 8 games this year. In fairness, Roscommon last year didn't represent the same kind of threat as Tyrone do every year. The Dubs could well be undercooked going into the semi finals unless they get a good competitive game.

Ive a funny feeling the Dubs are going to be up for this and no mistake after the league game this year. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 26/07/2019 11:24:34 2216700 Link 1 |
I wouldn't bet on that. They will officially go down as the greatest but questions regarding funding will always remain. Not sure why people are talking about 5 in a row anyway. With limited competition, constant home games and more funding than most teams put together there is no reason why they cant do 7 or more in a row. kevin03 (Tyrone) - Posts: 276 - 26/07/2019 12:49:18 2216737 Link 1 |
I hope for your sake Mickey Harte doesn't share that defeatist mentality.
